Hey, if someone messed with Star Wars, linked it to Aliens and 2001, repackaged, then renamed it something like Universe Space Battles and sold it in Japan, you'd laugh your ass off and know it was a joke too! Why support a bunch of hacks? Especially greedy ones that legally tie up international rights that make it harder for fans to get official untainted merchandise! As someone who is creative, always purchases Directors Cuts DVD's etc, I just CANNOT support RT! Even if it was the first Anime I ever saw. Actually... that was Gatchaman.

DYRL Minmay was MUCH more tolerable. I remember hating Minmei in RT as a kid. I recently rewatched the original Macross TV series and found myself forwarding through all the monotaneous Minmay scenes. In DYRL I loved the way she explained everything to Hikaru while floating in that room in the Macross. Eventually Hikaru did slap her to wake her up from selfishness, but I actually had sympathy for her. A girl stranded in a ship and was depended on to lift everyones spirits through her music. She was mobbed by the media, didn't have much of a private life, and did have feelings for Hikaru. She was more mature than the series character and I thought the development was done very well being that they had much less time to establish their relationship. Especially that it was a key element in the storyline.

DYRL all the way!!! I also love the way Kawamori and Mikimoto always refer back to DYRL for character/mecha designs. Yes, there is more character development in the series, but I cringe at some of the animation. I also like the way Minmay is already an established star and not as young and annoying like in the series. DYRL cuts to the "meat", leaves the BS out, and I don't have to deal with any bad RT flashbacks!

It's such a trip to think that DYRL is a movie within a movie. I ALWAYS liked DYRL better than the series. It is visually superior, and DYRL is always referred to for character/mecha designs, even by Kawamori/Mikimoto. I always refer back to it as fact. The series is long, drawn out, and boring in spots. Therefore I personally would consider these designs fact.

I think it's cool, such a nice variant. Yeah, I think the laser is for taking out ballistic missles at high altitudes. Ever seen the real deal? Yes, we do have a aircraft capable of this. Kawamori always does his homework!

I think these refrences were put here to make us think, not to insult or argue. I found them quite interesting. There are Biblical refrences in Star Wars and I don't see anyone complaining about that. I guess I'll keep my insults for HG!!!

Complete the journey... you might as well change the name to Kamjin. Besides, it sounds soooo much cooler!

Dude, Welcome to the REAL world of Macross. Congrats on surviving Robotech, etc. If you are looking for cheap copies at great prices, start looking for fansubs. You can download 'em for free. Just start looking around. I'm still looking myself. I just had someone burn me a disc of Mac Zero ep.4 at no charge. Try finding a local anime club near you etc. Yahoo clubs/groups or something. Oh, and by the way... DYRL is awesome! Once I saw that, I could never go back to the regular series. Better character designs/mecha inc. Try some of the bootleg sites with HK copies, they're cheap. Hell... why don't we ALL put our cash together, buy out HG, fire the entire company, and then call it Macross West so we can all let Yamato, etc. get licensing so we don't have to deal with this crap? Anybody know a white knight?!

If I remember correctly, in the TV series Valkyries have the BGV buttons to initialize transformation. In the DYRL designs, those buttons were eliminated. I have noticed in Zero that Roy initialized transformation through a series of upward positions on the throttle located on the left (Zero ep. 1) of the cockpit. Do the YF/VF's in Plus and DYRL transform the same way? Anyone know? And if so, how would you differentiate between the Gerwalk Mode with/without arms?
