i dunno, i mean, look how heavily the earth is guarded after the war. i am specifically referring to what we see in macross plus, which might be a bit excessive due to the war anniversary, but still, the earth is headquarters to humanity, which has seen what becomes of an unprotected planet, so i stay with my argument that the sdf-1 probably didn't get beam weapon upgrades. heck, is anyone sure if its reflex cannon remained operational at all? or did they just rebuild the booms?

I would assume that the "artillery systems" whether they are AA or traditional (well as traditional as you can get with OT) artillery, they are "computer operator" controlled. i.e. person sitting at a computer to "man the gun". so presumably in Macross Plus when the Sharon AI took over the Macross, it took over all computer consoles. Giving it uninhibited access to firing control. Also the Sharon AI had "entranced" the populous. like how she had the "guards" try to kill Myung when she escaped Sharons strangle hold. Its possible that Sharon had "control" over the firing control techs and was making them try to shoot down Isamu. Regardless of what type of 'artillery' the Macross had during Space War I. presumably they would have "upgraded" them 35 years later to particle/beam weapons. i don't think the macross would necesarilly be upgraded. it only got the two ARMDs and the rebuilt cannon because, well, they kinda got demolished by kamjin. look at the USS intrepid in NYC, its just a monument, just like the macross is representing human ingenuity and such, so i don't think that the macross got such a thorough overhaul in the weapons dept.

after the "Rain of Death," do we assume that the only survivors were those aboard the Macross? i think i remember reading about other grand cannons in the macross compendium, and considering Misa's "unique" ability to become the sole survivor of Alaska base's, were there any other survivors int he other grand cannons that were in production? also, weren't there survivors of humanity on the moon at Apollo base? also, concerning the mass cloning following the war, i assume it was regulated by the UN, but were people cloned to condition the earth? or were they specifically cloned for further colonization/military escalation? i wonder if it was unregulated and/or discontinued at a certain time. this is quite a large post with quite a few questions.... go to it, then.

k so we have 2 probs here: 1) this info isn't exactly valid 2) if it is, 400mm cannons aren't exactly anti aircraft material, possibly more of an anti-ship role, okay, definitely an anti-ship role. i don't see cannons doing much to zentraedi vessels, but whatever...

thanks anyways. i don't know if this is a reliable source, but i took a look at the Animeigo macross box cover for the whole set, and i noticed that it gives a list of the SDF-1's specs, particularly "dual 400mm howitzers x48." i guess the howitzers are what were firing on the yf-19, but i could be wrong. here's the pic: http://www.animeigo.com/images-jpg/macross/Macross-WRAP.jpg

i must confess that my favorite part of watching Macross Plus isn't Isamu saving his rape victim of a friend, but watching the Macross in beautiful new reanimation. you get a really good feel for what the fortress looked like in comparison to the red white n' blue one from '82. anyway, i'm sure you have noticed the part (now, its very brief) when isamu is going towards the macross' command tower, and we see these anti-artillery guns start firing on him. i realize that these weapons were controlled by sharon during the incident, but during space war one, were these simply computer/OT operated? or were they manned? also, is there a definite count on how many of those guns there were on the macross? theyre so cool, on their ball/socket joint like the ventral gun of a b-17. so please, if anyone knows it'd be much appreciated to share with me your extensive gun knowledge.

i have to argue that the ghost was under the control of sharon, someone who had a very unique effect on isamu, so i have to disagree with isamu being able to defeat the sharon/ghost x-9. max is the man. period.

The roll of each mecha in the Macross universe
dedalus001 replied to APU's topic in Movies and TV Series
Actually it s designed for ground combat. The GBP in GBP-1S most likely is "Ground Battroid Protector" (?) (Alternately "Grenade Box Protector" in Macross Hobby Handbook 1) http://www.anime.net/macross/mecha/united_.../vf1/index.html Officially the Armored Valkyrie is for ground combat. Read Macross Perfect Memory & This is Animation Special Macross Plus (OVA). i guess thats the "official" word, but we only really see the armored battroid used in defensive skirmishes in space- i think they are far more useful in space anyways, with a 360 degree sphere of attack with all those short ranged missiles. yum -
nevermind i misunderstood the post i think sorry.

i haven't seen the video, so i have to ask if it is narrated in japanese. i'm curious, because i study japanese and if you are saying "anno elintseeker" you shoud be aware that anno is the equivalent of saying "that" in english. so instead of thinking of a person's name, the person could just be saying "that elintseeker."

evil flying aircraft carriers from space?

thats actually an interesting concept that they followed up on in m7 with the Uraga carriers. but all this folding business-- i haven't seen any ship besides the sdf-1 in the series fold with a "sphere" taking outside elements with it. it seems that every other zent/varauta ship has an independent fold system. when fleets fold to a destination, they individually fold to a similar destination. so what the macross did was a mistake which i assume was corrected after the conclusion of SW1. fortunately, it was a lucky mistake, but i would probably agree with both theories presented: upon firing the reflex cannon, the macross caused something of a power overload resulting in a hardware compatibility problem. it makes more sense for both to cause the gravity generators flying off, and it makes up for the ship "over folding" -

writing "cristopher walken" on an awning of a building is one thing, but AIRCRAFT CARRIERS IN SPACE!?!??!?!??!???!?!??!?!??!??!? aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! its just hilarious seeing them drift here and there among oberths and ARMDS - its not a gag to those poor, oxygenless fools... -
i was watching Space Fold and i realized that among the Oberths and ARMDs, there were a few aircraft carriers drifting..... IN SPACE? i mean, i understand the Macross having to attatch the Dedalus and Prometheus after the fold, but whats up with this? im not crazy they are actually there. so someone, please explain.

is it worth it? i dont want to waste the hd space and dl time if it isnt... so is it?

i dont think its right to say that m7 drags the universe down with it. i mean, the macross universe is what it is, and whether you don't like basara singing along and wierd biker gangs and monsters, ( it bugged me but it grew on me too) i think that m7 is a great show. i don't think that m7 isn't "not serious" either. i mean, you have a colorful cast, but people still die in a harsh struggle to survive. its a bit cliche, but its a strong storyline with a bit of an edge from a japanese -western fixation. like when physica dies, you know he will from the beginning, but its still sad. and as far as mecha are concerned. i love the fact that b7 transforms - it does, as people have said, increase its range of fire, and its just awesome. and macross plus, in my opinion, is great with the animation and colorful characters, but it reminds me of top gun too much, and i felt that it tried too hard to please a large audience rather than those who enjoyed wathcing the sdf-1 in a bitter struggle to survive. if anything, the recurring theme in macross is to survive and to look to the future, but all i got from macross plus was a few friends in a fray that happened to save the UN thanks to a clever script. it delivered visually and with the story, but i never felt a true sense of purpose for the characters. maybe its because its an ova, but anyway, thats what i gotta say...

70,000 in a ship thats 1.2km x 300m x 600m?
dedalus001 replied to dedalus001's topic in Movies and TV Series
i thought that super packs were perfected/developed by the UN in the macross' absence and they were given during the resupply on earth. that would explain why the first time we see them is after it leaves when hikaru saves misa in goodbye girl. at least i think so. -

whoaaa. i didnt think it would take the leg sections up. i thought the engines would take more up. that is awesomely spectacular. thank you for the pic too. if you have any other cross sections of the sdf-1 they would be much appreciated. -

70,000 in a ship thats 1.2km x 300m x 600m?
dedalus001 replied to dedalus001's topic in Movies and TV Series
but most of the sdf-1's volume consists of machinery and overtechnology systems and such. it is 1200 meters in length from the front of its booms to the backmost part of the engines. if you think about it, all the systems running gravity, engines, and the main cannon take a hearty portion of this deep vessel. thats where i credit the artistic license. -

doesn't tha macross have its own factory onboard itself? i think i remember reading that somewhere.. but they did salvage a bit, i mean in longest birthday, we see pretty beaten up destroids taken back to base for salvaging. not to mention kakizaki's own valk. how they supplied parts for 350 fighter planes? who knows. back to thinking about numbers of people- im starting to wonder how many people died when briitai blew up the initial UN fleet. i mean, that was a few oberths and ARMDs. ouchies.
