  1. Actually Lynx, it is a 50 rd drum. So it is quite the game changer. I dont know how well it will work sideways in a raider but So far there has been no other information about the 50rd drum. I think Hasbro is keeping it quiet. So it doesnt screw over current Stampede sales. I know Im waiting for it to get a stampede.

  2. So i picked up the swarmfire the other day. It is a nifty blaster. Im getting about 50 feet with the ARs removed.

So I cracked open the swarmfire. Very easy. Just remove the yellow shells and then open the gray body.

The motor/piston system is encased in a off-white casing that is held with snaps and a couple screws. Dont forget to remove the turret. It is only held in with one screw.

Pop out the plunger tube. Careful cause there is a small spring. The turret has posts just like a Vulcan chain. just cut them out from the back.

Here is the plunger tube. I covered up that small hole with electrical tape.

The AR is an orange piece of plastic. In the plunger tube, there is also a white cross with a circle. It is what the spring pushes against to push the orange AR. I cut that out too. The end of the plunger tube is glued in. I used a knife to carefully separate the tube body from the end cap and break the glue seal. I put everything back together. I didnt even bother gluing the plunger tube cap on, it just nests into the tube.

Here is what the plunger and spring look like.

I have easily doubled the range. I estimate about 40-50 feet.

Here is a video of the swarmfire compared to my element and pistol splat. No where close haha. The Swarmfire has a NF spring inside it.

    spring dimensions

    Length at rest: 74.35mm

    Length at full compression: 11.4mm

    Diammeter: 22mm

Picture comparing NF spring (the longer one) to the Swarmfire spring (shorter one)

Here are some more detailed pictures of the entire Swarmfire.

Gearbox opened. the white disc can be simply pulled off to get access to plunger rod and spring.

    dsc03478gf.jpg

The plunger tube head has a foam seal that is pushed up against the turret. This little slot is where the spring goes.

    dsc03477xi.jpg

When putting the plunger tube back in do not put the spring in that slot. Put the tube back in first. Then from the outside insert the spring into this hole. It makes it much easier.

Here are some exploratory images that may give you an idea for possible mods. The turret is two parts. the "barrels" and the cogged ring that rotates the barrels. They are not glued together!!! Not even held together with screws. The barrels are screwed into a post in the gear box. That is what holds the cogged ring up against the gearbox. I used a stepped drill bit to clean the cogged ring's holes. However there is no longer any ledge to act as a dart stop. So putting in stock nerf darts has the possibility of going in too deep and possibly hitting the gear box as it rotates. Also if you look at the cogged ring, it has small rectangular slots above and below the holes. I think filling those slots will reduce a little dead space. The reason is the plunger head has two holes. Obviously so that when the turret rotates the plunger tube will line up with either the outer ring of darts or the inner ring of darts. So depending on which ring, one half of the plunger head is covered up, but that rectangular slot will allow some air to escape into that slot. It is such a small amount of space but just an idea.

In this picture you can see the white post poking out past the cogged ring. I am able to nest 9/16 inch petg into the cogged ring. However it is a loose fit. I suspect a 1mm clearance around the PETG. However it shows that this gun is ready for some simple upgrades.

Oh but only if you could rear load this fully automatic turreted nest of bees? Oh but you can. It is as if Nerf knows what we will do with this. With a minor snip here and there you could open up the shell even more for better access and ergonomics to rear load the turret. And from BOTH sides if you wanted to.

  3. Here's one of the newest Super Soaker blasters. It takes 20 pumps to fire one full burst of water with it.

Meh its nothing compared to my backpack equipped CPS 3200

    http://images.sscentral.org/gallery/stock/cps3200_00.jpg

However the new Nerf Super Soakers are pretty awesome. They can be modified to shoot nerf darts. The modifications are a bit advanced but nothing terrible.

Here is my Tornado Blast. It is a Tornado Strike with Shotblast internals. The shotblast is last years SS but target has an exclusive reissue in this years SS color.

    dsc0489uo.jpg

Here are the internals. For those not familiar, this is a RSCB clip (RSCB is an acronym for the guys who created it). Darts are loaded in the rear tube all inline. You tilt it down and the darts slide freely to the "T" section. The other end is a tube of smaller diammeter, it must be a tight fit for darts. The bottom of the T has an elbow that you can hook up to powerful spring guns or air powered pump guns. In this case the Shotblast tank. Air is forced up into the T and takes the path of least resistance. Which is to fill up the tube with the darts, after finding no more room it will push out one dart out the barrel. Tilt to reload, prime the gun and shoot. each dart after the other will decrease in range or you pump the gun with more pumps to build pressure to compensate for the extra dead space.

I added a Nerf mag inside the SS mag. I oriented it upside down so I can pull the darts out and refill the internal magazine.

  4. heads up!

The Stampede seems to be on-sale this week.

Target has it locally (not online) at $39.99

while Amazon has it at $35.58 with free shipping.

not sure how much it is from TRU and wally's, tho.

btw, can the Raider have the drum-mag (or any compatible mag for it) installed on the right-side instead of the default left-side? without any modding, of course.

No you cant swap the raider to have the mag on the right.

The best option is to get an alphatrooper. Then the mag is loaded from underneath. only problem is that the drum has a left bias since the drum is not centered in relation to the magazine.

  5. I'd agree; out of box, without mod, a Raider is better than a Stampede. Lighter IIRC, can be faster. With mods though, a Stampede might get a bit more mileage, depending on nature of mod.

EDIT: Would like to ask though, can a Stampede take a 35rd Drum and still rest on the bipod (i.e., both bipod legs and the stock)? Working on something and would like to increase the ammo load beyond 18.

I cant recall at the top of my head. I know my recon can if I have the light inbetween the bipod and rail.

  6. I use the Raider's 35 dart drum on the Stampede, works great, and gives you a bit of an edge against a vulcan's 25 round belt.

As for the shield, I trimmed the inside opening along the ridge, and now it fits on the vulcan, where it actually makes a bit of sense as a stationary tripod mounted weapon.

The Raider is better and faster than the stampede. It shoots farther and you can be more precise with your shots in terms of timing and aim.

  7. An Airsoft BB in the tip of a streamline dart? never heard of that process before. I'll have to give it a shot.

Just broke out my Maverick last night and pulled out the air restrictors, and cut out the tabs on the barrel so it flips out completely now.

The band saw I bought 5 years ago is finally getting use! I took the shield from the Stampede, cut out along the ridge on the interior, and now it fits the Vulcan. Looks much better, like it belongs on the larger, tripod mounted gun.

I discovered the airsoft BB mod for the clip darts. It really only helps with stronger modified dart guns. For example, my nerf raider has a, upgraded spring. the BB tipped darts fly better. If you use it in a stock gun, even with ARs removed the bb will add too much weight and distance is decreased.

I use them with the pump airguns like the berserker or now my longstrike missile blast.

  8. I was looking at some of the guns people have modded at Nerf Haven... those guys take Nerf guns seriously! Mine are mostly for backyard fights with the neighborhood kids.

Most of my guns are in the process of being made into functioning cosplay props. Steampunk, Iron Kingdoms, Ren Faire, etc.

Oh yeah those guys are crazy. NH is a weird place. They like to sh!t in your cheerios a lot. Very immature, they ban you for asking questions if you didnt search first.

The buzzbee Ultimate Berserker is a target exclusive. i think it is a great "nerf" gun. It has primary potential and a two dart secondary turret that can be rapidly fired. I like to rush using the 20 darts and gain distance toward my enemy and then shoot them with the primary air tank.

Normally the primary system is designed to shoot these foam missiles. But if you change out the barrel to shoot stefans (home made darts) or mod the nerf streamlines (I add an airsoft bb in the tip to add more weight to increase stability during flight) the gun can fire great distances.

I removed the pump handle and added a cheap airsoft stock. Now I can shoulder and cheek the weapon properly.

    dsc0734r.jpg

Here is a video of using the berserker in close range. it is rather painful. It can cause large welts similar to paintball.
