  1. Surprised I'm here? Shouldn't be.

Granted I came late to the Macross side. It wasn't till I got out of the military that I even knew of the source material. My friend ran an import store and when I checked in he had DYRL on the tube and I was like "What is that!? You mean there's more then SDFM-TV?"

Thus my obsession continued and I tried to get all the vids I could at the time.

  2. Have to ask:

1.) Will you be releasing your works later (for like renders).

2.) Also will you have game friendly versions for various projects out there as well? There are many of us who would kill for more M7 meshes!

Regardless of the answers, keep it up! :)

  3. If you look at the time I was typing, just posted one minute after the post above me, it would have made more sense of you read Kremmen's post above that. I didn't count on a simultaneous post so I responded to him directly with no quote.

"The thing has the surface area of a major city; it should have tens of thousands of missile launchers and entire air forces' worth of fighters. smile.gif"

Yeah and have you tried flying over something like that in combat? Or just getting out a launch bay?

The damn battle would be over practically "Ok I'm here guys, is there any enemies left to kill???" :)

    Are you clear now?

  4. Besides...

Do you people even know how LONG it takes just to lauch or fly past the surface? A LONG time in a sublight fighter unless you keep accelerating past .1c, in theory eventually you can get to .99c BUT then you can't turn in space on a dime at that speed and need to decelerate the same amount if not more (I forgets)

I envisioned a 30ish KM ship and for testing and screenshot comparisons (It's fricking HUGE) takes me like almost 3mins to fly from bow to stren! :)

SS mesh enlarged to be a giant Battlestar type: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b321/Sta...leet/osiris.jpg

Can almost launch SDF-1's out Each side bay.

  5. And I think you missed my point. I meant before they would go for one taht big off the bat they would try to make a not so big one big still significantly bigger version first, THEN go for the super jumbo large deluxe version. :)

Kinda like the evolution of skyscrapers. (Modern Marvels is a great TV show!)

As for a MII: Macross Cannon

You could use a substitue... (wink). Like Macross VO. Then refine later when you have time.

Anyway nice ARMD. Are those details modeled or all in the texture?

  6. Not to say anything unkind, but she does other characters better than some...

As I'm sure all people do. But yeah her version of Klan isn't working for me. But that's my person opinion and is meaningless. :)

  7. Awesome work...

Note there's nothing saying you can't have one that big. But defiantely I think a 20-30km one as a progression step would be logical.

You don't go from building a 3-4km version to over 100 without testing. Funny things happen.

I'm really impressed you managed that level of detail with under 40k polys so far.

Quick question. Do you think you would ever try a Macross II version of the SDF-4 Apocalypse? (AKA Macross Cannon)

The SDF superstructure with 4 Zentreadi Nuepitiet flagships as arms instead of the ARMDs?

  8. Why can't you look for similar shapes in other sketchup models?

I mean if they exist can't you look at they way they are finished and try to figure out how they were constructed possibly?

Worse comes to worse if for personal use can't you extract the needed geometry, you just can't claim that part.

    Use them as learning tools.

As for that bit about "if interest grows". Don't do something just for the approval of others. You do things like modeling or modding for yourself!

Once it stops being fun, it's time to quit...

  9. I don't yet have the heart to start re-building my VF-1 from a 3 year old backup.

I know what that's like. One of my associates had just finished SDF storm attacker mode and his HD crashed. He gave up on it cause he's have to start from scratch and went to another game completely...Sucks, I just got one poor early screenie as a reminder. :(

  10. "Its construction drew .2% of Earth's resources"

Oh I think NOT. More realistically this mega ship of doom would take probably (20% of Earth's Military, Industrial, and commercial resource alone!), even that might be a bit LOW.

At least your time frame is more reasonable, by using 9 years to REBUILD a SDF-1 class as a comparison.

Personally, unless you make this some sort of planetary evac capable vessel or a Galctic conquest ship, I wouldn't make a WARSHIP bigger than 20km, 12.5 miles IIRC.

Plus I thought the GOVT wanted to make a more cost effective ship? This thing would probably take priority from any other endeavor and need much support during construction.

People have a tendancy to think "Bigger is better". Not always true.

Your tech base determines that. If they enemy can't hit you, see you, find you, or even get through shield/hull, then it almost don't matter what size your vessel is. Unless they use a Macross class to push a little gunboat into the sun. :)

    Those are just my opinions.

Still you can make whatever design you want, just trying to put some perspective here.

When you say 97 f;agships you mean "Nupetiet Flagships" right? Or Boldoza bases???

  11. No one can be ATLAS and carry a mod on their shoulders AND handle all that RL throws at them.

I am very happy though for the team that Shadow has been able to get you over teh hump that had stlled development for such a long time though.

Progress gets made in increments when talent and time are available, it's very fortuitous when you get BOTH at the same time!

I'm experiencing that myself for Star Blazers thank's to the StarShatter team. We both benefited from a collaboration of resources and progress is being made.

Still cheer leading for you guys despite any perceived differences on your end! :)

It's always a great feeling to see light at the end of the tunnel even if you still have a ways to get there.

  12. AKT_M, if the carrier is your don't take my request or SeminNV's answer at face value.

I intended to wait till it was finished and then ask him who it belongs to and THEN approach them to ask for permission (and the mesh).

    nuff said.

  13. I understand your frustration on certain points AA

And SeminNV it's not kosher to compare PC/Console. They each are good in their category.

Console is hardcoded for minor alteration, PC is the KING when it comes to modability though you take a hit on performance, and the general set up of the individual person.

10-20k isn't that bad for the average unit these days.

many of our newer FS2 modelers are cranking out ships that average 20k and it simply amazes me they work so well.

Now I think I mentioned that 2 years ago SCOOBY DOO on Hard Light Productions (the main FS2 site) is the MASTER of the clear cockpit hands down!!!

In fact I just bumped his main thread. AA you should go there and talk to him. Ask him how he does it and makes those low poly models look like they just came from SCI-fI meshes.com. He single handily revamped many of the WC meshes for the saga team.

Here I marked page 1 of his 8 pages of releases as he mentions his progress, plans and trials with clear canopies and cockpits. He's done about a dozen fighters not just in that thread. You should definitely post or PM him.

Sorry for the minor hijack SeminNV, I thought this was critical info all modelers could benefit from! ;)

One last thing, that SDF-1 is looking SWEET!!!! A huge improvement from your first one for sure.

  14. NP with the carrier, just wanted to say that pic of a side approach with the sun gleaming off the deck is outstanding!

I know it doesn't belong in space, but that's where I wanted to put it, probably as a replacement for our Prometheus model (it's very LP), I am however in collaboration with the Starshatter SB team and they have an "Enterprise" that looks promising. might be a few weeks before I can get a hold of it however.
