  1. Not sure if it should go here, or in a modeling thread; but is it just me, or wouldn't the F4-U Corsair have made an absolutely kick a$$ pusher-prop design?

I always envisioned a bubble canopy, like on the Super Corsair; and a vert stabilizer on the top of the engine cowling, with a smaller one on the bottom.  But hey, it seems some kit-basher had similar ideas.  The twin stabs on either wing makes more sense for a Naval aircraft though, allowing for a landing hook.  Still, can't help but wonder how fast that thing might have been, flying "backwards."

    I like feathery dinosaurs.

You know, I can deal with the concept of [some] feathery dinos--at least the smaller ones like raptors et al.  I can get that they basically looked like murder-Turkeys.  But the big guys like Allosaurus, Giganotosaurus, and good ol' T-Rex? well, I'm much more inclined to go with traditional thoughts/depictions of leathery/scaly skin.  To me, they'll remain non-feathered until more definitive evidence proves otherwise.  Although I will say that that sketch seems much more feasible to me as to their most-likely normal posture.  The more outstretched depictions--like that of those toys--seems too unbalanced to me.  The tail would need to be longer/thicker/heavier to counterbalance all of the weight of the skull, teeth, muscle and other murder hardware it has for it to remain stretched so straight and far ahead of the hips (CoG?).  Makes 'em look like they've tripped and are about to faceplant or something.

I remember reading somewhere that one prevailing theory is that the T-Rex is (probably) more closely related to chickens than they are to lizards.  Which leads to all sorts of terrible thoughts, like: so what did they (probably) sound like?  What if they clucked?  Dear God in Heaven above!  WHAT IF THEY CLUCKED?!?!

  3. Time to clear up some wall space for posters of an icon for a new generation, kiddies.  It's the new Lamborghini Aventa---er, Countach!  The Aventatach!  🤨

Apparently, only 112 will be built, and it seems that this "new" model has already sold-out.  Some are accusing Lamborghini of a cynical cash-grab, as this is not a new car, but rather just a re-skin of an existing model now considered long-in-the-tooth [they didn't even change the window glass].

  4. RIP, Milton.  You were a true hero....

Anybody wanna lay odds on how long it'll take for fans to start campaigning for Milton merchandise?  Like maybe Milton action figures, showing up in obscure places like some posh little specialty gift shop in Dupont Circle.  Hehe, there needs to be a Milton S.S. t-shirt.

  5. I didn't pay it any mind before, but couldn't help but think it funny--more like ironic funny and not ha ha funny--that:  for all that gratuitous violence, for all this movie's over-the-top gore and viscera, Gunn opted to not show the burning of the birds at Presidente General Luna's palace.

Guess for all their bravado and edginess, there are some organizations that Hollywood still won't cross, eh?

'Ay, you better not do that, man.  You better not fu*k wit' the SPCA, man.

ed: come to think of it, nobody stood a chance o' fighting off or killing any of those rats, either...

  6. Just checked it out with my son, we got lots o' chuckles outta this one.  Gets my vote as best of the DC movies.  Bit of a shame though.  This is one I'm sure I'd have rather been able to see in a theater; strikes me as a movie that's meant to be enjoyed an an experience together with an audience.  It'll be good for re-watches, just to go hunting for Gunn's trademark easter eggs.

I kept thinking: oh yeah; Gunn just Venture Brother'd the sh*t outta this one.  😜

I love how he didn't miss any opportunities to revel in the absolute absurdity of superhero-ing.  I'm sure everyone couldn't wait for King Shark's trailer moment, when he scoops up that poor bugger and gulps him down.  But it was the bit leading up to it that had us lol'ing and hitting the rewind button.   Was like: dafuk, is this big ol' shark, on land, in the middle of the fuggin jungle, supposed to be sneaking up on somebody?!?  I need that in a .gif.  😆

  7. Finally, a "more perfect" Mospeada replica bike--from Harley Davidson?!?

    pan-america-jpg__454103_.jpg?content=1, vr-052f-ride.jpg

Did a bit of a double-take when I happened upon this pic.  The H-D "Pan-America' ADV bike appears to be slated for 2020 release.  With some aesthetic changes to the front windscreen; rear of the seat; the exhaust pipe....

The US-spec version will have a big ol' 1250 cc engine stuffed in its frame.  But what if it were optimized for light weight and handling, with something like a 500 cc powerplant, eh?

On the other hand; I actually enjoyed the range outside of the box for episode 6. And I think you should actually read the interview you're attempting to reference from 2017:

    https://alanmooreworld.blogspot.com/2019/11/moore-on-jerusalem-eternalism-anarchy.html?m=1

This way you can speak better on the actuality of the topic instead of your spin; he's upset with the system, not the interpretation and expansion of his work by other artist.

Many thanks for the link.  Yes, I suppose Alan Moore's thoughts on where the characters' arcs should go are pretty much irrelevant, as he intimated that he's effectively divorced himself from those earlier works.

Still, I can't help but wonder: how much will his thoughts and feelings on the superhero genre have changed or evolved in the 25+ years between writing Watchmen and that interview?  i.e. It begs the question: just how much "Birth of a Nation" is in that original incarnation of H.J., eh?

  9. Okay, so I was thinking about trying to check this series out.  Then I happened upon a review article on ep 6, "This Extraordinary Being."  Apparently, this episode has an surprise reveal, that changes the legacy of a major original character from the comic.

    Spoiler

Watchmen’s sixth episode, “This Extraordinary Being,” is one of the most explosive episodes of television this year, and it’s all wrapped around one nuclear revelation: Will Reeves, a.k.a. Angela’s grandfather, a.k.a. the mysterious man in the wheelchair, is the superhero known as Hooded Justice. "

So, lemme get this straight.  You (you being the intrepid writers of this new show for HBO) would have us go with you on your premise that one of the very first superheroes--who will have started his vigilante work in the-late-'30's-to-early-'40's America; and who just happens to be black--would have chosen as his "union suit" to do his crimefighting: an outfit with a HOOD and a GODDA*N NOOSE?!?  You shi**in' me?

Nah.  Y'all can miss me wit that bullsh*t.

At first blush, this seems like an attempt at doing something outlandish and nonsensical just for shock value, and to generate clicks/views.  No wonder Alan Moore wants (Hollywood) people to leave his sh*t alone.  <_<

  10. Hehe, anyone who's seen a Formula 1 or other racecar from the 60's - 70's--back when aluminum monocoques were beginning to become the standard--without its bodywork will appreciate the "similarity."

    85534819.jpg

Actually, that's not really a fair comparison.  This guy looks like he's actually got more protection...  <_<

I’ll check out the Mr. Rogers movie.

I plan on buying these Black Hole figures from DST.

The thing that always "horrified" me about that movie was the ending.  Even as a kid, I realized: in order for Maximillian to accommodate/save Dr. Reinhardt, there would have to have been some, er, hasty amputation(s).

  12. Hehe, so they took the "Superman is a dick" theme, and cranked it up to 11...

This one may be worth checking out.  Saw the newest trailer; man, that bit with the fluorescent bulbs was cringe-tastic.  All I could think was: Man, I dunno about the kid, but that waitress is effin' hard core; how is she not freakin' the fu** out?!  Pretty sure I'd be like: OMG! OMG! Don't touch it! WTF! WTF! Fuuuuuuuuuuu!  :p

  13. So how long before more super-soldiers start showing up in the MCU?  We know the Russians and Americans have managed some degree of success in re-creating a serum to enhance soldiers.

The Russians managed to do it with Bucky, and even upped the output somewhat with the 5 sleeper-soldiers--before Zemo kills 'em in their sleep.  Was there any reason given for their not trying to create more?

Also, AFAIK I think the significance of Gen. Ross having "dusted off" the super soldier program to give Emil Blonsky his enhancements in 2008's The Incredible Hulk has gone largely understated.  In his first one-on-one with the Hulk, we see that Blonsky's moving at clearly increased speed, agility [and presumably strength] levels that appear to approach--but probably not equal--those of Steve Rogers.  It isn't until he forces Dr. Sterns to use the serum synthesized from Banner's blood that he turns into the Abomination.  You tellin' me Ross only secured enough material for one test run?

    Oh yeah, wait....

    b%2BL6V%2BgC7IQPE6Luutg

I can see how that might make Ross consider the test a failure.  <_<
