  1. Got some Gunpla news from Gunota.

Figure stuff can continue here - Gundam Figure Thread if you'd like.

    Via Gunota:

    47th Shizuoka Hobby Show

The show doesn't officially start for another 15 minutes but, as in the past couple of years, Run Chicken S is already posting the news first:

    MG G Armor

    MG Guntank

    HGUC Kämpfer

    MG Zaku Cannon - August

    MG Zaku Tank (exhibit only)

After years of rumors............FINALLY A GUNTANK!

    no pics yet :(

    But here are others:

    HGUC Kämpfer doing the limbo:

MG G Armor ad -- includes the "new and improved" Gundam 2.0:

    MG Zaku Tank exhibit:

What's with the red tail light in the last two pics?

  2. Just a question, is it possible to build a Sword Impulse from the MG kit that is coming out?

I also have hopes for a conversion kit otherwise, with Blast included. I always liked that design, but it was never popular.

The only thing you'll need is the backpack for the Silhouette module.
    ...and some red paint. ;)
  3. Guillermo del Toro confirmed, pics arriving in 2011 & 2012:

Guillermo del Toro to direct 'Hobbit'

Filmmaker signs on helm feature and sequel

In a major step forward on “The Hobbit,” Guillermo del Toro has signed on to direct the New Line-MGM tentpole and its sequel.

The widely expected announcement -- which had been rumored for several weeks -- came Thursday afternoon jointly from exec producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich, and Mary Parent, newly named chief of MGM’s Worldwide Motion Picture Group.

Del Toro’s moving to New Zealand for the next four years to work with Jackson and his Wingnut and Weta production teams. He’ll direct the two films back to back, with the sequel dealing with the 60-year period between “The Hobbit” and “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

New Line is overseeing development and will manage production. Both pics are being co-produced and co-financed by New Line Cinema and MGM, with Warner Bros. distributing domestically and MGM handling international.

Del Toro won’t leave for New Zealand immediately as he’s still in post-production on U’s “Hellboy 2,” due out in July. His previous pic, “Pan’s Labyrinth,” was released through New Line’s Picturehouse and set a record as the highest grossing Spanish language film in U.S. box office history.

The official signing of Del Toro comes four months after New Line settled a lawsuit with Jackson over “The Lord of the Rings” and announced that it had agreed with MGM to turn J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Hobbit” into two live-action films. Sam Raimi had been preceived as the initial front-runner as director but Del Toro had emerged in recent months as the likely candidate.

The studios didn’t give a start date on production and don’t yet have a script. Though no screenplay deal’s been set, it’s expected that the “LOTR” scripting team of Jackson, Walsh and Philippa Boyens will collaborate with Del Toro.

With Del Toro blocking out four years for the project, it’s likely that the studios are aiming at starting shooting next year and releasing the films in late 2011 and 2012.

Jackson’s WETA stages, post-production and visual effects facilities -- built for “The Lord of the Rings” -- will be used for both films. And New Zealand will again be the site of Middle-earth, with the story centering on Bilbo Baggins taking the Ring of Power from Gollum.

  4. Good photo there showing some of the best non-PVC Gundam toys... someday I've gotta get a DX GP-01FB... I'm curious about that massive Mk II... never seen it before. Got any more details about it?
It's a Korean bootleg by Academy. The also made a Musha-version called the General Marshall.

It's huge, heavy and chunky. It has some basic articulation, so no dynamic poses, but so what! The thing is humongus!

Here's an old article from about the time I bought it back in '99.

    http://www.toyboxdx.com/ramblearchive/r-9903.html

just scroll to the bottom of the page.

I may be able to dig some archived pics, if you'd like.

  5. Here's an old pic of mine showing:

    -- 1/43 Academy MK II

    -- 1/60 DX suits (GP-02A, GP-01Fb, and Wing)

These ones are big, chunky toys.

    -- 1/60 Hybrid Toy-Model F91

    -- 1/100 MG Sazabi & Nu

    -- Assorted MSIAs

    Gundam1.jpg

There are also the Arch Enemy figures out there that are about 10"-11" tall(?)

Have to look around for them and then there's the will to spend to get them.

  6. Tweaked info from Gunota:

    HG GN-X - July, 1,260 yen

Toys"R"Us Japan will be running a MG Weapon Parts Campaign: when you buy a MG kit over 3,000 yen and bring the receipt to the store's service counter, you get a Strike Gundam bazooka.

Must have had a ton of extra bazookas from the 2005 campaign:

Strike Gundam Bazooka - (10/2005) – Available to first 1000 entrants of Hong Kong's MG Gunpla Draw in October.

GM Kai Rifle - (10/2005) – Available to first 1000 entrants of Hong Kong's MG Gunpla Draw in October.

azrael - Yeah, I think the Impulse looks nice. Interesting how they have the Strike Noir parts attached in the top right corner. I also wonder if they will "milk the mold" for the Sword and Blast Impulses......meh, who am I kidding...of course they will! <_< They should be nice for once and release a "Version Up-style" set with the armaments and respective colors (Red=Sword and Green=Blast) to add to the original Impulse.

Hikuro - Maybe the new technology with this 2.0 means it will come already assembled!!

  7. Hobby mag news via Gunota and others:

    MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0 - Summer

MG Shin Musha Gundam - June, 5,250 yen

1/100 Tieren Ground Type - June, 2,730 yen

    1/100 Gundam Astraea Type F - June, 2,940 yen

1/100 Gundam Avalanche Exia - July, 2,940 yen

BB Senshi Sangokuden Kanpei Gundam - June, 630 yen

Reported dates for the following (not quite 100% confirmed):

    HG GN-X - July

  8. 0080 and 08th MS Team are at the top of my list. ^_^

As mentioned above, Gunota Headlines is an excellent source for Gundam news and cannot be recommended enough.

It is also where I gather the info for the checklists in my signature. Have a look-see. ;)

Also MAHQ is an amazing source for any/every type of vehicle that exists in the Gundam universe.

  9. Anyone have any opinion on "who's AVI subs are better" for Geass R2?

I'm counting 3 groups so far (Eclipse, Tsuki-Kage, and AviXman).....dunno which to pick.

I'm leaning to Eclipse only because I've seen them around before.....

  10. I've been willing Bandai to do a Denby since the line's first year and still nothing bigger then a mobile suit has come out.

No Dendrobium, no meteor and probably no GN Arms for Exia, I don't get it myself, it's not like Bandai at all.

Going back to the HCM-Pro Interview posted by Gunota from way back in 2006:

Gundamer.com presented the first of a three-part interview with Matsuoka-san, in charge of the HCM-Pro line within Bandai's Hobby Division. As this section of the interview is entitled "The Birth Of HCM-Pro", most of the discussion is about how the line came to be and what goes into making them. One interesting portion follows:

Q: "They had character merchandise for L-Gaim and others in the High Complete Model days so why not expand the HCM-Pro line like that?"

A: "Basically, I really want to. That possibility exists down the road. Since I put ideas about scale toys first, when I talk about extremes, I want to create not only robots but also things that are detailed but bring an element of play. To apply a detailed feel to, for example, a character's bike or his plane or something. I've been thinking it'd be nice if we can expand the merchandise."

    - With a new line of merchandise, they start with the First Gundam stuff but they also attempt to mix in others for fans. At the very least, they try not to put out a single MS without some kind of logical context behind it. "If we do this one, then there's also this other one." Pointing to CCA as an example, the Nu and Sazabi are the two lead MS but then they have to consider that Amuro also flew the Re-GZ before the Nu.

    - Why CCA HCM-Pro's now? Matsuoka-san says they're focusing on the Amuro/Char rivalry story element carried through MSG & Zeta and ending in CCA.

    - Why the Jagd Doga first in the CCA line instead of the Nu or Sazabi? More or less, they're releasing them in the order they appear in the story.

    - Since large-scale items have shown up in the MSiA line, the possibility of mobile armors for HCM-Pro is asked about. Matsuoka-san says he wants to try it and that the Psyco Gundam Mk II has been under consideration. He also seems to hint that the Elmeth will be next, pointing out the flashback sequence in CCA in which Char's Gelgoog (already released in the middle of the CCA HCM-Pro line-up) also appeared.

Q: How long does it take to release a product?

A: Starting with art drawing, about a year. Right now we are working on April or May release product. (*Interview took place in June) Creating the metal mold is the process that takes up the most time.

Q: Will there be a ver Katoki HCM-Pro releases like in plamodels?

A: We're thinking about it little. Something like a designer version releases.

So bigger items have been discussed, but not having seen anything in almost two years is pretty disappointing and not a good sign.... :(

  11. A little clipping has given rise that we may see a MG 1/100 Sinanju.

    SINANJUhobby.jpg

What's the little ditty next to "MG"?

Is it about the previously released Unicorn kit?

Would make sense to have the 'arch-enemy'.........such as the hopes of the Nightengale opposing the Hi-v.

But the Zeon suits from Unicorn are nice indeed!
