1. Yeah I got seriously hosed by BBTS. And not only because did they didn't ship my two units of the VF-25S I had on preorder, and of course we don't get to find this lovely bit of news until after the stores in Japan sold out. Frigging two weeks I kept noticing the 25S on HLJ and other places, but I thought to myself "No, I'll just keep my BBTS preorders. They've always been good to me before and I'd only save about $20 by importing them. I'll support my 'local' merchants". Silly me. Then they held the preorders even though there was no chance of them being filled until finally they fully cancelled them on all of us early May if i remember correctly. Then that same week they cancelled a number of additional preorders I had for Bubblegum Crisis figures they claimed were coming available again. I've never been so pissed at an online retailer before. they seriously cancelled almost $1000 worth of preorders with little more than a shrug and an "oh well". I'm not sure where the hell they got their info that Yamato was releasing the BGC figures again but to follow up the 25S by screwing me on another batch of preorders? I'll never use them again.
2. I wonder if Bandai suddenly listened to the fans and said to themselves "WTF are we doing? Why are we letting scalpers sell every unit we have for three times retail? Why don't we just....I dunno....maybe make a few extra?".....And then I woke up and realized this is still Bandai we're talking about. Nevermind. They're gone already....
3.
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up! Secured a unit. I already had one reserved with Amazon Japan but given the rarity of the Renewal line I was worried that even one of the biggest online retailers in the world isn't immune to the Fantastic Bandai Dildo Fest of Macross Fan Anus Destruction... Best of luck to everyone else. If I get more than one I'm definitely up for trading for the VF-25S that BBTS screwed me out of if there's anyone sitting on a new one of those.
4. Haha..true. Obviously I'm just really pissed. Probably wont dump the collection but it's super late here and finding out that Bandai screwed the fans again just plain sucks. There's no reason to support a company that makes insta-break toys that only the scalpers can even get ahold of so I'm just not going to play their games and support them going forward. Hopefully Yamato can take better care of fans down the road. Their stuff may break too but at least you can find it for a fair price. They don't ship internationally (at least on games, dvds/cds, toys, etc) so you'd need someone in Japan to take delivery & forward the product to you.
5. For anyone still looking they're up on Amazon Japan. I'm still passing at this point.
6. Wow....F*** YOU BANDAI. This is utter bullshit. The last time I saw theatrics like this with product availability it was for the Totoro Posters from Mondo (they were supposedly sold out instantly and would take two weeks to arrive from the manufacturer....yet Ebayers in Texas somehow magically had them in hand, ready to ship the same day...). Personally I will not do business with a company that manipulates the market like this so I'm done paying 200+ for "collector's quality" figures that aren't half as durable as a $3 GI Joe figure. Honestly I'm so pissed about this series of events (VF25S Renewal, YF-29, and now this) that it sullies the quality of every Bandai product I own. Suddenly I want nothing to do with my SOC Collection...thanks a bunch Bandai for being total asshats. Well I guess I have some ebay auctions to prepare. I'll certainly have the funds for every Yamato release coming out this year... See above. This is a complete defraudment of the consumer and I honestly hope people will stop putting up with it.
7.
I certainly hope so. I had no problem procuring the 25F Renewal but then got to enjoy the pleasure of getting that lovely email from BBTS informing me that I just got screwed on the 25S...right after I had to pre-pay my YF-29 import with AE (which is VERY shady on their part) because I happened to be sleeping during the 5 minutes that it took everyone else to sell out. So right now I have a very foul taste in my mouth in regards to Bandai. I'm not sure that I've previously seen a company go out of their way to not make money and instead ensure that the secondary marketeers are the only ones who profit from their work. I am hopeful that the 25S & YF-29 "shortages" will not be representative of Bandai's further behavior or I'm just going to wash my hands of them and never touch anything associated with them again. PS And with the shutdown of Bandai America they just killed Turn-A Gundam finally getting a US release....so at this point they've started the year off in a very poor mannner...
8. Sexy...but will bandai actually manufacture more than 5 units? Or will they be complete dicks and let the price scalpers make all the money and screw the fans once more?
9. I'm not sure that I buy the argument that it's a exchange rate issue. I started buying Yamato valks in the early days (until about 2004)but lost interest when it turned into one reissue after another. In the last couple months I've gotten back into the hobby big time picking up the SDF-1, YF-19 Weathering Version, and VF-1S Renewal (yes...a renewal but I never owned a Rick/Hikaru valk previously) along with some of the Bandai Chogokins. Getting back into the hobby has been stunning in terms of the cost however. All my "old" valks are still new in the box and on discovering this forum recently I've been seriously reevaluating whether I want to bother. The problems my fellow collectors are having with joints, shoulders, etc are stunning given the price of these figures. At least in the beginning the figures were 7800-9600 yen (if you look at the 1/60 scale)...now they're about twice that or more (22000 yen is the average now). So this really isn't an exchange rate issue. While the exchange rate sucks it only means we're paying ~130 for what used to cost ~100... that doesn't excuse a price point nearly three times that of the line's introduction especially given how these figures seem to literally fall apart even when treasured on a shelf...boy that's a fair way to treat your supporters Yamato (and Bandai)...
