Looks like they at least got Komilia, Mylene and Emilia mostly right but screwed up the others. I wonder what Robotech's version of Gubaba's origin would be? Gah, they'd probably screw it up and make it talk or something.

So you have no frakin' clue about our nonsense yapping about Robotech, sequels and franchise and our pointless endless comparisons to its original works? I think you might wanna ed-ju-ma-kate yourself and go watch it on Youtube or Hulu.

I'm actually aware of quite a few things. Gundamn!@MAHQ has been very helpful in that regard. And really, I'm kind of a purist anyway, so that's why I went to Macross first. So here are two reasons I don't want to watch Robotech.

1. This is a show that asks you to believe that there was an SDF-2 (which was actually much bigger than the SDF-1) positioned so perfectly back-to-back with the Macross that you couldn't see it. Now The Real Ghostbusters asked me to believe a lot of crazy things in the name of weird science but nothing that ridiculous.

2. After listening to Mari Iijima's english performance as Minmay and hearing clips of RT Minmay, I'm pretty sure I'd rather listen to Shao Pai Lon looped for five hours than suffer through RT Minmay.

Now I'm not saying that RT is bad or anything, I'm just saying that it's not my cup of tea. Macross is enough for me. And obviously HG isn't doing Robotech any favors. Samuel J. Houston on a bicycle, I'm glad they don't have thier hands on any other important franchises.

Maybe it's just 'cause I've never seen Robotech, but she looks like Generic Anime Character. Doesn't look at all like she's one of Max and Milia's kids. Maybe a distant cousin to Muse and Therese.

Now to the characters. Basara is likable enough as a hot-blooded rocker and Valkyrie pilot but he can be a jerk a lot of the time. He also doesn't have a lot of dramatic change in the series. When you look at what Hikaru went through originally, especially with Roy dying, not too much happens to Basara and he's pretty much the same character throughout the whole series. This would certainly be a big minus if the series was plotted differently, but the way Macross 7 is, it's thankfully minor.

[Gamlin's] old boss Lt. Docker gets points and a mention simply by being a pimp and dating Sally and Miho at the same time, something that the ladies in question don't mind one bit! (Which really makes me wonder about those two... you know what? better not go there.)

I think we should take a step back and talk about the REAL issue here.

Specifically, that jerk Gamlin getting Millia's 1J blown up!

I like Macross II, because every mention of it doesn't start week-long flame wars full of personal insults and strawman attacks.

I_Fly_For_Firebomber probably knew exactly what he was doing when he started that thread about Basara.

Even the recent BSG adopted the concept that bio beats mechanical in the technological hierarchy.

Which is one of those sci-fi tropes that is really, really ridiculous. But in any case, I think that instead of throwing around a lot of arguments, perhaps we should objectively stack Basara up against the other main Macross male protagonists.

Let's go with Hubble for this example.

A lot of what he said was pretty true, but I am one of those fans who's tired of having the main protagonist be some snotty 15-year old kid. I'm starting to become less able to suspend my belief about the plausibility of a kid getting into a huge robot and saving the universe, etc... I had the same complaints about MacF, but the rest of the characters were really what saved the day for me.

Regardless, he's right... we'll just have to wait to see how things pan out for this series.

Well I wouldn't hold your breath. As the video pointed out, the only two main Gundam protagonists are Domon (who really wasn't that adult) and S2 Setsuna. It'll keep going and going and going...

Somehow I just don't think ME lends itself well to multiplayer but it does make me even more suspicious of the video game industry's financial status. And as for that Liara statue... why are anime artists obsessed with big boobs? Seriously, I'd like to know.
