  1. nice stuff in there! soon, you'll need another detolf to fit everything. it always starts with 1, not i have 10. =]

    Thanks!

I am not sure if I will ever have 10, but I am destined for one more at least to store my Macross Zero (damn that stuff is Big) and Macross Plus.

Thankfully due to japanese exclusives I have no chance of collecting the full SDF Macross set so I am not really gonna start (though a VF-1D is in my future)

I probably will end up with three total depending on how big Macross 7 stuff gets.

  2. Does anyone have a link to the thread where someone was casting their own canopy covers for the VF 22s. I remember reading it but didn't have a VF22S at the time and now I can't find it.

    thanks

  3. I will start with the warning that I have crap for a camera and am not a talented photographer like some of you, but here is my first display case completed. I call it DYRL? Plus because of a couple toys that aren't strictly from DYRL? but I think fit the theme.

The second shelf is my engineering/armoury themed shelf, and the bottom shelf is Max themed.

  4. So, support Macross by BUYING it. When people realize that there's money to made in English speaking markets, they are going to spend money to create materials specifically for the English speaking markets.

By not buying and making available/downloading (aka stealing) the material, you're not only killing the chance for a professional English version, you're also hurting it in the domestic market and any non-English speaking markets it's been, being or soon to be released in.

I am not one to be told to buy things Macross. All I am saying is that these will inevitably be scanlated and money will be lost because no proper English release was done sooner/in the first place. Especially if they are as good as purported to be. I feel that most Macross fans are willing to pony up for a legit release, problem being we haven't got one since Macross Plus.

My example with the Blu-Ray was to show that they would not have to actually make a North American release as long as proper English subs were applied, North America would order from Japan and screw Harmony Gold. Just look at all the people who bought them without subs..Imagine if they were subbed.

  5. ...and it's shenanigans like this that make me realize that releasing my scanlation out to the general public would be an extremely unwise move... <_<

I dunno, if Big West wanted to be a part of the English market, they would release an English edition. Other then Macross II and Plus (which I am very thankful for) they have shown they don't really care about distribution to North America. It really is only a matter of time before an English translation is made available through some source, it is just a shame that Big West wasn't that source. I shake my head at how easy it would have been to include English subs on All the Macross Blu-Ray's and what that could have done to further their sales. It is the same for these comics. It does take time, but it isn't exactly like translating Don Quixote if you know what I mean...its a comic. Also, it is an incredibly safe venture because they have already relied on the Japanese market to cover the actual production costs, even if an English edition failed (which it wouldn't) they would essentially only lose the cost of the paper its printed on.

Anyway, it is just sad that we always get left out. I think even though there are less fans of Macross in North America, we tend to be pretty rabid and would support any honest attempts at English Macross distribution.

I am not taking a side, but I (like many others) enjoy collecting and having an item in hand to read from, not clicking a button on the computer, and I would love English editions.

  6. You guys are fast, I accidentally posted before I finished the poll and you guys were in before I edited. You are both 100% right about Nausicaa!

For me seeing the movie also helped his manga come alive because my minds eye can fill in the motions easily after seeing how he animates.

Somewhat similar to how I was introduced to macross (clash of the bionoids), I watched Warriors of the Wind all the time as a kid. I nearly crapped myself when we got the full release on DVD.

  7. In honor of the upcoming North America Nausicaa Blu -Ray release, I started this poll.

I know there are some Miyazaki fans in the crowd, so cast your vote for favorite and tell us why!

For me, all his films have a little bit of magic in them, but I am a die hard Nausicaa fan. The setting, creatures, animation quality, fight scenes, music...damn. The music where Nausicaa gets chased by the Tormekian corvette on her glider still gives me chills. Or the God warrior nuking a horde of Ohmu.

Spirited away and Castle of Cagliostro hold a special place in my heart too.

I like Monoke Hime, but in contrast to many, I prefer how Nausicaa tells the same tale.

  8. So as part of what I like to call my extended DYRL? line of Yamato Valkyries I am wanting to do a customized DYRL VF-1a.

I know I need to add some black paint apps to the shoulders and forearms, but I am unsure as to what squadron to badge him as.

Specifically, what logo should I use for the Fast packs and what numbers for his wing. I would like to use something from the anime to retain a degree of authenticity but would prefer if I could make use of decals that came with my other DYRL valks.

Let me know what you guys think I should do. Right now I am thinking dark grey UN spacy kite for the fast packs, but I remember seeing the "green arrow" squad in a thread awhile back, and that was definitely in the show. I would hust need to make some decals

  9. Come on, there must have been some other episodes that you enjoyed at some other level? I mean it's one thing to sit through a movie or a 6 episode OVA one doesn't enjoy, but to sit through a 49 episode series one dislikes without getting something out of it seems a bit far fetched.

I've done it twice. Like 5+ years between viewings. Episode 26 and fleet of strongest women are not bad and parts of Op Stargazer.
