  1. i'm stumped on what to do for landing gear. any ideas?

Definitely no wheels ! I agree with ultimateone, Viper's style skids/landing gear is the best option - but every time i look to a Lancer a little voice in my mind scream "skyhook, skyhook !!!" In this case spacehook, of course... Just put i tripod setup and that's fine. I got the 1/72 Lancer too and i'm buying the 1/48 just to make it with full and open cockpit, the ideia from ahiacris is great, looks like the Moscato's Gnerl cockipt, looks amazing ! And you don't need to make a vacuumform piece...

That's the thing with the Lancer. And a few of the other mechs. There's just not enough pics/info on them. You're going to have to fill in the blanks with the little details, like the landing gear.

Skids would probably work best for this mech. Hard to tell until you have it done in front of you! :)

Regardless, I'm excited to see how this turns out!

  2. Rodimus is my favorite TF, but since currently like 90% of my toys are in storage so I just take pics of the newer stuff I have. It's either in this thread or in the 19 thread i posted a pick of Basara singing to Hot Rod and ROTF Leader Starscream.

Rodimus is my favorite TF too. Have you had a chance to play with the Takara MP Rodimus Convoy yet? It's amazing. I got lucky and got a flawless Rodimus, cause I know a few people had some QC issues with theirs. But damn. He's a great toy once you figure out those tricky legs!

  3. In all fair respect to Toynami, I don't think they have much control over the current situation.

The entire world economy is hurting right now. Their supplier cannot export their product until they have a full shipment. I can understand it from the supplier POV. And I think I can see it from Toynami's.

Toynami is trying to capitalize on the 1/100 enemy mech. We're getting the Heavy Artillery, the Light Missile, the Regult, the Glaug. Even BBTS has it's own exclusives! (DYRL schemed Heavy Artillary Battle Pods). Oh, and there was the SDCC exclusive, the DYRL themed Regult Battle Pod.

Yeah, waiting sucks. But as a Macross/Mospeada/Robotech fan, I'm always waiting. I'm use to it. :)

As far as the 1/100 Transformable Mech, I think we will see more of it. They're the only game in town now that BanDai unofficially ceased production on their glorious hi-metals. (Which is a damn, damn shame). Talk about a company NOT capitalizing on a great product...

    Anyhoot, my two cents.

  4. Wow. Now I'm happy I skipped over the 1st DX releases. :D

You and me BOTH! Actually, I purchased one. I usually go balls out and order the entire series, but something told me to hold back. SOOOOO glad I did.

If this one has better paint apps and is better designed, I will probably get to go "balls out" on Macross Frontier! :)

  5. Thanks for the reply.

Don't know how viable this is, but I have been told that in addition to sunlight, that certain types of cigarette smoke (cigar too, I imagine) can also cause plastic to oxidize (turn yellow).

  6. I built the 1/160 kit a couple of years ago and it is about 12 inches long by 7 inches high. The parts did not fit well and there were lots of seams after the parts are put together. So be prepare to do lots of sanding and putty applications. I added ball joints at the hip for the legs to toe out a bit since the original fitting point for the hips is just a solid bar that did not allow any side way leg movements.

    Here are some photos.

Thanks for the scale! Yeah, that's a big model kit! I may check out that 1/144.

  7. Yeah, rubbing alcohol and BanDai paint do NOT MIX. I've had better luck with Yamato's paint. Been working on an Alaska Guard custom, and let's just say, some of the original Yamato paint wasn't cooperating very well when it came time to take it off. My VF-25 on the other hand, had paint chips even before taking it out of the box! But with all things mass produced, we will all have different experiences, I'm sure.

For cleaning, I use a feather duster and canned air. If I have to "get in there," I use my Oakley sunglass cleaner (unlimited lifetime refills) and a microfiber cloth.

Now when I go into the Oakley store to refill the cleaner, I neglect to tell them that their sunglass cleaner also works wonders on my imported collectibles. :)

  8. I don't have cats so I'm not so worried about them falling over. I really gotta do that mod of putting two detolfs together!

I'm with you on that! It's amazing that a collection of that magnitude and I was still able to take my eyes off it enough to notice the display case. That's saying a high praise for those mods. And for the case itself, honestly, for the price, you can't beat it. The mod just makes it that much better. Instead of a 14 square inch display area, you now have a 14 by 28 inch. Plenty of room to display some of those giant toys.

  9. I got a soft spot for this mech. I really, really *LOVE* the fighter. The batroid is very unique. Don't know if I've ever seen it's gerwalk...

I hope Yamato takes a stab at this. I agree with >EXO< that it has a LOT of potential. I use to dislike the YF-21 Batroid until the 1:60 was released. Hopefully a good toy of this figure will swing some fans in favor of this unique mech.

    I digress.

This is one of the most beautiful scratch builds of that era. Take that with a grain of salt from a big fan of the VF-4. :)

  10. Hey Ambient73!

I will keep an eye out for you. Right now, I'm holding onto these for trades.

However, if you want to get an inexpensive henkei of these figures, check out KOtoys.com. This is probably your best bet for acquiring these figures without paying an arm and a leg. The quality is EXCELLENT. And the schemes look better than the Hasbro (USA) release.

Hope this helps! Good luck on your hunt!

  11. I know it's a pipe dream, but I was so hoping to get a 1:60 Monster. I know, I know.

I just assumed the other two Destroids would see a release date.

I guess I don't mind doing the model thing as long as it's not going to destroy me financially to get one (or two). And two, that these kits can be obtained easily.

The future looks grim for our 1:60 Destroids...

  12. BanDai recently re-issued a bunch of "old school" model kits by ex manufacture Arii and Imai. The Monster was included but only the smaller sacle version, namely 1/200.

Maybe you are being offered this one. However, if you can find one, I would rather suggest you go for the Yellow Submarine 1/144 resin kit version original or recast. This kit has a much better proportion.

Thanks for the heads up! I am new to modeling. I have not done it since I was 7. But I love Macross, and I figured it would be a good way to me to explore a new aspect of this universe. :)
