  1. Motoko can have a real feminine side right? :p

And while late and overdue but to Drifand - your collection is amazing... I need to re-shuffle my display to be more like yours.

PS: Fewture Gokin GITS 2nd Gig Tachikoma with batteries finally inserted (2x AA) under low light conditions. I think it looks great with the LEDs but too bad you cannot open the control pod since that is the battery housing. Control pod cannot be removed either and ball joints are loose! I need to figure out how to take the legs off and add some resistance to the joints for better posing strength. Overall, I love it for the weight, beautiful paintjob and it's character. When I have time, I will compare it to Captain America's custom 1/18 Tachikoma kit.

  2. Chet,

Already replied via PM but the best places to toy shop in HK are as follows:

Richmond Center on Argyle Street in Mong Kok

CTMA to visit Hot Toy's awesome retail shop and other shops in Mong Kok

Animate - across the street from CTMA in MK

Sino Center - literally behind CTMA on Nathan Road in Mong Kok

UML Model and Hobby shop on Dundas Street and Nathan Road - across Nathan Road on the first corner from Sino Center in MK

There is also G-Systems in the back alley next to the street where all the model shops are.

In's Point in Yau Ma Te - lots of Macross and 1/6 action figures here

Toy Zone 18th floor on Sugar Street in Causeway bay

Another building next to Toy Zone has 2 floors of toys

188 Shopping Center in Wan Chai

Those are the shops I would advise all visitors to Hong Kong to shop. It would be ALMOST like going to Akiba, Nagano and Shibuya but on a much smaller scale! :D But nothing beats Japan toy shopping except for the high YEN to USD and HKD rates.

  3. Today was a great day!!!! Received EXO's 1/10 saddlebags (a great quality product, perfect complement for the bikes!!), Captain America's first installment of the 1/32 Legioss (one word: epic!!!) and CM'S Dark Pilotless Legioss from a Hong Kong seller (ebay "buy it now option" for only U$S69,99 + shipping).

    :) :)

Can you post some pictures of Captain's first installment parts please? A lot of us missed out on the buy opportunity so we all would be grateful just with some pictures! :D

  4. If you really want it, it can still be found for ~ original retail price ~ 150-175 USD. If the shop is in Hong Kong, pm me and I can help you out.

I need to re-shuffle my cabinet so will post pictures of the GSC and Fewture version later, but it has been posted in the last page. I think 1/18 scale is awesome as it looks good with the resin Appleseed Landmates, GI Joes, HT Aliens, Appleseed and Predator snap kits (says 1/20 but are really close to 1/18) and are a nice size, but the next step up needs to be 1/6 to get my blood pumping.

No more weird 1/15, 1/12, 1/10 or 1/7 scale... Its usually within a few inches away from either 1/18 or 1/6 for not more money.

  5. If someone has a spare or new one or unbuilt or partially built or even built one and wants to let it go, please let me know.

I missed out on this when I was busy raising my new born baby. Still busy but she's a walker now! :D

Have a few mint 1/48s to trade with and w/o boxes including clear parts, 1/48 resin kits (recasted) VF-1 Strike + YF-21 and maybe other rare stuff.

I might have non Macross items to trade too including rare or hard to find Hot Toy's 1/6 figures.

    Thanks for looking.

  6. Call ME heartless and you are welcome to do whatever you want with your money but I won`t be donating to this appeal. There`s just something off about it seeing as Japann is a rich country but their public generally do not give to charity of any kind themselves. I mean theres something I just don`t like about the Japanese students at my local university asking for donations now but a month ago when Australia had its biggest floods in half a century and thousands were made homeless they didn`t give a fvck. I know the Australian floods were nothing like this scale but still a lot of Australians gave but Japanese culturally do not give money to charity. They seem happy to ask for it though? Just doesn`t sit right with me is all..

Now giving to a country that gives like the US, or a dirt poor country that has nothing to start with, that I can get behind.

I have to give you props for having the balls to state your true feelings. Giving to those who give and not giving to those who don't is totally your prerogative. However, if most people feel like you, which in reality really do, then the world would not evolve to become a better place.

I am 8.6+ quake survivor from 89' in California and luckily didn't need a handout get my life going while many of my fellow Californians and personal friends were totally effed. But still, I've have given to the flood victims in Louisiana, Indonesian Tsunami, and quake relief in China 2008 and 2009. I just understand what these people have endured and for those who really need help, I hope my little bit can make a difference to them. And maybe one day, those who have received help would not think twice to help someone else, not necessarily me, in need.

    That's my prerogative.

Thank God the radiation is falling. That would impact everyone on earth regardless of their political or personal feelings.

  7. Truth being told, many fans/members are having a tough time to accept to pay 200-300 US dollars for a Yamato (macorss) toy for quite some time now.

I have to agree with this. It has made my interests in collecting Macross wane since size/proportion vs dollar has been at opposites. There are a lot of other products to buy for less these days, and that is too bad in the long term for Yamato.

  8. [*]For those wanting a smaller, more affordable SDF-1, I’ll just say that patience is a virtue and the virtuous are often rewarded.

No, that is not what we want. We want a big, affordable, perfect transforming and fully finished product. Not a cut down smaller item. For that, we can wait for Bandai to re-released their old 1/2500 DX then! Whats the point?

And yes, for those curious, I have been offered one and call me crazy, but I will probably turn it down, as a) it's too big for my shoebox sized Hong Kong appartment and b) I'd honestly feel guilty about accepting such an expensive gift for free.

I think you should accept this on behalf of MW and give us an indepth review with tons of pictures. There are lot of Macross fans with design, engineering and product development backgrounds here who are able and willing to offer free advice to Yamato to make this into a viable mass production item.

Also, since when has 24" been "too big"? Thats the same as 2x 1/48 Battroids or nearly the same size as the 1/4 scale Minmay! I'm sure fellow MW members would gladly help you store some of your collection to make space for the SDF-1.

Please reconsider and have it shipped to you ASAP. :D

  9. The resin used is not the same type of resin used for garage kits, I was told it is used in the automobile industry and is supposed to be very strong.

If its PU or Polyurethane, then it is a used in BUMPERS, dashboards, interior trim, seats (as a foam) in automobiles. The last project I used it was for a mass production foam product. By varying the density, you control strenght vs flexibility but am not sure if it can capture detail as good as ABS but it is a tough material when dense.

As for using this material instead of ABS due to "large" parts injection, take a look at Hot Toys 1/6 Batman Tumbler. The body is assembled from multiple ABS panels and if you factor in man hours, it still cost nearly 1/10 of the proposed cost of the SDF-1.

Again, I have never seen high detail parts from PU but I cannot imagine it to cost a relative 5x as much as a high detailed ABS product.

  10. First off, the G System stuff is done in China with little or NO licensing. Secondly it's Tumbler not Rumbler. ;)

Obviously they screwed the proverbial pooch on this one.

Ah missed that about the spelling. Was hating too much to realize it, even though I have my Tumbler in the other room. :D

The G System item is non licensed but even with a 20% licensing fee, it would still be only 1920 USD and is in fact a lot bigger and better than what Yamato has shown. That is list price and can be obtained for a lot less if you know where to look. ;)

And if Yamato comes out with a resin kit, they save a lot of money on the molds... no plastic, no steel molds... just resin molds... and we all can guess how much those would cost...

I think its time for Captain America to save Macross fans again!

  11. I was told about the new price over the phone from a local Macross fan yesterday and the first thing that came out of my mouth on the price was "What the f#ck?!"

I WAS also willing to put down money for this before the official price announcement but Yamato has some serious misconceptions of the global economy and how to treat their fans.

I'm sure they can sell the same number of units as the first issue exclusive 1:1 helmets, which were reissued later at a fraction of the price. They screwed those initial fans who bought into the exclusivity then but then removed the chest armor for the 2nd issue.

What would they do with the SDF-1? Sell less than 10 units, then reissue it 6 months later with no interior for a fraction less? Why not guage market sales and adjust the price accordingly to help sell more units to amortize their molds?

If I can buy a 45 inch tall unpainted ULTRA detail 1/35 EXS Gundam resin kit for 1600 USD, or a mass production Hot Toys 1/6 Batman Rumbler for 400 USD, why can't Yamato figure out how to cost it down reasonbly?

It better have MORE details than the 1/35 Gundam EXS and more playability than the Batman Rumbler with led lighting, motorized mechanisms for transformation, sound chip with all the bridge sounds + Minmay singing DYRL in DTS-ES surround sound, and FULLY PAINTED and ASSEMBLED to justify their asking price or damn them forever to produce those unsellable, overpriced PVC girlie figures that are taking up too much shelve space for much better toys.

Yamato - so much hope, yet so much dissappointment.
