  1. Hmmm, this brings up a good topic. I've heard from two or three RT fans that Macross has been copying Robotech. The proposed evidence is:

-Ariel/Marlene was one of the good, green blooded aliens, so is Ranka??? I didn't get that one, since Ranka is neither an alien, nor green blooded

-Macross copied the rpg book Lancer's Rockers (Hahaha  ) Because Lancer and his rocker guy fight aliens w/ music weapons, and Basara fights the aliens w/ music. After this, I stopped trying to argue with the guy at this point. It was just too dumb to even try.

-Frontier copied Shadow Chronicles and New Generation, because the aliens are bug like, and have green blood

I don't remember the rest of them, they were really way off base, but maybe someone here can fill me in. And no, I'm not going to point fingers and call the persons names, I was just wondering if anybody here has encountered these claims before. I think taking a small detail of a story doesn't mean they are copying the entire series, or necessarily even that description. There's lots of movies that have evolved, and some are just coincidental, especially considering the two universes of Robotech and Macross are pretty similar.

Can't say I've ever heard these claims, but they're pretty funny. Couldn't you argue the point that Millia/Myria had green hair too, was alien, and the original Macross came out a year or two before Mospeada? Or that the power of song was a strong influence even in the original Macross/Robotech First Generation? Insect like enemies? That's been around for a long time, like in the novel Starship Troopers. I can't believe I'm making an argument of the claims you've heard from Robotech "true fans" . Though didn't we hear once somewhere that the Robotech storyline inspired Big West to do Macross sequels? Also, I would really like to hear some of Harmony Gold's statements trying to get people to ignore later Macross storylines entirely, just for laughs. :D

  2. SAN DIEGO, CA, July 21, 2011 - Long before the current live-action Transformers franchise took over the box office and introduced giant alien robots to a new generation, there was a sweeping animated sci-fi epic that delivered "mecha" to the masses: Robotech. Arriving on U.S. airwaves in the mid-80s via syndication, the legendary space opera - one of the very first anime imports -- helped to usher in the multi-billion dollar anime industry and now, through the cult classic curators at A+E Networks Home Entertainment, the influential series will be reborn on DVD. Working in close conjunction with original Robotech producer Harmony Gold, the franchise will be available in a handsomely-designed collector's set featuring all 85 re-mastered episodes of the engaging and dramatic anime classic. Available for $99.95 SRP, the specially-priced 17-disc set ROBOTECH: THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL SERIES will also feature four exclusive bonus discs with more than 10 hours of bonus content - much of which is new to DVD. The deal was brokered by Content Media Corporation, the worldwide distributor of the series.

I just caught that, wasn't Robotech originally going to compete with Transformers or something of the sorts in the 80's, which was about to start its second season, hence why they had to bring over two unrelated series so it could be in syndication?

Not trying to sound nitpicky, but if you're going to hype, at least get your facts right.

  3. Well clearly that statement did exactly what it was suppose to, which is to sidestep the issues with this guy.

What good does being able to take worse insults do?

And the bigger issue is why insist that the people, doing a miserable job at trying to reinvigorate a franchise, use something that so little people are interested in? It's a lose/lose for Southern Cross fans. Which is and always be the case for anyone that has any hopes of new SC anything.

On the subject of being a Robotech fan. Shaorin put in the best way. I'm a fan with no modern interest. I can't undo running home everyday from school to watch Robotech and loving it. But almost immediately I started gravitating to the source material. I think it was seeing even the badly dubbed Clash Of the Bionoids that actually made me want to seek out more Macross. I wached it so many times that the songs DYRL and Angel's Paints video at the end just stuck to everyone's head in my house. Even my mom used to whistle it when she was in the kitchen (that and Social D's Prison Bound :lol) ) And when they released those VHSs with half Robotech and half japanese versions, I tried to collect them. Of course that was the first of HGs of many failures only to be punctuated by the MPC toys, which to me was the death knell of my RT fandom.

I guess I'm kinda lucky that my fandom into macross actually started with Macross 2, instead of Robotech like everyone else. Robotech was never syndicated here. I actually never saw any Robotech until it came on Cartoon Network a few years later. By then I knew of the difference, and had already seen Macross Plus and the uncut, but dubbed DYRL . Right now I'm actually watching through Mospeada, and liking it just as well as the Robotech version.

  4. Did you notice that the clip got taken down on Youtube? I actually got a a rude comment back to me because I said

    Yack Deculture
this is ROBOTECH, so take your "deculture" and put it in your ass

Seriously, why can't RT and Macross fans just get along? I like both. I just like unfiltered Macross more, but I have nothing bad to say about Robotech.

  5. I'll be honest, I don't get what's so important about these audio tracks or what the big deal is in this clip. Might be significant to someone who cares more. But hey, for once footage of a Robotech panel taken by a regular person.

All I see is a $20-$40 asking price for something people might have already, now with digital audio editing.

    Watched and commented :)

  6. I know there is still a small chance of this movie being made, but as WB and other movie companies have been making a lot of these movies with the same type of plot, one's gotta wonder if the fad will die down. Battle Los Angeles was a good movie, and while I'm sure some of the vocal RT fans are still looking into this being the next Robotech movie, I wonder if WB just bought the rights to Robotech so that nobody else would use it. I know they have been toying with the idea of this movie for awhile, but I wonder if they are just doing that to check the viability, and at this point maybe shelve it??? I, personally, hope it doesn't get made. I have no interest in seeing a new incarnation of this, and it just seems like a bad idea all around. If it does get made, I hope it flops. I won't be seeing it.

I am always looking for a good movie to make as tent wood and pitch it...LMAO  This "Tent pole" term seems to be the new secret word for the Robotechies. I'm sure the techies hope that Robotech becomes their tent pole to pitch.

Well, It will be a giant robot movie whenever it gets made, so that alone would give it a vote from me if it ever happens. I personally never got burned on Robotech stuff like you guys have, but I really understand why you all have the negativity though. I would be bitter too if treated like crap from McKeever and co.

  7. Well, other movies have made their ways out of development hell, such as Dungeons&Dragons, the Superman movie that eventually became Superman Returns, Watchmen, Sin City, etc. So, there is a very tiny glimmer of hope that it could happen in the next 5 years, but don't hold your breath. Now let's wait for Memo, Yune, McKeever, or whoever else to copypasta this as their own. Btw hi Kevin!
