  1. First Roy was like Isamu when he was a regular pilot when he gets responsibilities he becomes more adjusted. Basara flys into danger very skill but, you have to push your way through to get there. You fly around in space without looking everywhere you collide. Isamu is a maniac but he is a flying genius. From what I can tell he seems to predict movement by previsualizing patterns of movement via tactile movement his hands. If we're talking dangerous they both are no way they are regular military fighter pilots they don't cover each other of fly in formation. They are both mavericks they move on their own without help. As for helping or saving that is because of spiritia enemies. Even so you can't just enter a battle doing what Basara did it is like singing to a crowd with automatic rifles. No matter how you slice things going into a situation without the means to properly incapacitate an opponent can be deadly for both you and the people you save. You at the very least need to stop the enemy if not kill them. And realisticly without the spiritia plot Basara couldn't hold up against Gavil without back up. Dangerous enemies require help and different types of help in the end even Basara acknowledge the need to have Gamlin at least cover him while he did his thing. I don't even know how we got on this subject anyway wasn't this about whether people liked Basara or not? Better Gubaba?

  2. Dude that is not a bad idea the story is already there character designs maybe add some more story to make the series a bit longer and boom you have what a 5 part OVA or movie. Yeah I could see that I like it and we'd get to see an anime done by hopefully Artland instead of Xebec or Satelight. I always preferred Artland the first Macross always seemed so detailed for the 80's anime at least the good episodes.

  4. This is just a thead on the themes and writing style of Anime in general pertaining to romance. I have my opinions on this subject but will be a impartial observer to the minds at this forum. Please add comments on any anime you see good romance or bad.

    Here are my examples

The first SDFM and of course and the new Romeo X Julliet

Give me some feed back this is just to get interest in the topic. I have no idea what Romeo X Julliet is like but my frame of reference the first Macross series.

  5. I 'll take you up on fate stay zero sounds interesting. Also yeah Rumiko Takahashi seems to add those episodes to get people to watch seems to be a waste sometimes and other times it seems to smooth out other episodes. I' can't say I like everything she writes but at least she isn't clamp( sorry but I feel some of their works manufacture emotions instead of bringing them out).

  6. Dude I was at Comic con when Miyazaki was there it was totally unexpected he came on his own with his translator to unveil Ponyo he gave out tickets to see the Movie so good in theaters dude. Miyazaki was there to send it off for the first time in San Diego. Honestly Ponyo is so hopeful I really hope he does a lot more he is getting pretty old. Also dude give the Castle of Cagliostro a chance great fun to watch even today.

  7. Mason Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahashi I looked at the series she has now some of the better things I've been giving a chance but this one stood out. I feel most of the anime these days that comes out of Japan is becoming too hormone based and the need for a good romance is becoming hard to come by there is no sense of drama some times so I sometimes look at older series for the more human approach to things. I am a bonified computer junkie I do almost everything on my laptop a computer or write on something and there aret times I forget there are other people at the other end of these messages so this one is for the people out there. It is a bit crazy but it reminds me of carefree times going to school and see insane roomates where I live if you want a good laugh this is it.

I highly recommend this as a good watch for any anime fan.

  8. First off Isamu is dangerous but what we see is more an outlaw style he flys as he pleases ala Maverick from top gun or better yet Roy Foker. Basara doesn't have a lot of defense options he needs Gamlin to defend him and his team. let's face it flying style is moot Basara is evasion Isamu is get an opening and kill them two different styles of flying all together. it is almost a moot point of comparison.

  9. The Isamu/ Basara yes they are similar except the only problem is Isamu's comment "If you don't try you don't know" that is it discovery the need to chase a frontier even if it means death he does it anyway. Basara does this similarly but we need to identify or at least be included in his dream and experience it. Isamu we see at the controls and we see valkyries as cool dangerous and just plain an adrenalin rush. The same is for Basara except he is forcing people to listen he is the guy who comes up to you takes out his music and pushes it at you and doesn't give you a choice. I would be different if he was playing like at a concert then yeah people volunteer to show. But life and death in space followed by a song of peace while magical is too dangerous. Confusion may get someone killed, collision might occur some of the reasons we restrict technology in the car is to avoid a distraction. I get his intentions being good but the way he does it is by interrupting people. I agree with a no arms type situation but the road to peace is not paved by people that shove a thought in your head and expect you to follow through. All in all I applaud studio Nu for taing a different road to making a character but maybe a less austentatious method would be preferred.

  10. Anyhoo I just really would like to see more stuff Macross even Macross 7 as long as it is agood story I'm fine with it. Quite frankly some good model promotions might be nice original fan designs maybe a build contest from around the world. Zentradi and Meltran models would be nice maybe some of the more unpopular ones. I looked at some of the kits here and I'd like to see maybe and annual model book that compiles the best builds.

  11. I thought we were discussing Basara wheter we liked him or not not a scifi comparison between Maross 7 and Macross Plus. I feel this may be getting a bit off topic. But in anycase it is interesting um do you both think some of it would be best saved for a AI Vs Macross 7 spiritia thread?

  12. Once again it is motivation which I feel makes Basara a little unbelieveable. Also as a static character he is designed to influence others toward a particular view peace understanding through music. For the audience this can be a problem it for me is not a issue of like or dislike but rather believability. Motivation to be or do something must come from a strong and clear experience to be attracted to or against person event, action. I only say this because well if you think about it he is a pure idea that is why people are attracted to Basara. John Lennon used music much the same way hardship suffering and childhood shaped him into the individual he was. There were experiences and he shared them through song and opened percetion to a new way of viewing the world which at that time( I won't go into the details ). That is what I want a person less idealism it makes them human. This is of course my own opinion we can always agree to disagree.

  13. Dude potentially existing is still a good idea besides it isn't like it is very in this part of the forums dude. Anyhow was just wondering because I saw a game mod from a while a go that was gundam based and was built using an unreal engine I just was wondering if people here have thought to make some mods to existing macross games and make them better. Some oth them have problems lke the Macross Plus game for ps1 I just thought others would like to share their info on game modding to our more interested enthusiasts.

  14. Except Macross 7 is way out there and by hard science I mean something believeable. I mean aliens coming to earth yes Aliens coming to suck spiritia possible but when you start to say our only hope is a rock star that barely speaks and pilots a Giant robot with a face to promote universal love even you have to admit the degrees of believeability start to weigh thin. Look at the first episode he already has his valkyrie and everything then he becomes their only hope ( I don't hate him just feel it is way too out there). Also manipulating people during a concert is unlikely but possible and the build up was believeable enough. It is the steps that gets us there that is hard to swallow. For example alternate universe not Macross Basara would be alright but we have a frame of reference from the first series although it is original and completely different we get the name " Macross" thrown in and there are certain expectations. If the show was called Firebomer then boom no problem that is the nature of the show we as no questions. Dragon ball Z fist time watching it no way you could tell why something happens or why without a frame of reference but if the entertainment is good enough then our sense of disbelief is also lifted. In short we must forget logic and predetermined notions and become caught in the story except the lead is the problem he is as I said vague( at least in terms of what he wants and motivation that is behind the actions he takes). People like it because of the music or the type of action we see but everyone has to face this sooner or later he is not a character he is a aspiration a voice for the creator as a pure voice to his views on war violence and love. Storywise we need to relate like maybe someone died or maybe the UN Spacy covered up an event that could have been resolved with understanding rather than violence. Stuff like that builds an interest we say "yeah I get that" instead we just get him flyng around singing. We just need a better frame of reference Basara wants peace but without a why or relative reason it seems arbitrary no offense.

  15. The EVIL series are biological representations of the mechanical technology that the Protoculture already engineered. We now know that said technology was based on a naturally occuring biological manifestation, i.e. the Vajra. Fold technology, barrier shields, and reaction cannons were all biologically recreated in the EVIL series, and later on a mass-producton scale with whatever the AFOS was. This isn't a concept exclusive to Macross, other sci-fi & anime has touched on bio-mecha for years, both before and after. Take a look at Farscape, a fairly popular sci-fi series, and one which was based highly in bio-technology. The Vorlons & Shadows in Babylon 5 being the higher species of that universe also used bio-technology. Even the recent BSG adopted the concept that bio beats mechanical in the technological hierarchy. - quote from BOMBA!

Take Aura Battler Dunbine had the same concept energy human spirit equals power. Or better yet Escaflowne , I feel it was passed over in Macross 7 it is not a bad series just more mystical than I'd like. Take it this way you go to watch a star trek film and all this hard science stuff happens then boom how you feel suddenly becomes a factor but it manifests itself as a being object power. The point is the transition and quite frankly Basara doesn't really help the concept would be more legitimate if he main character had well"character" he is vague we get what he is saying but really a little more communication and less justdoing whatever would be better. It is not a bad series I like it it just isn't character driven enough. I mean ask what does he do what are his dreams is there something he can accomplish or he is afraid of. I thought we got that when he lost his voice maybe see what he would do if he lost the only thing that gave him his identity. It just did go that way. I like most of the character in Macross Hikaru, Shin, Alto, but Basara is an attempt to take a very complex issue and use personify it but for get to give him a real voice. I really just feel he needs to use more than "listen to my Song" try listen to others and communicate his song.
