Silly jokes aside I’m a little puzzled about the choice of aesthetic for this new container. There are a lot of of way cooler/more interesting designs they could have done for this.

Hey has anyone mentioned the new container looks like a rectal thermometer or pregnancy test haha haha haha
This joke sure is getting a lot of mileage 😛

... it really is kind of frustrating how some of these magazine pieces can write so much and yet say so little of actual worth.
Especially for Delta, where details are painfully sparse as it is.
I've often praised the VF-31A Kairos as the most beautiful of the 5th Generation Valkyries. This new thing? It does not thrill me. I'd have liked to see Kawamori try something different for the big finale of Macross Delta, especially in light of how short the TV series was on original designs and plot elements. It's kind of disappointing to get a real good look at the new enemy VF and see that it looks like a rehash of the SV-51 Battroid.
Between the multi-axis thrust vectoring nozzles and conehead, both of which are basically the General Galaxy/SV Works signature, it kinda sucks all the mystery out of it too.
I was just gonna say, hello SV-51, nice to see you

10 years after catching the second Frontier movie in theaters I finally have a YF-29 I'm satisfied with.
As the YF-29 is a prototype machine that only saw action once before pretty boy trashed it, I kept the panel shading to a minimum to retain its brand new look.
Otherwise, just added a few details and gave her a semi-gloss coat.
Battroid pics
Beautiful photos! Unlikely but I wish the Ozma version got a similar update.

Sorry, should have been more clear. I’m definitely aware of the lineage and production history; I was just referring to the part where the -24 has super specs compared to its siblings.
But since -29 specs are known, and Kawamori is interviewed as saying the -29 was an attempt to exceed -24 specs, that would be enough.

As far as we know, Earth's 5th Generation main variable fighter is the VF-24... the production version of the YF-24 Evolution prototype.
The 5th Generation VFs we've seen in Macross Frontier and later titles - the VF-25, VF-27, YF-29, YF-30, VF-31, etc. - are all derived from the partial/incomplete/redacted blueprints for the YF-24 Evolution that the Earth/Central New UN Forces approved to be shared with the emigrant governments due to the danger of hostile encounters with the Vajra. It has been generally implied that the VF-24 is the highest spec production 5th Generation VF by a significant margin. The YF-29 in particular is said to have been developed in secret to exceed the YF-24 Evolution's performance. That's a hell of an implication for the VF-24's abilities if the YF-29 is how far you have to go in an effort to one-up it.
What’s the source for this?

So this NUNS VF-31:

Does it exist in fiction somewhere or is it created purely for the anime girl fanservice nonsense?

Everyone is always way too quick to jump to assuming things are Protoculture technology... like they did when we got our first look at the VF-27.
My toothbrush is protoculture tech.

Interesting that both those variants are called AX

Thank you. By fast packs are you talking about the super parts for it?
Yep, FAST packs = super parts.
(FAST is an obsolete real world term.)

Their primary business is a moderately successful rental property management operation that manages eleven apartment complexes in the greater Los Angeles area.
That is incredibly bizarre!

I love that cute Godzilla in the background.

Apart from what's been previously stated about facilitating a greater field-of-fire for the main heavy quantum reaction beam cannon and preserving its stealthiness by storing some of its weapons internally, the transformation also makes the ships more maneuverable.
The Macross Quarter-class, for instance, is described as having fighter-like maneuverability despite being a medium-sized warship.
I guess like the AMBAC in Gundam or something. Still seems incredibly inefficient but I guess no more than transforming fighters
-
What’s the in-universe reason for transforming ships after SDF-1? I’d think the Macross classes after that would just be designed so they can fire the gun without all that transforming mechanism taking up space.

Thank you, sir. I guess we're a minority of two. That still beats being the one lonely dissenting voice amidst the cacophony of voices crying, "fighter's too thick!"
I would have been more than fine for a mm or two thicker fighter on the Yamato for better battroid legs. That would’ve been an almost perfect YF-21 toy for me.

So from a few pages ago, this got me curious:
Did Isamu and Myung canonically marry or at least get together post-M+? Because my honest assessment of M+ was that... well, besides it kind of being irrelevant, they didn't.
After M+ they were both accidentally dissolved in a vat of acid they had mistaken for a swimming pool, but their android duplicates did merge programs in a symbolic marriage. So... answer is maybe.

The problem isn't in the frequency of scheduled maintenance... it's in the logistics of stocking variant-specific parts when you're operating six different variants of the same aircraft from the same carrier. Logistically, minimizing the number of variants in concurrent operation is always the best idea.
Exactly why the Frontier fleet thought it needed so many different variants is unclear... since most of them are little different from the base model. A Command variant seems like something done more out of tradition than actual necessity, since the VF-4, VF-11, and VF-171 all got along fine without it.
Right, I’m saying that I’m not sure the 25 parts variance is significantly more onerous than majority of the fighter lines before.

Nope... if that were the case, we'd expect to see them written up along similar lines to the Xaos Valkyrie Works VF-31 Custom Siegfrieds.
The VF-25F, VF-25S, and RVF-25 are written up as production variants.
That’s pretty slim evidence that those would be much more difficult for maintenance regularity than the -31 series.

Because it takes many years for a military to fully transition from using an older model of fighter to a newer one.
Even in 2067, the New UN Government member governments that were early adopters had only recently begun the phased replacement process that would see the 4th Gen (or older?) VFs their New UN Forces were flying gradually retired and replaced with 5th Generation VFs... a process that would easily take a decade or more. Other New UN Government members were still in the process of evaluating prospective 5th Generation main VF candidates and wouldn't have a workable design ready for introduction for years. The Frontier Government's New UN Forces were still in the process of retiring and decommissioning their VF-11's in 2058, ten years after the introduction of the VF-171 and during the evaluation of their 5th Gen replacement for the VF-171. Earth was only just starting the process of adopting the VF-24 in 2059 when the Vajra situation blew up, and both the Macross Frontier emigrant fleet and the Brisingr Alliance were 2-3 years from the start of production on their respective 5th Gen main VFs at the start of their respective series in 2059 and 2067.
Despite a commanding lead, Earth likely won't be finished transitioning its forces to the VF-24 until 2069-2070. That'd be the point where they MIGHT loosen restrictions on the VF-19. Many other governments likely won't finish transitioning to their new fighters until the late 2070s or beyond.
This makes sense, thank you.
-
Why would the VF-19 still be so heavily restricted though? In the years since I imagine you could take a bog standard VF-30 from Brisingr now and do what a -19 did back then and more easily, if published specs are anything to go by.
-
It’s funny he’s still so fixated on a plane that’s out-classed 200-300% in thrust performance by even monkey models in Frontier/Delta era.
-
I’m sure this has been asked before, but...
What do VFs use as propellant in space? Is it same as their reaction fuel?
-
Sorry this has been asked before, but how stiff are the wings on this thing? Do they hold their position well?
