So... I found an interesting detail while I was fact-checking my answer for this other thread:
A lot of you are probably familiar with how many of the companies mentioned in the lore for the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross series are trademark-safe bland names for various real world companies. Chrauler for Chrysler, Viggers for Vickers, Mauler for Mauser, Centinental for Continental, and so on.
It seems that the authors of Variable Fighter Master File decided to come up with an alternate explanation for Stonewell and Bellcom. Stonewell was originally a bland name version of Rockwell International, the now-defunct firm that codeveloped the space shuttle orbiter and owned North American Aviation. Bellcom was originally a bland name version of the Bell Aerospace division (now Bell Textron).
Variable Fighter Master File: VF-0 Phoenix, however, came up with a new explanation for both that makes the VF-1 somewhat more multinational. In its version of events:
- Stonewell is not Rockwell International, it's a OTM-focused joint venture by Lockheed Martin and Daimler-Chrysler Aerospace AG (now Airbus Defense and Space GmbH).
- Bellcom is not Bell Textron, it's an OTM-focused joint venture by Boeing, Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (now Airbus Defense and Space GmbH), and Marconi Electronic Systems (now BAE Systems).
They also mention in passing another company besides Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, and the fictitious Shinnakasu Heavy Industries who participated in the development of the first thermonuclear reaction turbine engines: EuroJet Turbo GmbH and BAE Systems.
Very cool, such detail.

Hi all. Lurker here. Just got my Durandal in and been trying to go through the initial break in transformations.
On to the point. The telescoping barrel on the right side of the back swivel turret gets stuck part way inside the also telescoping radiator shroud. Anywhere past halfway and it starts to get very sticky already. Stopping from that point on is enough to get it jammed very tight and possibly require dangerous amounts of pushing to get it to retract.
I've already scuffed up my fingers trying wear it in by pumping it in and out like an idiot, but probably isn't happening with how durable the plastic is. If it's not my hand that breaks, sooner or later the barrel or the turret's dinky support arm will. At it's farthest, I've pulled it out close to the point where the engraved details at the base of the barrel are still just barely hidden. But retracting it back from that spot took nearly an hour of pure violence...
Anyway, does anyone have tricks to loosen it up, or know how to disassemble the turret so the internals could be cleaned up?
You can pull the barrel completely out, and put it back in. I’ve done it a few times to adjust the tension the way I want it.
DISCLAIMER: I can’t guarantee yours or anyone else’s won’t break… but mine is fine

Well, for Yamato, and I'm sure in part for Arcadia, Macross is a passion, and their attention to the minute details has always been part of the appeal of their toys. They weren't always perfect, but there was still a lot of love put into those things. Bandai's passion is Gundam; all other priorities rescinded. 😁
I was pretty securely onboard with getting the Bandai YF-21 if and when it releases, but with the announcement that Arcadia is reworking their YF-21 to fix the leg proportions, I may just wait on that, as the rest of the toy is par excellence.
Wait what announcement?

The more I look at this, the more it seems one step forward several steps back. Bummer man.

I got mine from Kappa, and boy is it pretty. This is the only plane that I think looks better with the super pack. Everything is tight so far.

Oh awesome, it’s actually happening!

I remember in Macross Plus when Isamu took the YF-19 into fold to get to earth, the craft looked like it was moving in foldspace:
At 32:13 in this video shows what I mean. Not trying to debate you on this Seto, but I'd like your opinion on that part.
They do move all “hyperspacy” plenty of other times on screen as well. Yes I know Seto, documentation says teleport yada yada. 😉

Traveling by space fold doesn't entail any acceleration - or even movement - on the part of the folding ship.
Fold navigation is essentially a form of teleportation. The fold system manipulates higher dimensional space using gravity control so that the volume of space containing the ship switches places with an equivalent volume of space at the destination. Ships typically don't fold into or out of a planet's atmosphere because the gravity well of a planet can mess up the folding process and you're either teleporting a chunk of atmosphere into deep space or creating a massive region of vacuum that'll collapse inside the atmosphere with very destructive effect.)
Although it must be noted that this is depicted inconsistently; some episodes show teleportation, and others show fold space as almost a hyperspace-like phenomenon where they fly into the thing and out of the thing later.

I just watched it and… yeah this s*** makes no sense.
And I’m firmly in the camp of Megaroad-1 should have remained a mystery forever. Ugh.

I too am curious on this, as I do not recall it being quantified how the YF-29B was an upgraded version of the original other than it saying "An upgraded version of the original"

There is no published information other than it’s just better. Don’t even know in what way. (Avionics? Thrust? Firepower? None/all?)

That part is a carryover from the VF-25.
On the VF-25, that's a gunmount where the 25mm beam machine guns or 25mm high-speed machine guns are located. The grille is presumably there to facilitate the gun's cooling system.
On the YF-29, that part seems to be one among many that is shared with the VF-25 as a result of their parallel development and common hardware. There is no gun there, per the YF-29's stats, but the housing seems to have been carried over as a shared part.
I think they were actually referring to the three black marks aft of the gun vents. And the answer, most likely, is stylization.

I seem to recall one or two episodes showing the one of leg/engine sections bent at the 'knee'. Though there's probably only a limited range of movement (it can't 'walk' like a valkyrie).
Or like an Egyptian

Not sure where to find some of his rants anymore. He was definitely unhappy with how his character was handled, but I seem to recall him being unhappy with the production as a whole rather than just his part.
Edit: woops, I thought you said Picardo, not Beltran. Mixed up the Roberts.

I’m not gonna trash the food trucks. There are quite a few really creative and good ones here in so cal. They’ve come a long way since the roach coaches of the past and some are better than a lot of good restaurants.
I agree. The food truck generalization is a bit passé.

I loved the design of the new Stargazer and inclusion of some Star Trek Online ships in the season 2 fleet scene instead of the copypasta ships. I’ve got no comment about anything else.

That ankle joint looks hella thin! Is it metal or something?
It’s metal yeah. The strut itself is pretty sturdy so no worries about snapping or anything.

Sorry bud, for me it was only the ball joint and not the part you circled. I loosened the screws near the ball joint and dropped figure into the cup and re-tightened the screws and it worked well, but I don’t think that will help you ☹️
You could try putting future on that pivot without loosening the screw, tilt back and forth, and see if any of it slides in between the surfaces. Repeat many times.

Use some grippy tape on the canopy and gently lift it up. Works every time when there’s no slack for fingernail and you don’t want to mess up the edges using blunt tools. May I suggest Gorilla brand? 😉
Yeah I used tape to open the first time, shoved pilot in there, and will never open again

Yeah I don't really mind either, just more an oddity that they did it that way.

Okay...so we have a valk that can effectively shoot holes in its' own booster....
"Impressive... even the way it burns up..."
Eject it and immediately ignite it like a giant flare 😝😝

Hmm lineart magic?
It does seem a bit weird that the booster has a hole to accommodate the head laser.
But i suppose arcadia has no choice to design it that way?
Hmm, the lineart has the booster sitting higher up on those white and teal struts, which I don't see on the prototype. Which would leave room for the head laser. Curious.

Honestly with all the fixes that were mentioned in the other thread, I quite like the AX a lot more than I thought I would. The fact that these extensive fixes were needed in the first place though... yeah.

Ok now I'm legitimately tempted to build the chamber behind the nozzle and paint it with one of those paints that Anish Kapoor is not allowed to have
Haha I love this reference but so niche 😝😝

Is the main gun on Battle class ships more powerful than the one on SDF-1?
Secondly, since the offensive capabilities of such a cannon apparently completely outclass the current ships’ defense capabilities, would it make sense that if a Zentradi fleet encountered a Supervision fleet, both sides would annihilate majority of their enemies quickly with such cannons, then mop up what’s left with “conventional” weapons?
