  1. Back to the topic of Convention Panels, has anyone ever put serious thought into an opposition panel? Something like 'RT/HG: The Case Against' or something?

As much as we like calling out Harmony Gold's BS on this thread, I believe the majority of the fandom have no clue who Tommy Yune is and especially the antics Kevin "Send Me Hatemail" McKeever. :(

BTW, would anybody be disappointed if Tommy confirmed there would be no new Mospeada/New Gen-based toys coming out this year? I think someone mentioned it on the RTX boards...

  2. Ssssssh! McKeever might be reading this! He wants to see if the guy who posted that rant is going here and talking about it! Apparently to McKeever and the rest of the Robotech.com regulars, it will invalidate the complaint and make the complainant look like a troll!

Because you know... Macrossworld = WE HATE ROBOTECH YAAAAAARHGHHHH WE ARE SO HIGH AND MIGHTY

  3. Is it wrong that I hope they crash and burn after this clusterfuc#?

WHAT IS THIS CLUSTERFUC% YOU SPEAK OF?

PLEASE CITE EVIDENCE THAT ROBOTECH IS A CLUSTERFUC*.

I WANT EVIDENCE OF THIS. PROVIDE A URL OR ARTICLE TO SUPPORT YOUR ARGUMENT

YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO MAKE ROBOTECH SUPER AWESOME. STOP WHINGING. STOP IT. FANS ARE SO ENTITLED NOW. STUPID STUPID

PLEASE DON'T CALL PEOPLE NAMES BECAUSE IT INVALIDATES YOUR ARGUMENT AND YOU ARE IMMATURE AND YOU MAKE ME EVER MORE AWESOME.

MCKEEVER IS VERY NICE IN PERSON SO IS TOMMY THEY HAVE BEEN VERY FORTHCOMING YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT

PLEASE CITE EVIDENCE ARYYAAHRRAKFAJKLFSAJL; I EAT PUPPIES FOR BREAKFAST

  4. Hey guys and gals, it seems Harmony Gold finally kicked out McKeever after reading that rant. I saw a very ad a day later. Very interesting...

    HARMONY GOLD IS NOW HIRING:

    MARKETING COORDINATOR/PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

    Desired Attributes:

    - must be Glenn Beck devotee

    - must have large ego

    - rude to complaining customers

    - must have history of trolling internet forums

    - must relish in receiving hatemail from fanbase

    - must be New Gen/Mospeada fan

Qualifications seem pretty tough, not sure if they can find a replacement on time. Hope things go well for the company. Best of luck to McKeever on his future endeavors.

  5. A Doom remake? Jesus.

Update on the much-anticipated Red Dawn remake:

Despite filming finishing in 2009 and production already complete (starring upcoming 'Thor' actor Chris Hemsworth as the protagonist Jed Eckert), MGM had a quick and dramatic change of heart, realising a film focusing on Chinese invaders is unlikely to go down well... in China.

Instead, the studio took the unusual step to change the dialogue and alter all Chinese references to North Korean in a post-production digital overhaul.

  6. ...I think what's funny, is the assumption that Robotech is going to be this big time movie that's automatically going to give any director high credibility, and put them all the way to A+ directors. For all we know, and since speculation seems to be going one way in the fandom, perhaps the director saw the project, and saw a big pile of crap...

The director saw the pitch and exclaimed "This is going to be my Prince of Persia, my Battlefield: Earth!"

WHY I AM GLAD THIS GUY DECIDED TO CHICKEN OUT. I REALLY DID NOT CARE FOR THIS GUY. HE CAN GO BACK TO DOING HIS EMO MOVIES.

Bravo, number one Robotech fan! You truly are shining pride of this fandom. Let it be said that any good director that turns down this silly cartoon movie is a pussy and doesn't deserve a career in Hollywood!

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't a director that actually knows how to direct his actors benefit the character-driven, angsty Robotech story?

I kind of want a director to be named so we can get Shadow Rising, even if it sucks, so the story continues.

Be careful what you wish for.

  7. I woke up this morning and realized we're giving this Robotech animated project 2011 way too much attention than it deserves. All I know is I'll watch it once after I get off bittorent and that's that.

Rumor has it the new animation is going to be shoehorned with Long Live Alive. Multiple flashback sequences. The whole shebang. How exciting. It's like the property is stuck in some kind of weird limbo...

  8. ...they got themselves a Twitter feed, but that's about it...It's always something to the effect of "Why would we spend money on something that doesn't make us any money?"

It's not so much Robotech's "official" twitter account as it's a virtual trip around McKeever's ego/mind.

    # Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles is currently sold out in the Robotech.com store. #anime #amnga #cosplay #DCNation

    # A look at Kev's hotel room in San Fran. #AODSF http://twitpic.com/417asq

    # We have mostly a new crowd for this panel.

    # Robotech Animation will be COMPLETED in 2011. No release date yet.

    # Tommy now discusses how CG tech has improved. Fans commenting on animation.

    # For 90% of the #Robotech fans in the audience this is the first time they are seeing this footage. #anime #manga #cosplay

    # TOMMY: "You will see the consequences of Zor's legacy" in the new animation.

    # The new animation clip was only shown once.

    # The Robotech panel has no ended! Fans were very happy to see the new animation.

    # We are getting reports that the debut of the new #Robotech animation at #AODSF is causing quite a stir.

There's a recent tweet about Harmony Gold's office's "coffee table books", which unsurprisingly consists of Robotech books. I brought this up because voice actor Richard Epcar actually commented on the image:

That's all very nice, now where's our new movie?

I can't agree with you more, sir. Hey McKeever, if you're reading this, why not cut the BS?

Have you seen the size of the convention halls? With the exception of AX and Comic-Con (and probably NY Comic-Con), there's like 20 people sitting in those rooms.

Let me correct you there. Those are 20 paying customers. Something only narrow-minded McKeever understands.

Once on the forums, like 5 years ago I said "From what I know of this business, this is not the norm." He's since used the phrase "People who 'know this business'" over and over since then. A while back, someone on the forum even asked "Why do you keep saying that and who are you talking about?" It's really odd, but he still takes professional jabs at me. Kevin took over my old blog (robotechnews.blogspot.com), which is bizarre onto itself, and there are subtle professional jabs at me there.

Yikes... Do you have a feeling he thinks everyone who questions the way the franchise is run on Robotech.com is you in disguise? What a strange little man.

I did notice he took over that blogspot position. At first I couldn't believe he was running it, but after putting two and two together, I've got a bad feeling he's got this mad, demented hard-on for you. What I want to know is why Tommy Yune condones this weird, antisocial behavior.

Anyway, there is an off-shoot topic brewing about in Robotech.com if anyone's interested. The question: Who are the "enemies of Robotech"? Who are the competition of the property? Notice how the hardcore seem to disregard the past success of Japanese Macross, but also disregard TMNT, GI Joe, Transformers, He-man, and even Voltron! Crazy times we live in.

  9. Kevin's next accomplishment was creating "Robotech Convention Tour" which in itself was no small feat. Getting conventions to fly you out (or convincing the company you're working to do it) is not easy, and I think there is a certain amount of credit to be given for that.

But that also seems to be his crutch. Not only is he defending the company that signs his paycheck, he's defending what seems to be the biggest accomplishment he's made at that company. He's defending the marketing model he's built. When a fan talks about there not being enough buzz, it's a standard fan thing said online that he takes as both a personal and professional attack.

Attack the cons, attack McKeever. That explains a lot.

That, and he's left defending a model that itself is horrible, way of actually getting your product exposure (in my professional opinion).

So you're saying that filling up a convention hall doesn't always translate to high sales? :(

When Kevin mentions his competitors from 2006, that's actually a direct referral to stuff I said back then. I mentioned how Superman Returns actually showed stuff online, did a ton of viral stuff and really got people excited and talking. Kevin then loved to point out how the movie bombed. The movie didn't get the money they wanted from the box office, but through the international box office, home video , TV syndication and merchandising - it made crapload of cash.

Also, when he refers to people who "know this business," he's referring to me. And he likes to point out how wrong "they" (me) were back then. He took my criticisms back then as extremely condescending and really personal. But then again, I must have no idea what I'm doing, seeing as how I've been promoted three times since I've met Kevin and make as much as his boss (from what I've heard).

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold it, darkwater. You're saying that his tirade against one fan is actually directed as some petty professional grudge against you? And despite being redeemed by the evidence you presented, and he ignored it and went ballistic? Wow. I guess some people don't change.

The funny thing is, back when I was wided-eyed fan who just wanted to help the franchise, I actually sat down to dinner with Kevin and Tom once to tell them things like "use your website" and "try viral marketing" and "post things online" and "yeah, conventions aren't going to reach as many people as online."

It's no secret McKeever has done a lot to "fight off" the internet. There hasn't been ZERO effort to update their website since its inception. No integration of social media, no significant new content, nothing. One could easily give the argument that "if it ain't broke, don't fix", but that's bull in 2011. There have been threads where he stated that the internet represents a minuscule part of their marketing operations. Well, look at Kevin Smith and the empire he's grown with his podcasts. Look at self-marketed properties throughout Youtube, twitter, etc. As Tom Bateman said earlier, Robotech has become one big wasted opportunity. Dated business models, narrow minded marketing and creative directors, the list goes on.

Nothing wrong with hiring fans but pick from the moderates. Taking a zealot is a risk.

This may be true, but why haven't they officially put Memo or Mav_LSC on their payroll yet? Both have done more than their share of free promotions...

  10. Oh, and Chrisk, I totally agree, I laughed so hard at all this when it first came to my attention, I nearly had the water I was drinking get spit out.

In the end, all this drivel of demanding proof is moot. What matters is if Harmony Gold can deliver anything NOTABLE on time! I hate to break it to you McKeever, but people make up "conspiracy theories" because none of the three stooges in Harmony Gold has a shred of integrity and honesty :(

(All this distrust stems from all the decades long legal troubles with Japan as well)

In 80's revival news, thanks to rtsurfer (one of the few active, sane fans):

The Feb 11th series premiere of Transformers Prime was the HUB's best-ever series premiere with a huge rating increase for its time period. G.I.Joe Renegades also delivered solid rating gains. Both series had strong rating increases the following week.

Transformers Prime is reaching over 1 million viewers each week.

Each week the first airing of Power Rangers Samurai is reaching around 3 millions viewers. Repeat viewings during the week are drawing similar viewer numbers.

"A Bidding War Breaks Out to Finally Make a Big-Budget Voltron"

    At Vulcan, http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/03/voltron_movie.html

Voltron facebook announced some new merchandising deals today. VIZ Media will create Voltron Force Manga Comics, Dynamic Forces will create Classic Voltron Comics & Graphic Novels, and Rubie's Costumes will create Halloween Costumes. Clothing, swimwear, and sleepwear is also in development.

Wow, how times have changed! I thought What was McKeever saying about their competition all filing for bankruptcy?

Anyone taking bets on whether this brave new, allegedly full-length animated "sidequel" will be released in 2011??

  11. I was there at Anime Expo 2010 when Tommy mentioned that due to Shadow Rising being put on hold for whatever reason, Carl gave them the idea to put new story out in other forms. Thus, it was the 2011 prject. Then, from the rt.com Kevin rant, he basically says that isn't true. So, either Kevin is a fat liar, or he's an idiot for not knowing what page everyone else is on, or a little of both.

    Hah...

wow what a crazy day at the rt.com site. i was asked to provide proof to support my statements and did so. then, when that proof upset Kevin he goes on a tirade and doesn't even give me a chance to respond? and worse, i'm threatened with banning for simply doing what i was asked to do.
There must be no boss at Harmony Gold. Either that or is Tommy Yune the CEO or president now? How can Kevin keep his job after throwing a tantrum like that to the public?

    Hahahahaha...

If you are going to run around and say I'm lying offer no proof to back up your claim then run to another website asking for anything to help back up our claim then yeah you are just trolling.

Also when you mock NDA's and call them "excuses" well you are vastly ignorant of what they are,how they work and what happens if you violate them.

Your posts have been along consistently negative and now you are accusing me of lying.(yet cant come up with a even one example and have to run to another site to find one)

If you are going to run around and say I'm lying offer no proof to back up your claim then run to another website asking for anything to help back up our claim then yeah you are just trolling.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Frist off your video of Steve does not show any lie. Secondly I have to find the quote where Steve says WB has blocked any animation.

To us ALL Robotech animation is important. Y

In trying to accuse me of lying yet you are now changing your statements around to try to give some sort of cover to your trolling.

You simply cant do that here. I'm going to lock this thread.

If you continue to troll like this you will be banned.

HAHAHAHA HO HO HO HO HO HO HEE HEE HEE HAR HAR HAR HAR!!

...holy CRAP that was a long rant on his part. That was farting mind-blowing!! LOL.

You've got to remember that Kevin started out as a forum troll back in the early days, so it'd make sense that he would continue that. Someone once sent me a bunch of links to Aint it Cool News where he'd rant like crazy, telling everyone how much he hated Miramax (I never got why), and THEN he'd put his email address at the end requesting people send him hate mail.

And one thing you notice is that when he stresses SR is still in development - we're coming up on FIVE YEARS of this being in development (RSC was completed in 2006 even though it was released in 2007). This five years has surpassed RSC's development of approx 4 years (2002 - 2006).

    HAHA---*faints from exhaustion*

  12. Hey ahch... I mean ps99042, why are you making the McKeever mad? Can't you see it's giving him undue stress? For all you know the guy has hypertension, or bad cholesterol. Look at what you did. Just look, you heartless bastard. McKeever whipped out the "Live Action movie is still in development by Tobey Maguire and writter by Lawrence Kasdan card". See? You might've made him constipated.

And what is this issue about Robotech being relevant in this day and age? Do you not see his flawless argument? Do you not see that this demand by fanboys, to see this convention-exclusive clip and concept art on the internet, is irrefutable proof that Robotech is and will forever be relevant? So you, and the rest of the so-called "enemies of Robotech", should CEASE AND DESIST. You are doing irreperable harm in Harmony Gold's efforts to secure a new distributor, funding, or whatever! How dare you, sir? How dare you.

They have the blessing of Warner Brothers. They have remained top-of-mind, this is Robotech, dear friends. So burn your tinfoil hats. Throw away all your preconceived notions about this once thought to be stagnant property. You were warned. McKeever will make you his b*tch.

  13. If everybody will turn their attention to Robotech.com's "Robotech Production" subforum, there is a very interesting discussion going on.

It's doubters versus the hardcore fanboys, and Kevin McKeever decided to join the party! One of the highlights is McKeever mocking current fanboy beliefs such as:

#1 That WB prevented Harmony Gold from producing animated movies

#2 That once again, Shadow Rising is "still in production"

He goes on by saying that they have been investing their money very wisely, and that this new animated movie is a "brand new direction" for the franchise. He claims that while their competitors have blown their money in money-losing ventures and gone out of business, Robotech the property is surprisingly robust, and they have full blessing (and backing?) of Warner Brothers.

He said that there is nobody preventing the production of new Robotech material, and that its all one big, stupid conspiracy cooked up by blah blah blah.

It's very strange to hear McKeever speak of what he claims is "the truth". How much of the facts has been twisted to make Hamony Gold look good? I've noticed in the past that he can be very inconsistent and almost stupidly hardheaded.

One fan, whom I believe will banned soon, has called out McKeever on a number of occasions. Their little back and forth is quite humorous.

Peronally, I doubt a Lancer Dancer sidestory is a "new direction" worth in this day and age. But who knows? The biggest question is, will the f***ing CG be good?

  14. wow, I totally disagree! LOVED the ending, and unlike many films i could tell who was fighting who and what was happening.

That's cool. I had a buddy who was raving about it as well. Who knows? They green-light a sequel for this already? It's not doing so well at the box office. I heard Percy Jackson is getting one and that was an even worse film!

  15. I don't know what you're talking about, ep III is the best SW movie! As for Blade Runner, I like this news for one reason. I hope it prompts Kojima to give us the ultimate in next gen action/crime scene investigation sci-fi cyberpunk games, i.e. a remake of Snatcher.

Hell yes, I'd like to revisit Neo-Kobe. The recent tech demo of the latest incarnation of the Unreal engine makes me wanna shout at Kojima to JUST DO IT.

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/03/very-real-epic-reveal-next-gen-unreal-tech/

  16. And then there is the ending. WOW id they save their budget for the finale! the last 20 mins or so are GREAT Sci fi/Super powers action, and worth a matinee or rental of the film if nothing else is!

So yeah I dug it. It was a good simple action flick, just what I wanted.

I was forced to watch it. It was okay until... that last bit in the school.

God, it was such a mess. Kinda reminded me of the mind-numbingly bloated CG-overkill of Transformers 2. Surprisingly enough, the producer was Michael Bay. Can't believe my friends passed Black Swan for this...

  17. There's good and bad in this.

Bad: Blade Runner, IMO, was quite good. Very hard to come out with a decent sequel after that. Especially decades after the original. Whoever takes up on this project will have their hands full. I just hope they don't use the original movie's characters, namely Deckard and Rachel.

Good: The setting. Hollywood doesn't really do this kind of setting often. In a way, even though they're following a well received movie from back in the day, they have quite a bit of a free hand.

I thought the look of Minority Report was the "evolution" of the dystopia punk aesthetic. Or A.I.? Or I, Robot? Ugh. Now that I think about it, maybe it is good they bring the king back. The interweb's been going crazy over the the past few hours regarding this...

Maybe they can do an Indy 4 and bring back Deckard. Eh? Eh? See? He wasn't a replicant!

    http://news.google.com.ph/news/more?q=blade+runner&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&ncl=dgxNTIX7VKpKEdMHf_pasjSVnZqMM&ei=RmBwTcvVIJCycZTx4fgC&sa=X&oi=news_result&ct=more-results&resnum=1&ved=0CCsQqgIwAA

  18. The iconic science fiction film Blade Runner, based on a book by Philip K. Dick and directed by Ridley Scott, will be followed up with sequels and prequels soon. Variety reports that Alcon Entertainment is in final discussions to secure film, TV and franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels based on Scott's 1982 science fiction masterpiece. Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, the film producers from Alcon negotiating for the rights, told Variety they're in the early stages of sorting out how to proceed and were not sure if Ridley Scott would be involved.

    Whatever happens, we're doomed.

    http://sciencefictionworld.com/films/science-fiction-films/734-blade-runner-sequels-and-prequels-happening.html

At least they're bringing back cyberpunk??

  19. It has to be seen to be believed. Seems ps99042 and rtsurfer are having a little "gentlemanly discussion" with tweedledumb and tweedledumber at ol' RobotechX boards. It's the one you've heard a million times, but still good fun to read in the office! It's like watching one of those surreal Stephen Colbert interviews, where the straight man interviews some narrow-minded tool.

Here's an excerpt from their riveting debate:

MEMO: THAT HG IS STILL MOVING ALONG IS PROOF ENOUGH YOU FAILING IN YOUR ARGUMENT.

    http://www.robotechx.com/forums/4-robotech-classic-tv-series/12833-robotech-animated-movie-2011.html?limit=10&start=130

What are you waiting for? Drop on by RobotechXTREEME dot com.

I'm not sure if this was discussed earlier, but did McKeever really say this?

At this time the ONLY way for fans to see the new footage is on the Robotech Convention Tour. If the Robotech Convention Tour goes to a convention anywhere in the world fans who attend will be able to see it.

If you want the Robotech Convention Tour at a convention near you tell your local conventions you want the tour to make a stop at their show to get your business.

And that he recently posted this on the Robotech facebook?

The next chance to see the new Robotech animation will be at Tekkoshocon located at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA on March 31 - April 3rd, 2011. Pre-register at the Tekkoshocon website today.

And then you get a quote like this during the discussion board:

I'm not too upset about not seeing the footage since Memo said it's so short and not worth the convention entry fee.

So... is Memo shooting himself in the foot here? If Robotech's staunchest fanboy can't even get hard for this pencil test, why should anybody else care?

CAN SOMEONE MAKE SENSE OF THIS MESS?!

But, wasn't at one point a rumor that HG was going to try to bring Mac 7 over here, edit it around so that Gamlin is the main character, and put it in the RT universe?

    Stranger things have happened...
