  1. To be honest, the anime market in the western world is shrinking, seeing how Media Blasters and Bandai Entertainment are no more. I wouldn't say that Macross would be a shot in the arm, but it could help.

Largely because the Western World is going too poor to afford Japanese imports in general. Just look at how much purchasing power western currencies have lost against Japanese Yen in the last 5 years:

  2. With the news of Toynami shrinking in size with the letting go of Daisuke, the guy who sculpted the Robotech toys, I wonder if they're moving on from doing more of the toys?

Unfortantly it sounds like Toynami is downsizing just to try and survive like Bandai, Mediablasters, etc.

Doubt CN would show anything that wouldn't cater to the stoner crowd.

Too bad Robotech doesn't have anything like mystic plants, space crabs that invade earth to reverse global warming, or "We will Win Get High" to cater to such a demanding audience.

  3. Personally, I think it's hilarious that Doug Bendo has restricted me from giving feedback on not one, but ALL of his podcasts.

...guess I'm pretty scary, huh? Poor guy...

You are like the Ron Paul of Macross fandom. He can't face you in a fair debate so he pretends you don't exist.

And it must be 3 hours long. And about your ban. Disecting every little detail...down to the pixel.

Too boring. Make it a short, hot-blooded, in-your face, screaming rant. :D

  4. Even if their were English subs, would Blu-ray honestly do anything to improve the video quality of an anime TV series from 1982? (honest question coming from someone who has yet to see the need for a Blu-ray player).

It most certainly would under Bandai's remastering skills. Bluray video can store richer color and contrast levels that is impossible for DVD encodes.

  5. This is why they changed it. Freiflug88's post back here pretty much says it. If they're selling nostalgia, I'm sure many of us never had 5.1 surround sound back in 1985.

I'd also like to add I just tried Tom Yune's suggestion and it WORKS. So if the Remastered 5.1 audio track bothers you just turn your sound system to MONO and Bingo your back to the original Robotech audio from the 80s.

  6. This is pretty much a confirmation that they "did" import the audio tapes to remaster them, and did share them with HG. Which means against all sane reason, they chose "not" to use it for both ADV's Macross & robotech remastered. WTF were they thinking?

ADV used the very same remastered source footage and audio from Animego. The ADV Japanese track is the remastered 2 channel audio copied right out of the Animego DVDs minus the separate tracks for fandubbers. Its only the English track was given completely different SFX because the monotracks from 1982 don't work on today's 5.1 audio.

As for Harmony Gold they are pretty adamant that Robotech was not and will never be just “an English dub of Macross.” Its a completely different show with its own unique SFX so forget about Rick Hunter's Veritech ever “sounding” like Hikaru Ichijo's Valkyrie.

  7. Honestly...who cares about the Robotech sound effects when the REAL Macross voices, sound effects, and music can all be heard on DVDs from both AnimEigo and ADV?

Just clearing up the conspiracy theories about what HG did with the "missing" Robotech audio. The Macross audio is frankly an old story I have read thousands of times on this thread.

Q: I was pleased to see a remastered DVD series come out ... I'm trying to understand why so many of the classic Robotech sound effects had been completely replaced by new sound effects.

A: Robotech Remastered features new 5.1-channel audio with new surround sound tracks to take advantage of the latest home theater systems. However, the original monaural effects are still layered under there. For fans who prefer the nostalgia of the 1985 broadcast, sound engineer Bob Lacivita has recommended turning down the stereo and surround channels on 5.1 sound systems, leaving on only the center channel which mostly contain the original sound and vocal tracks (though there may be some bleed through from the surround channels). As a compromise, we also recommend leaving on the sub-woofer to keep the impact of some of the ambient rumble effects.

  9. It makes perfect sense to me. Yune & co actually "hate" the robotech fanbase, and they're doing all they can to make sure that lthey don't procreate. You can be damn sure any female in the vicinity of a man owning such a CD would defend her eggs from ever coming into contact with his seed.

You should have seen Yune at Anime Weekend Atlanta last September. At closing ceremonies he joked to the audience how lucky they were to have so many female fans attend cons because "back in his day" the only girl he ever saw at conventions was... his own sister.

  10. I prefer Robotech Tea Party Movement myself, thank you very much.

For the record I meant it as a numbers joke not a political joke.

Personally I like to call'em the Robofellars and Robochilds of the RWO

I personally like saying I'm a Macross fan because it pisses off Robotech fans.

I hear you. I like to say "I'm a Macross fan that enjoys a HUGE selection of Japanese imports," every time Robotech fanboys I know lament about lack of new stuff from HG. ;)

(Including one who, whenever he talks about me, has to use an effeminate, "faggy" voice, despite the fact that my voice is deeper than his. But that's how he rolls, I guess...he's got to build his self-esteem wherever he can, right...?)

Its your cute "effeminate" avatars of Misa and Minmay that is to blame for the false impression. All you need is Haruhiko Mikimoto artwork that is more butch like say Veffidas. :p
