  1. One could argue that Batman Gotham Knight is "anime" that was commissioned by WB. I got the idea that WB has zero plans of distributing Macross series themselves in America and justed wanted to negotiate with Big West over the Macross designs for LAM. One thing I have been considering is that HG has given up on the Robotech franchise and just wants to bank in with a mainstream Robotech LAM and leave the Robotech franchise at that. Keep in mind Tommy and Kevin are just the figureheads that we deal with it on Robotech.com, the high-ups at HG probably don't give a damn about Robotech when they have more success with their live action catalog and real estates deals. The heads of HG surely wouldn't think twice about letting Big West have the Macross trademarks in exchange for allowing WB to produce a Live Action Robotech: Macross Saga trilogy that could make much more money for them in several years then continuing Robotech: The Shadow Series at a snails pace ever will. Plus, its not like HG has put the Macross trademarks to any real use except for selling a few Macross toys on there website. As for Macross providing some competition from Robotech, I would say that is an understatement. Robotech animation doesn't have anything against its Macross counterparts. Anime fans will watch Macross Frontier because its an interesting show on its own, where as fans will watch Shadow Chronicles out of either nostalgia and/or out of curiosity. The writing is on the wall that the Robotech monopoly is in legal terms only, the reality is that due to the usual fansub channels anime fans are choosing Macross over Robotech. What I meant, and I sure JasonC means as well is that HG and WB are hoping for a Macross Saga trilogy by ironing the legal issues out with Big West. We never said they were definitely making a Macross Saga trilogy.
  2. We all are until the Robotech Forever footage is leaked twelves years from now and blows all our expectations away. Everyone knows that everything on the Internet is free and 90% trash.
  3. Alot more so on Battle Angel since its actually based from an anime series. Cameron's Avator is its own original sci-fi story that in his own words is based on "every single science fiction book I read as a kid." ~http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(film) Unlike Robotech or Battle Angel there is no established fan base or early material to draw from for a film like Avatar. The directors James Cameron and Chris Nolan though have both made the highest grossing films in history: Titantic and The Dark Knight. Planned properly though I think a Robotech LAM could easily be made cheaper then Avatar's $200 million budget if big name actors are not casted. Most of Avatars budget is being spent on motion capture CG to turn the actors into CG aliens like this: http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2007/11/avatar_...exy_dayglow.php. As for Robotech portraying humans as giants is a snap thanks to green screens and animating rigid objects in space realistically like mecha and battleships is a lot easier then animating CG aliens.
  4. None taken. While my friend has never lied to me, I have nothing to go by on the reliability of his source plus I figured it was old news when my friend told me that the last time he talked to the HG Staff was nearly a year ago. I do believe though that the WB negotaitons for rights over making a loyal adaption of the Macross saga is accurate was HG's plan with great expectations, but its actual success is another story. If BW has indeed turned down the offer over Macross rights and licensing then I doubt there is little that WB can do as well. Personally considering that the last time WB spend millions to stay as loyal as possible to look of the source material they got Watchmen which was an utter failure with the mainstream audience I think that WB will either shoot for a readaption of Robotech to avoid legal conflict or pack up rather then continuing to fight for rights. Move makers go by the dollar signs and consider Dragonball Evolution and Transformers a financial success thanks to a large fanbase going to the theaters. In Robotech's case I think having a small fanbase amoung younger fans could be taken advantage of. Rather then trying to stay loyal to the source material of the cartoon that few remember from the 80s all WB has to do is make and market it as BSG with fancy transforming fighters and ships. Hardcore RT and Macross fans will complain, but sci-fi fans hungry for mpre BSG might flock to theaters.
  5. Same here. I am also hoping that Chris Nolan steps in and directs Robotech. According to an earlier statement by Chuck Roven, Chris Nolan wants to film Robotech in IMAX. Considering his great application of the Batman Mythology to Begins and the Dark Knight I definitely want him to do the Robotech LAM. Hopefully he has watched the Macross SDF and DYRL to see how the "Real Robotech Creators" portrayed things ex, the Itano Circus. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to see an itano circus in IMAX!
  6. They changed Mikimoto's charater design. No wonder Robotech has gone down the drain. Mess with Mikimoto's designs and god will smite thee according to the guys at Destroy all Podcast. Its funny how Robotech has drastically changed their charaters to act out of charater such as forcing Lisa the military girl to quit while Macross on the other hand simply says they flew off into the sunset The End... npw lets introduce some new orginal charters. A close friend and I were actually discussing this the other day, more so about how the future of Robotech lies on the LAM. According to a HG staffer he knows (he wouldn't let me know who, but I do trust my friend) for the LAM the plan is:to do a trilogy about the war (and possibly reconstruction) with the Zentradi. Whats more they hope to this with the designs and story as close to the original Robotech: The Macross Saga. In the words of my close friend "They want to make a Live Action DYRL trilogy except with the name Robotech." We all know about the dispute between BW and HG. Well according to my friend's source HG is trying to put WB smack dab in the middle of negotiations and are considering exchanging several trademark rights in exchange for rights for designs and story in the LAMs. Supposedly the biggest worry isn't about BW agreeing to negotiate with WB, but about the guys at WB deciding that the Robotech movie isn't worth the legal trouble and scraping the project.
  7. I think the naming of Macross Frontier's Skull Squadron came from Birla. He was obsessed with finding Minmay and the Megaroad so it would be no surprise for him to name the squad after the Skulls or even have a Replica of Hikaru's Red VF put on the school that taught recruited pilots such as Michael and Luca. Plus considering that Bilra was able to create his own private mercenary group trusted to carry weapons of mass destruction such as the Macross Cannon and nuclear armaments, getting the rights to the Skull Squadron name wouldn't be an issue. SMS does support this as well. In episode 7 Macross Quarter is shown to have Brown VF-25s being locked down for transformation and a large number of them as Escort in part of Episode 25 as the Captain gives his rallying speech. Like in SDF:M though only the head Squad leader and his personal team of 3 get the main attention of the series, but none of the less the "Brownies" most likely form the rest of MF's Skull Squadron.
  8. "Initiating automatic defense sequence. Retrofire locked on target." Sounds like EVE is even better then Louie's Pupil Pistol, except when she drives you insane singing the "Future is Now." That solves the mystery of why Lisa wasn't in Shadow Chronicles. HG at least had enough sense to not show the redesign Tommy Yune made of Lisa as a three armed freak after watching "Force of Arms" (Ep 27). The time travel loop idea was Macek idea originally and was incorporated in part into McKinney's novel "End of the Circle" from what I heard.
  9. No, the "End of Circle" of Robotech is a Stable Time Loop: "Through Applied Phlebotinum, Functional Magic, or some other means, our heroes travel back to the past. In the past, they wind up being responsible for the very events that underpin their own "present." This creates a chicken-and-egg scenario, in which the looping sequence of events has no clear beginning." http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StableTimeLoop
  10. Corg and all the Inbit HAD green blood in Mosepedia, in Megazone 23 everyone bleed red blood. Besides if the blood color was changed the green blood would have been painted over red just as the second moon in Southern Cross was painstakingly airbrushed out for several shots. For the final the green blood would have stayed to get past censorship. Blood was only censored if it was red, so several sci-fi movies and series would use Green blood when a monster or alien would bleed to get around censorship. I was going by the anime. Having the Protoculture fuels cells manufactured by Invid would only introduce more contractions such as the RDF need to enslave Invid for protoculture production instead of simply finding the SDF-3. Regardless, of where humanity got protoculture from, if the Macross Saga ships were established to be Fusion powered then lack Protoculture shouldn't be an issue. Shadow Chronicles should have had General Reinheart stating that every ship in the fleet would have to be downgraded to the old fusion engines to persevere their two year supply of Protoculture. Come to think of it things would have been alot different if the Macross just vaporized in the atmosphere rather then impacting the Earth like a meter: 1. No Unification war or United Government 2. Ichigo would never have met Misa or Minmay 3. Roy would have settled with Aries and the two of them would most likely of died from lung cancer from inhaling Cigeratte smoke and Hybercarbon space alloy in the atmosphere. 4. Shin would live a normal life, but never meet Sara or the Bird Human. 5. Saddest of all their would be no Battleoid or Gerwalk modes, only Tom Cruise in a regular F-14 fighter. 6. When the Zentradi finally arrive Tom Cruise would shout "all hail Xeno," then he would sing "You've Lost That Feeling" to Milia, follow her into the bathroom, and get shot down in a dogfight with her because Maverick's F-14 can't transform. In the Robotech Universe WWIII consumes the world in a nuclear apocalypse several days after the SDF-1 vaporizes to pieces in the atmosphere, and the Zentradi, Masters, and Invid commit mass suicide when they discover their whole reason of existence is now in ashes. Zor sreams dam you Protocultrure! This isn't how the circle is supposed to end! as he fades from existence.
  11. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came to my mind as well when I thought of Zentradi miners. Just think of the hilirous parody they could make with "Minmay and the Seven Giants" complete with that Old Sour Puss as the wicked witch. I remember Roy stating in Robotech episode 5 that the VFs nuclear fusion engines could run on any fuel. The protoculutre fuel though is also a tangled mess in the Robotech cannon. On one hand humanity is supposedly oblivious to the existence of the Protoculture matrix until Dana Sterling and the 15th squad find it blossoming in the SDF-1 ruins. On the other hand: 1. In Robotech the Sentienels, a new Protoculture Matrix is made for the SDF-3 from protoculture of the SDF-1. 2. Bodolza orders his fleet of 4 million Zentradi battle space SUVs to destroy the Earth and the universe's last gas tank of Protoculture, the SDF-1. 3. Kyron's troops don't get drunk they get high off of protocutlture and later steal a protoculture reactor to fuel there ship that is so low on Protoculture that the lights barely work. 4. If humanity did make due with Fusion technology before using Protocultre fuel cells in the New Generation, then losing the Protoculutre Matrix on earth wouldn't be an issue just pull out the old fusion engines out of storage or build new ones.
  12. So is cleaning thrown monkey poo out of servers
  13. You have become that which you have fought against. How does Zentradi junk going meteor on a dead empty planet cause any bigger probelm then beating a dead horse? A whole ship in decent condition might be to survive re-entry, but the one blasted to bits would get vaporized in free fall. To me it only looked like Kyron's fleet folded out. Those countless ships surrouding the flagshp were vaporized in the massive blast caused by the Omni directional barrier overload. Still after a battle with 4 million plus ships odds are really good there would be plenty of usable parts left over.
  14. He must of forgotten about the Zentradi factory and I am sure destroying a fleet of 4 million giant-sized space ships is gonna leave plenty of scrap metal. I will admit it is kind of annoying to see some Zentradi be DYRL freakish green while others look plain human in Macross sequeals espessially when Macross DYRL is considered an in universe fictional drama. Trust me a lot of Robtoech fans take pleasure in screwing with Seto. I actually joined Robotech.com first and figured Seto as a know it all jackass who liked to toy with Robotech fans.
  15. No the movie used no Mospeda footage only Megazone 23 and Southern Cross footage. Here is the ending of the movie on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZHjiDraOu4. Fast forward to the fight at 5:40 and see if this is indeed the fight scene you were thinking. You will notice that it has obviously been censored as the villian Anders is only shown shown screaming before some random explosions are put in the next frame. Considering all the ultra violence of Megazone 23 its not surprising that Carl Macek would censor the scene for this PG Robotech movie, funny thing there supposedly was still a huge uproar by the Houston community of this violent cartoon movie. Also wanted to point out that the future is now and there is no better time to come get in line. Never read the novel. The TV scene works great by not actually showing any blood on the seat as a Hitchcock-inspired suspense effect. All the viewer sees is the mechanics faces light up in shock before cutting to Roy playing a tune on the guitar. Its only after we see the bloody bullet holes in his back that we mentally conjure up images of the cockpit covered with blood which is way better then anything that could be shown. Its also why books are always better then watching your imagination torn apart by a movie adaption.
  16. Ever heard of Sandy Frank, Haim Saban, or Ted Turner? Their not 30ft tall billionaires, but they have brought plenty of asian shows adaptions to US shores. Unfortunately, when their companies get their hands on an asian show they only release an edited and US adapted product for Broadcast that is little different from HG's Robotech. I say all of us Macross fans should just ban together and gather a bunch of money to buy all of Harmony Gold animation department and licenses. Then we turn around and sell it to Big West on the terms that they every single piece of Macross Merchandise that has or will be released in Japan must also be released in the USA, Europe, etc. That "missing" Mosepeada scene shown only in Houston is actually from Robotech: The Movie using the alternative ending from Megazone 23. I for one though was expecting to see blood in Roy's Valkyrie when I watched Macross for the first time. Then again I was also expecting Episode 25 "Virgin Road" to have been heavily edited when I heard the guys on Destroy All Podcasts quoting Max as telling Milia "This is a penis."
  17. I remember Robotech being shown on Toonami all too well back in the late 90s, but there is always adult swim. True it would be out of place on Disney and Nickelodeon channel, but it could work on Disney XD next to the Batman and Spiderman shows. While Robotech is already available in every format my point is that HG isn't throwing Robotech out to new potential fans. Robotech's phenomenal success back in 85 was all thanks to its syndication, broadcasting the show all over the USA for every kid with a TV to see. Now how many kids today do you think have a credit card to subscribe to Boomerang, Disney XD, Anime Network, or Itunes? The medium is saturated with plenty of Robotech stuff. The problem is that Robotech's popularity is running on empty because HG doesn't try to fill the tank with new fans. Most Robotech fans are in there 30s and find Robotech toy ads ONLY from Robotech.com. While HG cannot produce a "Macross" the least they could do is make the most of what they got. Back in 1985 kids were delighted by the change of pace with a mature action cartoon. Fast forward to 2009 I am sure many kids would be ecstatic to watch a handdrawn mature action cartoon amongst CG crap for a change. Just imagine HG could redirect all that negative Jackass behavior they pull on Big West and direct it towards Network executives for CN and Disney for showing crap like Drama Island and Aaron Stone over classics like Robotech and Gatchaman.
  18. Correction, Robotech's Editors would certainly like to imagine the show as a mid-to-top tier franchise. The real Robotech creators from Japan know that the 1st third of the show is a top tier because of all the hard work they put into expanding the franchise. The sad thing is I bet all HG would really have to do to bring alot of new fans to Robotech is simply convince Cartoon Network, Disney, or Nickelodeon to show Robotech along with other classic cartoons and market the crap they sell on Robotech.com with several commercials.
  19. This parody is absolutely hilarious! All of us who found Robotech fans before we lost our Macross virginity were obsequious toadies of HG. Now about that Youtube account. We all know that for evil A.I. programs capable of taking the form of singing idols can hack anything, except the joystick to the hero's jet. We all saw the animated movie and read about it on the Internet so we know its an indisputatble fact . So creating another youtube account would be piece of cake for an A.I. that hides behind an avatar of THE IDOL Minmay!
  20. QUOTE (Freiflug88 @ May 17 2009, 03:03 PM) * You missed when they explained the 'Bird-Human' as an ancient ancestor to the Invid in the Robotech: ZERO Originality OVAs laugh.gif . Nah, there was no mention of the Vajira just the tale of the Bird-humans (first Invid) doing it with the fish people on some Mayan Island. Is there any other series beside Robotech and Macross that has so much sex between aliens and humanity? The universe's best energy source Protoculture, must also be the universal Viagra. That must be why humanity was literally caught with there pants down by the Invid. Its all thanks to all those Protoculture aphrodisiac spores and a new population of hot Zor aka "Robotech Masters" that came in triplets! Its no wonder the Masters Saga ended so abruptly, there was just no way for Carl Macek to censor out all those Inter-species orgies that must started after the spread of Protoculture! How to we know your really not Robotechfanplus? Maybe your suffering from MOP (Multiple Online Personalities)? For all we know you could be a A.I. that has gone emotional and suffers from a Fan Love Triangle between Macross and Robotech as you plot to take over the world.
  21. Perhaps in small numbers. Most anime fans who watch Macross Frontier either know Japanese or watch fansubs. They no doubt will learn of Robotech's existence through wikipedia or googling Macross, but they won't care to watch a "disloyal English dub" of Macross labelled as Robotech now that Macross is easily available subbed. Besides most of the young anime fans I know simply REFUSE to watch any pre-90s anime because it just just doesn't appeal to them visually. You missed when they explained the 'Bird-Human' as an ancient ancestor to the Invid in the Robotech: ZERO Originality OVAs .
  22. Bendo's been tracking down phone numbers of online fans to harass them with phone calls? I would like to see him try that on me. We should start a petition to fire McKeaver from HG for his crude behavior, the Robotechfanplus trolling, and tarnishing the Robotech franchise. I want to move to LA and apply for HG now!
  23. Considering that Zero, M7, and possibly Frontier as well were developed with little or no expectation of leaving Japan, its more like Big West retains their International rights to those series. Bandai Visual would most likely be a top candidate for international distributions should BW decide. I don't think Mechas unpopularity is the problem just look at the popularity of Gundam, Code Geasse, Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, and the Transformers LAM in America alone. Its more like M7 and Zero are only guaranteed hits with diehard Macross fans who most likely watched fansubs already, everyone else is too busy with the new flashy mecha series too even notice. The music rights license would no doubt be very expense considering the albums reached the top charts. On the flipside the music rights are probably not as tangled as M7, with its multiple music holders having had 15 years to spread about in Japan. While the music has been licensed for the anime in Japan, the music right holders still have to give their consent and license music for international distribution in other countries. BW might have hired them, but May'n, Yoko Kanno, Megumi Nakajima still have the rights to decide which countries their songs can be distributed to. I think the biggest problem is that there are so many indefinite and definite obstacles in the way of Macross that most companies steer clear of it. Every company takes a market risk and mostly like runs into one or two individual obstacles when licensing and marketing anime, but Macross is an example of how everything that can go wrong with international licensing has gone wrong.
  24. I would think the guys at HG would have lives or possibly be working on Robotech Shadow Rising rather then pulling such an idiotic stunt, shocking concepts I know. Then again anything I have seen things with my own eyes that are much harder to believe.
  25. So my Jetfire as DYRL merchandise theory was wrong afterall. Ah well at least now I can take my frustrations out on RobotechFanPlus . Haven't done anything with my MacrossFanPlus account yet he has already posted that I am a faq with no creativity.
