I liked Captain Tsubasa since 1983. I read the manga and watched the anime series. Though I didn’t get the chance of continuing the series when we left Japan in 1985 but I do get to watch the updated (remake) series back in the 2000’s with the Road to 2002 series. And now watching the 2018 remake series, makes me wonder. If Captain Tsubasa can do remake with new artwork for new generation, why can’t they do it with Macross? I’m pretty sure I know the definite answer to this but it does really makes me wonder. ^_^

I used to read it myself back in middle school. My friends and I would often play soccer and pretend to be like the characters in Captain Tsubasa.  ^_^

Same here - along with maybe Speed Racer this was one of the 1st anime I saw as a kid and was totally amazed by it. Wish there was a good modern-quality series of figures out for the whole team...

I would pre-order the entire team in a heartbeat if Bandai were to release them in the SH Figuarts line.

Not so sure on this Evolution release of the God Phoenix. It looks a bit off.  The seamline along the side also looks pretty bad.

I have the Fewture/Art Storm releases of all of the vehicles and they all have wonderful sculpts....  only to be let down by sloppy ass paint work. orz

    VA-3! GO GO GO!

...but a VF-171 would be nice too. They should scrap the VF-22, as Hasegawa has that covered. A VF-9 or VF-14 would be cooler instead :D

VF-11MAXL would be my choice. ^_^

What a waste, the centerline has nothing on it, can't they slap on a pod with four more AMRAAMs?  12 AMMRAAMs seem to be not nearly enough for an itano circus.

But I suppose, they could have a fuel tank there and make the idea of a linked missile truck to an F-35 a reality.

Wait, is that a tailhook on the F-15?  Didn't know the 15s had one.

Many land-based fighter jets have tailhooks for emergency use. They're not as robust as those on naval fighters though.

  5. Admittedly, the kit is a bit sparse on the details so I can understand where RTKF is coming from. But considering that this is a model of a fantasy jet seen oh so briefly in a direct-to-video anime, and something normally reserved for Wonderfest garage kit exclusives, I'm just glad that Wave released it as a styrene kit in a proper scale.

Price-wise, yeah it is a tad expensive. Even the Wings of Honneamise Schira-Dow kits from PM Office A (a company I've never heard of) were 4500yen.

That said, I'd like to believe that this kit sold like bonkers so that perhaps Hasegawa or even Bandai can be persuaded to release their own. But i'm not holding my breath. I purchased 2 of the Wave kits and hope to work on it sometime this year.

Are you kidding, the specialization of aircraft will be more necessary than ever in the next two decades.  A derivative of the S-3 will be more necessary than ever given the newer Russian subs.  I don't think they'll be using F-18s for that role.  As far as fleet defenders are concerned, China has a large number of J-11, J-10, H-6, JH-7s, and that doesn't even begin to take into account possible J-20s.  Now, that doesn't mean going back to an F-14, but it sure as heck means that F-18s and the F-35s need to be replaced with something that can go against those numbers and possible stealth.   Admittedly, using UCLASS for tankers will alleviate some of the problems, but the -18s still have very short legs. < 500 miles when loaded for combat if I remember right,

I'd agree that a S-3 replacement is sorely needed.

But the F-35s should be able handle the fleet defense mission if necessary.  It's AESA radar and sensors networked with AEGIS is likely to be better in situational awareness than anything the navy had before in terms of fleet defense.

F-35Cs are expected to have a 1100km combat radius and Super Hornets are expected to get conformal fuels which should bring the combat radius on par with the retired Tomcat.

It’ll be a drone, if it happens at all. People always forget that the Tomcat was a maintenance hog.

Plus, there's no current need for a fleet defender. The Cold War is over and the navy doesn't have to worry about waves of Soviet Backfire or Badger bombers firing AS-4 Kitchen or AS-6 Kingfish missiles at carrier battle groups.

At 1/72 scale for a non-transformable vf-1 fighter, i think the detailing has got to be top notch to get the demand on board.
    That or the price.

Calibre Wings' 1/72 scale diecast F-14 Tomcats have superb detail. I have 2 in my collection and they are head and shoulders above other diecast model manufacturers of the Tomcat. The head guy at Calibre is supposedly a stickler for accuracy so I'm excited for this.

Well what a disappointment.  Canards falling off and everything.  I had such high hopes for these pieces because they look so damn good.  It's a shame they fall right in line with the tradition of crappy Robotech toys coming over stateside.  Failing miserably at their one basic task, and giving us instead poor substitutes for Macross.  Any theories on why this is always the case?  Same old same old I guess: Japan taking their careful time with mini masterpieces, the craftsmanship, design, artwork, characterization, the list goes on and on, and the Americans churning out the same old crap, Ford, GMC, Robotech and all.

Actually these F-14s from Calibre Wings are from China.  The issues that Jenius mentions aren't that bad. Yes, the pylons come off rather easily but it's easily dealt with. Just a bit of Elmer's glue will help.  There are some fragile areas and fiddly pieces but this is generally typical for diecast aircraft models that are aiming for high accuracy and detail. As the review mentions - keep in mind that these are meant for display. Not for play.  As display pieces, these models are absolutely superb.

I've just got back from one of my trips to Japan and was rather interested to see that the airliner I got back was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which felt rather new. I was in economy, but one impression I got was there seemed to be more vertical "space" overhead than I've felt before in other airliners.

Mind you, this might be just because the plane I flew out on was so old I think it still had Frank Whittles signature inscribed on the engines... :)

What airline did you take? Also, what airport did you fly in/out of?

  12. I just have to wonder from where Tenjin is getting inspiration for these anniversary schemes. The real life aerobatic team colors and JASDF anniversary liveries are far more appealing.

  13. Toy Galaxy is at times a nostalgia channel. It seems they'll cover whatever 1980's cartoon and toys when they feel like it. In other words, the timing, of when the channel covers a certain past cartoon series and its related toys doesn't really matter. I mean, just a few weeks ago, they covered Centurions.

Personally, I enjoy the channel. I don't really care to research stuff like Centurions, Sectaurs, or Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, but I do remember them from my childhood so brief and light content like what Toy Galaxy provides is nice for when I need entertainment while eating lunch.
