Wanted to share another item from the extreme-rare category of Mospeada history, the Cutaway series.

Around 2001 I picked up this Cutaway Armo-Soldier cel from Mandarake Torrance, it was $500 at the time which was a LOT of money.
This was the original Cel created by Artmic, and it is large! Here it is from a pic I took back in 2001 with my Macross VO cdrom for comparison
About 10 years ago it was part of a trade to another member here on the board.

Flipping up the corner to take a peek, its hand painted!

Flash Forward 25 years later, another Cutaway pic showed up on Yahoo Japan Auctions this week, the Armo-Fighter mode cel!
804,098 yen later, it is was secured for the same person I traded the Soldier mode to, and will be in transit soon.
That is a FAR cry from the measly $500 from 2 decades ago!!
When it arrives I'll make sure to get some detailed pics to share  :)

The seller did the same 'peek'

As far as I know, there are just 2 more in this Cutaway series, the Mospeada bikes in both modes.

Here are the pics of these from the Artmic Design book from the 80's
Its crazy to know exactly where 50% of these assets are 40 years later!

$500 USD adjusted for inflation today is approx $900 USD .

    804,098 Yen approx $5K USD

That has beat the sh#t out of inflation for that recent sale. Nice 👍

  2. I thought it was average. I can't really remember what happened in it. No memorable scenes. Saw it opening day here in Australia. Great to see a mix of generations in the audience. Alot of kids turned up to watch (although it's school holidays atm) Was hoping it would create a new generation of fans.

Australian audiences can be tough to entertain. Silence through out the movie and upon leaving.

Those are pretty tough to find in not so beat up condition these days. Great cover art there for sure. I know a few big frazetta fans that have posters of that same cover.

This issue in particular is very hard to find  The (1.5) was a lucky eBay find..... but a (4.5) is impossible!!

I had no choice but to buy off an owner of an auction win a Heritage Auctions.

Took me 8 months to save up for it with my broke ass minimum wage self.

    Definitely gonna hold these long-term.

That's a great cover, but you can't read 'em!

Actually I'm really looking forward to reading a photocopy version!! Best of both worlds.

BTW I love your indie book Kit Carter Galactic Ranger. Seems like a homage to EC Comics. Good read?

  5. Does anyone know the print run numbers for MTF volumes? Couldn't seem to find it on Wikipedia.

I'm assuming that it would be a low print number as it was in Japanese compared to 10's of millions if it had been printed in english? .... hoping for "low" print as a long-term investment.

  6. Another pick up.

    World's Finest #66 1953!!

This will be the last golden age comics I buy raw. (Restoration & color touch is rampant in golden age comics raw)

Pick up my UV flashlight next week and see if there's any color touch....if there is gonna reduce the value by $100s  ... fingers crossed.

From now on just gonna buy CGC slabs with golden age. But this comic has beautiful dark colours for it age & looks amazing in person!!IMG_20240620_1258493.jpg.b65881651f4381a14c47bbe0dbd1ee51.jpg

  7. Arrived in the post today!!

Rare late golden age Detective Comics #174 1951. Beautiful dark colour ink strike. This comic has been out of the sunlight for most of it's life.

Text ink transfer from the inner front cover bleeding through the yellow on the cover... but with the ink/pulp paper used back then, I can live with it. Besides it's Batman throwing a fight in the boxing ring, hilarious :lol:IMG_20240619_200941.jpg.34f1adc316156eb09b1c72d4c4fabb92.jpgIMG_20240619_200741.jpg.7ec69da442df6278c1dfe01ed6ce5dda.jpg

Even his derpy armor suit had an open chin. I love Batman and all, but there’s some questionable stuff going on

The elephant in the room is maintaining a secret identity with current surveillance tech as soon as they step outside.

A Batman movie set in the 1930's or a Spiderman movie set in the 1960's would help future audiences suspend their disbelief & except that a masked crime fighter would be able to keep their secret identity.

That’s back when Batman was the world’s worst detective and couldn’t see a trap if it looked him in the eyes and said it was a trap. He was captured so many many times back then.

World's greatest detective but he insists on revealing the lower half of his face. Turning up to crime fighting clean shaven. It's like he wants to get shot in the face.
