  1. It'll probably work short term but your best bet is a lacquer based paint that has a bit of "bite" to it.  Anything else is likely to scratch off just as easily as the original.  I'm not sure if gundam markers are available in lacquer.  The ones I've got certainly don't smell like they are.

  2. Oh absolutely.  I forgot to mention again that this is obviously why the Advance has the spacing that it does, specifically to make sure the weapons can still mount when the boosters are installed.

Furthermore, am I recalling correctly that the inner hardpoint actually serves as an anchor point for the booster pack itself?

Yep, my meagre investigation so far reveals the outer mounts are the same distance from the wingtips, but the middle and inner are spaced farther apart. You end up with a mount closer to the leg this way.  Making room for the Frontier style booster makes perfect sense, actually.

What I'd like to know is, can you still mount any dual weapon without fouling on a single mounted one?  Does mounting a dual mean you cannot use the adjacent mount at all?

I'd test it out but I haven't got my YF-19 unpacked yet.

Had a chance to snap a quick pic this morning.  Pardon the fuzziness of the YF-19 against the relative sharpness of the Advance.  Also note the slight change in tone of the two "beige" interpretations.  Some of this is due to changing the settings in the photo to bring out the details but it's also indicative of the real difference between the two.

So it does indeed look like the outer hardpoint is the same between the two, while the middle and inner are spaced farther apart on the new release DX, compared to the original.

  4. It also looks like the entire Stab is pivoting but the "frame" is stationary, which is all kinds of weird.  But again, the fact they showed this sort of thing at all on a cartoon in the early '80s is nothing short of amazing.

  6. What about the radome coming off?  Have we seen any shots of the new DX being able to do that?  Personally, that gimmick didn't interest me in the slightest, but if you're going to redo a 1/48, I'd have thought that would easily get re-used.

  7. I've just received my shiny new YF-19 so the Advance needs to go to make space.  I've transformed it 2 times and everything is in great shape.  Unsure about box condition as it's still in storage but recall it came in decent shape from HLJ and that I've kept it stored in another shipping box.  Meaning: it's likely still in new condition as well.  Will confirm and add pics soon.

Asking SOLD including shipping to the US (in US Dollars) + 3% Paypal fee or none if you want to go the friends option.

If anyone in Australia is interested, please PM me for a better price since shipping will obviously be a lot less.

    EDIT:
I'm calling this one SOLD, pending final transaction.

Thanks for teaching me a new word, Seto.  I hadn't encountered it before and thought you'd potentially typo'd even.  Should have known better.

I'm getting absolutely spammed by this "Russian meddling plot" stuff in my Android phone's news feed lately so this whole discussion is fascinating, at the very least.

  9. Just retrieved mine from work's inward goods (from CDJ) and was greeted by a very dented shipping box.  Fortunately there's only the slightest mark on the product box and a cursory inspection revealed an intact head laser.  Phew...

  10. Anyone get any request for payment from CD Japan?

And is it just me, or did that pictorial on the new bird, show a revised elbow joint? I could swear it looks like the range of motion is better than on the Advance.

  11. It also looks like the gun fits into the arm cannon itself and doesn't rely on the mounting point of the arm at all.  Would that mean it sits a bit lower too though? Not sure how that'd work given how it already sits so low on the VF-19 Advance that it has to do that bendy thing to fit/aim correctly.

  12. Agree completely!  I used to love detailing up the toys I had, but that was because I had only a handful.  These days, with the growing collection, even just looking at all the work involved to "do it right" by my standards (translation: spend way too much time on stuff that nobody but me will ever see) makes me think of being really, really old...

That said, the white valks can look fantastic if you work with a very light gray as the panel line wash.  I did this with the Yamato VF-1J v2 I have and it's not half bad.  Just have to go really easy on it.

  13. We've certainly got some standout members down this way, that's for sure! ;)

I'm way late but huge thanks again to @spanner for an awesome deal and being the supreme enabler he is.  Have made quite a few purchases from him over the years and no doubt will continue to do so.  My wallet hates him, but I reckon he's a top notch bloke!

  14. I have loved the Legioss since the 80's when it was an 'Alpha' and this version hits me where I liked it most - Fighter mode.  I have never liked the compromise that the toys had to make with the massive foot/toe jutting out the back of the plane.  Always wondered why it was so exaggerated in every toy rendition.  This version makes it look like it was always possible and causes me to wonder why it's taken so long to get it to look this 'right' in fighter mode.

Of course the realist in me knows that this version has had to make a lot of changes in order for this to happen, and like the Captain mentioned above, the most obvious is the way legs have to squish down and crowd the wings.  It's a concession I don't mind though.

I wish I had pictures of the one I built out of Lego in the early '90s.  I know I had to make a lot of design choices that weren't all good.  Still, it was without doubt the most fun thing I ever built from Lego and really made me appreciate how much thought (and anime magic) went into the Legioss design overall.

This looks like it'll be the first toy from Mospeada I've ever seriously considered purchasing.

  15. For me too.  I snagged one.  I was sad when I didn't get it back when it was first released.  Despite the size, it looks really good and it's such an iconic nostalgia piece, it's very hard to pass up.

EDIT: Guess it was up until I ordered one!  Sorry to anyone I bumped off the want list.

If it's any consolation, looks like there may still be hope if you check back every few minutes.

  16. Yeah, the metallic sheen on the stealth planes is bizarre, to say the least.  I had the rare chance to see both the '35 and '22 up close at an airshow 2 years ago and they're definitely not the same coating.  But in both cases, I think you can achieve something convincing with a scale model by mixing metallic paint with grey tones.

In fact, I've been told the paint guide on the Hasegawa Raptor kit is darn close.  It recommends Gunze 'Super Metallic' (I hope I have that name right) mixed with various FS greys to get it close.  From there you can buff some panels to make it convincing.

I like the idea of graphite polished into a grey paint job though.  That has real merit!

  17. Yeah, I missed it too.  I don't want another scale to add to the collection but this one looks really good and I'd have found a way to make it work if I'd been able to jump online during the pre-order.

Oh well, I'm in for the second release PO window, provided there is one.  And if not, the inevitable mark-up when they are released to the world.
