  1. Does China have a copyright laws? I remember hearing about well known manga's being plagiarized in China. On another note, it seems that Memo is convinced that a pic in the TPB that was taken from an episode of Mospeada/New Gen is new animation.

Oh my gawd guys, he should totally do a podcast about it.

  2. I've been thinking recently that HG has really been taking advantage of what the makers of Astro Plan were able to do with the blatant rip off of Gundam and Macross material without legal actions against them. Also, I'm reminded about the time when, IIRC, a life size Gundam knockoff somewhere in China was built and it took a while for the people behind it to take it down for legal reasons. It could be one of the reasons why they're focusing a lot of their attention (merchandising) in places like China right now. That, or because it's both cheaper and more profitable for them to follow the real money rather than their normal bases.

Who knows, HG may even follow Star Blazer's lead and try to convince the Syfy channel to show reruns of Robo-Tech. Anything to regain relevance (but more importantly money), right?

  3. The weakness of being a loosely organized group of people that value anonymity is that they actively make enemies far too often and have accountability issues.

Report: Hackers Say Anonymous Likely Behind Sony Attacks

They should have chosen a better way to hurt Sony, and only Sony, or have more self restraint if this is true.

  4. So far, the only problem I had with a PS3 was probably damage from improper packaging. My brother gave me his after returning from abroad. The first time I turned it on, a plume of dust blew from the side of the system and worked for a couple of days. Then I got a yellow light error every time I turned it on and had to send it to Sony for repairs. But that was totally my brother's fault, especially since he got it second hand and was living in a desert area at the time. It might be a 60 GB because I was able to play my copy of Final Fantasy VII on it.

  5. Do not judge the person(Shows) from their looks only. That is artist and writer's ability that polishes it if there is ore that shines in the person (Shows).

But these shows are in the entertainment business, where profitability and ratings are really important for their survivability. Southern Cross failed in both as the show ended in a cliffhanger, merchandise was minimal and the only people who really care about it at this point is HG and Robotech. And even then they put more emphasis on Macross and Mospeada in everything they say and do while treating it as an bad decision just to guarantee syndication potential. If people like it, there's nothing wrong with that. Just don't expect HG to do much with it since these days it's all about making money cheaply rather than unique art, mecha designs, and noteworthy stories to make up.

Still, that was some nice fan(?) art.

  6. Anonymous or whoever did this it begs the question how bad is Sony's security? You'd think a major company that can afford to pay for the best people and security measures would be able to thwart the hoodlums of the internet.

Remember that someone was finally able to hack into the system recently and showed off how he did it. His work may have been used by other people to do more damage than anyone imagined.

  7. I couldn't find the old Live Action Akira thread, so I thought this might be an appropriate spot to post this because the LAM Robo-tech and Warner Brothers. Whenever they decide to get serious about it, this issue is bound to rear its ugly head for that production as well. True, HG already made some changes to characters in the original three shows that made up Robo-tech to make the point moot, it may still be a sensitive issue, among many, especially with how the franchise came to be in the first place.

  8. I've always wondered - is it pride that's keeping the three companies from doing so? Thinking about the logic behind it:

Option A) All or any of the parties come to a compromise, they make money, just not as much as they want.

Option B) All or any of the parties hold out to get a better share, they make no money either way.

Why would you settle for option B when the end price is zero??? If you're "waiting" for a bigger payout, the product will get diluted in the market and be worth less by the time it the payout would (theoretically) happen.

I think by now one company desperately wants any huge payout from this situation. Remember the "grass roots marketing" defense for RT 20XX? The other two are doing just fine regardless.

  9. Okay i just read Maverick's long explanation about the Berne Convention and how before the US joined in the late 80's, Robotech already had it's copyright enforced under the US copyright laws, and has this exemption from Berne Convention while also being covered by it when the US joined  . Care to explain more about the US copyright act of 1978 and it's relationship to the Berne Convention?

  10. I'll translate that if you translate this for me:

RTX is about the fan perspective but according to HG you're not a fan if you criticize their actions.

IF MANGA HER WOULD LIKE TO FOLLOW YOUR ADVICE ON YOUR PERSPECTIVE OF CRITICIZING IN HG REALM, HE WELCOME TO IT BUT HE WILL BE SHORT LIVE.

FOR A WHILE THERE I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LAST BUT YOU COULD NOT HELP YOURSELF.

WELCOME TO RTX. YOUR OTHER CHOICE FOR FAN PERSPECTIVE.

  11. I'll still call it Robo-tech from now on in honor of certain people in the "biz" wasting so much of people's time because they couldn't understand context and the use of a damn lower case r and a slash to justify hours of rants on forums and talkshoe. And if it turns out to be called an elaborate April Fools Day prank in the future, it was too early by a couple of weeks to be one. Besides, they pull too much BS like this on a regular basis to actually make it funny anymore, both fanboys and the official talent running the franchise alike.

  12. If you guys care, another interesting look into the mind of McKeever. I apologize for the assload of quotes, but I found this too interesting.

    On his last blog post:

    http://bankofkev.blogspot.com/2011/04/box-office-down-20-so-far-this-year.html

So what point was Mckeever trying to make? Is Robo-tech going to unexpectedly come around like a phoenix and find success in this situation? The LAM is in development hell, probably not coming to take advantage of this slump he's suggesting in time, and the only thing HG is offering is a potential side story that people may or may not like want at this time and production-wise may or may not even be done by this year.

In fact, what does anything happening in Hollywood have to do with McKeever at this time? His only concern/sphere of influence is Robo-tech. He's not in MGM, Fox, Paramount, etc. He's in Harmony freakin' Gold.

Person in the biz: "Harmony What?"

    Einherjar: "Exactly."

  13. Crysis 2 online games currently are a cheater paradise due to a lot of modifiable client side variables having an impact on gameplay – i.e.: players can activate cheats in multiplayer. Check out

to see what it looks like :p

This is what happens when a studio specialized in concole development works on the multi of a PC game...

Geez, it's like the problems I'm having with Far Cry 2 at the moment. I tell you, it's hard being a newcomer to multiplayer when all the hardcore people have most of the upgrades and tend to stick together to mop the floor with noobs in ranked matches.

  14. Btw, they've pulled down their own website for April fools. Wow, so funny and original. We can all dream can't we?

Actually, they turned Asian (ironic)... or Communist... or Anti-UN (in universe), I'm not sure. Anyway, who cares? It's going to turn back to the ghost town website its always been tomorrow.

  15. On the other hand, Robotech is more story driven, which focus on the big picture (the large overarching storyline).

Are they ever going to resolve that storyline(s) within our lifetime? It only had an ending in the novels. But now that HG doesn't recognize it (beyond $$$, and now available in ebook form, btw) and the continuation/conclusion of the Shadow Saga hasn't gone anywhere (5 years going), where is the story driving towards these days? Off a cliff?
