Hasegawa finishes

just some modeler guy

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has used Hasegawa polarized and color finish sheets. The polarized finish sheets come in green and red, but flip flop in the light. There's also other colored finishes including carbon fiber. I've searched to see if there are any instructions in english, but found none, On HLJ on the page for the product, it shows a glue icon, and what little I've found alludes to it being adhesive backed, but I'm not so sure. None of the ones I have peel off anything.

I have applied it to one model I'm working on, but I didn't glue it. Just cut out pieces,(and they are testy, as wrinkling it can occurr easily while cutting.) and put them in first the clear light pieces second. Looks as I wanted it to, but I want to be sure. Any assistance would be helpful thank you.

I haven't used it but it looks interesting. A few of the HLJ pages actually listed the instructions:

Hologram Finish: http://www.hlj.com/product/HSGTF14

A self-adhesive sheet of thin foil to produce amazing effects on your models. Trim to size, peel off the backing sheet, and place on a clean surface (unpainted is supposed to be best). Smooth out as you would a decal, with a soft cloth or cotton swab. This set is produces a "hologram" prismatic finish.

Same for the Gold Mirror Finish: http://www.hlj.com/product/HSGTF5

Good luck, have fun, & post your results! :)

Have you tried applying it like a decal?

Try heat of a light bulb, ultra violet light (might yellow plastic) or passing a low temp blow dryer without melting the plastic. Practice with a scrap piece of styrene.

I have used the Hasegawa SILVER, GOLD and possibly another couple ( I can't remember which ).

They all came with adhesive backing.

This backing was difficult to remove since both the backing and the substrate itself is extremely thin. I could only remove it with tweezers a scalpel blade from memory. And the substrate is so thin it wrinkles easily once off the adhesive protection. This is, however, what is awesome about these colour sheet finishes - they conform to detail very nicely over small areas. I'm not sure how useful they would be over large areas although I am considering testing one for an StarWars Naboo fighter with mirror finish. For detailed finishes you can't get any other way, I highly recommend these, they are awesome.
