Yeah, now that I recall, I have problems explaining to my ex why I was in my University Anime Club, especially after the media cover stories on the Urotsukidoji phenomenon. So at that time immediately afterwards, all anime seemed to be associated with tentacle porn, rape, and orgies. This, after coming from the 80s era of anime dealing with romantic love stories and classic literature (Candy Candy, Heidi) and giant robo/mecha stuff. No help to me that the University club also screened Bubblegum Crisis and AD Police when I took my ex there.
