  1. Those who called that the Vajra were peaceful got it right. Grace basically sabotaged the 117th and Ranshe's research. Apparently Ranshe contracted the virus somehow which i'm guessing is through overexposure to the vajra. Grace and Co. are plugged into a fold neural network found through research of the Vajra....can't get the rest.

This is very close to what I proposed back in the Episode 18 Talkback Thread

This points more to the infection being virus-like than bacterial as well.

  2. Oh, how easily we forget that long stretch when the forums were rife with speculation about when Ranka would finally get her big break... :)

Actually, I don't think I was around in the forum at that time :)

I think the problem may partly be that young children are boring in general, at least to certain kinds of people. The characters in Frontier, Ranka in particular, are still growing up to be interesting adults.

I agree with you. I would have to say again, that character design seems to influence this quite a bit, as one of the most boring characters has got to be Alto but he is labeled most often as being just dense.

  3. "Oedipus Complex is, in psychoanalysis, a subconscious sexual desire in a child, especially a male child, for the parent of the opposite sex, usually accompanied by hostility to the parent of the same sex."

There is no case of Oedipus Complex here. Just a person who reminds another person of the distress of his mother, a person he loves and values and whose death has probably traumatized him as a kid. Now what we should really be discussing, is whether this means that Alto cares for Sheryl only because he is reminded of this love, or if it's true love.

The operative word here is *subconscious* which means that the sexual part may be repressed and may or may not not be expressed in a romantic way. In any event, we don't know anything about Alto's subconscious, but you can be sure he harbors a lot of hostility toward his father. I do agree though that Alto does not view Sheryl as a mother figure so whatever his feelings it can't be really considered a case of Oedipus Complex.

  4. Sheryl is a more believable character with a background and things people can identify with

Ranka is just a plain boring FAST pack, as person, Ranka is just cute, nothing more...too young, maybe an older Ranka with more character would make her more popular

I don't agree that Sheryl is any more believable than Ranka, and have to completely disagree with Sheryl being someone more people can identify with.

I can see how Ranka can be seen as boring though. Everything comes too easily for her. She essentially attained overnight what Grace had been preparing Sheryl for, for 11 years.

  5. Again, while it reminds people of Oedipus Complex, it is not a case of Oedipus Complex. There is no evidence that Alto had romantic feelings for her mother, hence using this term is just an attempt to use big words. To say that it reminds you of Oedipus Complex, or as you said, has references to, doesn't mean that it's equivalent to it, as quite a lot of people over the net is trying to make it to be. Oedipus Complex is such a strong description to use on a person who just has familial love to his mother.

I don't think Oedipus Complex necessarily means that there are romantic feelings for the mother. For Freud, every male child goes through a phase where they are extremely possessive of their mother's attention, sometimes to the point where they hate their father. Whether Alto's dislike of his father is related to his mother has not been revealed, but I get the feeling that it probably is.

  6. I think he's not sure himself what he's trying to protect. Particularly how he reacted to Ozma's line on reacting to momentary emotions, and not knowing why he flies. That's not to say that Sheryl isn't someone deeply important to him, but it doesn't entirely feel the same as Hikaru and Misa.

With Hikaru and Misa there was hope for a future. With Sheryl it's practically pallative care.

  7. is the Minma Gaurd model hard to find?

I just bought the Minmay Guard from HLJ recently, but I have not seen it available anywhere else. I also picked up a set of the Minmay Guard Paris concert decals as well. There is also somebody in HK that is making just the Minmay Guard decals, but buying the decals separately and a battroid model end up at about the same price.

The only thing I don't like about the model is that it does not have a hand that will allow you to make the pose on the box art, so I will have to sculpt a separate hand.

  8. Cyborgs aren't almighty or bulletproof... If they were they wouldn't need to evade in the first place...

I counted 3 soldiers in the hatch at the ceiling, 3 more in the room with her plus the armed suit guy... What makes a total of 7 armed humans vs 1 unarmed cyborg. That's some pretty tough odds even for a cyborg.

She probably used machine guns located in the chestal region like all fembots. The self-grope in the preview was to make sure that her ammo was fully loaded.

  9. Super Dimension Proto de Culture Finale!

*Megaroad 01 detected on protoculture homeworld...Hikaru and Misa are now a bitter old couple

Ozuma vs Brera 2.0 will end similarly to Guld v Ghost in M+

SMS Quarter Pounder v Battle Frontier above Protoculture homeworld

    * Grace hacks Battle Frontier and uploads Sharon Apple from a backup on her internal HDD

Alto v Grace similar to Shin v Nora in M0

*Sheryl + Ranka singing revives Birdman and Vajra swarm around it to protect it, Birdman targets SMS Quarter/ Battle Frontier.

*Macross Galaxy arrives to capture Birdman

*Macross7 defolds at the Battle scene Basara joins the battle right after Ozuma becomes space dust

*Isamu and Myung arrive in the YF-19 from Eden

Leon gets what's coming to him from the Vajra specimen aboard Frontier in the test tube.

Nanase wakes up just as Luca bites the proverbial bullet

*It is revealed the Mr. Bilrer buys out L.A.I company after the events of the Vajra war are publiced, he uses L.A.I's new fold booster technology for his galaxy railway system.

Sheryl dies of space AIDs shortly after the battle ends

*Ranka replaces Sarah Nome in the Birdman

    *= super dimensional speculation

Cut to scene of morning light filtering through a window.

    Minmay wakes up and yawns.

"I had a really strange dream... Oh well, today's the big air show!"

  10. I think you're on the mark with regards to the scene not "feeling right", in that there are still a lot of unresolved issues hovering in the air. While it's clear that Alto has strong feelings for Sheryl, he hasn't defined for himself what those feelings are and what he intends to do with them.

They lingered on the picture of Alto's mother in that scene. I get the feeling that Alto may have been in a similar situation before. There may be more to his rebelliion against his father than not wanting to be a kabuki actor.

  11. I just found a cache of Original Future at my local neighborhood mom and pop market, they have old bottles but none of it is yellowed, the isle they are in never get sun......

Is it OK/legal to ship this stuff though.?? I can help anyone out who needs it if they cannot find it.. or maybe i should keep my find a secret...ahh MY PRECIOUSSSSsssssss....

Future has not been discontinued. They just changed the name. The formulation of the replacement is supposed to be the same. I think the new name in the US is something like "Pledge with Future Shine" or something like that.

  12. It has to do with cell membranes, protein production, and pumps. I am not about to dive deeply into these papers, but viruses and cell proteins do have some relationship to each other. Additionally proteins in membranes also factor into adhesion/entry of viruses into cells.

These are a given [in a general sense]. I'm no expert in viruses, but I have yet to hear of an earth virus that hijacked an ATP pump through any mechanism. Bacteria yes, but not viruses. Viruses as we know of them code for a polymerase (to replicate their DNA or RNA), a coat protein (to encapsulate the DNA or RNA), and a some sort of receptor protein to allow them to attach to target cells. They pretty much don't have room for much else. The v-type virus in MF may in fact have room for other stuff since its a big phage-type virus, but in any event, there is no earth analog that I am aware of.

    Here endeth the lesson.

And immunologically that means still that Sheryl has a fighting chance if there are some experimental medicine types or biologists aboard Frontier . (Or rather, Galaxy, since they're more advanced technologically...)

This is why I said back in ep. 18 or 19 that she should have gone to see an expert instead of listening to Grace. Why crawl into a corner to die when you have the marvels of 21st century medicine to treat you? Hell, they came up with a cure for the equivalent pineapple salad, why not for some pesky virus that already has an inhibitor in production?

  13. Immunologic reactions are dictated according to several variations -- speciies specific and even down to our own individual DNA. What kills one person could be fought off by another. Not that Kawamori has to follow general science, but I dug up something on V-type infections and they do exist in regular medical literature... just google v-type virus

All I find is information on v-type ATPases, which has nothing to do with viruses. The closest thing in viruses would be those that have a v-type domain, In this case v = variable. This does play a role in viral susceptibility, but I don't think that it is what the "v" in the v-type virus stands for.

  14. You don't think these are unreasonable standards to hold anyone to? Even Ranka was surprised when the Vajra attack only intensified. At that point she wasn't clear about what was happening.

At the funeral, Leon asking Ranka to sing after she'd already been through, and had personally lost (as far as she knew) so much, for a publicity stunt, it was in horribly bad taste and I find it difficult to understand how anyone could rationalize finding fault with Ranka in that. In the real world Leon's request would have been a career ending blunder for a public figure (assuming they had not staged a coup and held complete, unrestricted authority). Performances at somber and emotionally charged events such as that funeral service are arranged ahead of time, not thrust onto someone like that on the spur of the moment.

I totally agree. She had no time to recover between the time she got socked in the gut by what she saw between Alto and Sheryl and the Vajra attack. Was the matter trivial? Perhaps, but certainly not to her. I certainly don't believe in coddling a diva, but if Michel and Alto had switched positions, you can bet they wouldn't have had this problem.

Ranka: Boo, hoo, I don't wanna sing!

Michel as Alto: Hey baby, you know it wasn't like that. I like you the best!

    Ranka: Really? Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [sings Aimo]

Sheryl: ... [damn, I really wanted to slap her!]

The singing at the wake thing was totally off the cuff and weird as well. I don't see what she could have done. Let's face it, she does not have any appropriate songs in her repetoir.

  15. Then why call him in the middle of the night/ And show him Ai-kun, whome, his breathen just killed Micheal?

She called him in the middle of the night to give a final (futile) shot at trying to win Alto over, but probably more so to say good-bye. Was this childish? Yes. But she is a love-sick child, so I see nothing unusual about her actions. I was actually expecting her to reveal Ai-kun right off the bat, but the way it turned out, I wasn't so sure that she intended for Ai-kun to show up when he did. Ranka wanted some quiet time with Alto, and Ai-kun showing up was kind of a Crying Game moment for them.

    P.S.

As I stated previously, Ai-kun has done harm to nobody. Killing Ai-kun for the death of Michel would be acting like those guys who murdered Wagar Hasan who was cooking burgers in a grocery store "in retaliation" for the WTC attack. Thinking that "all of them are the same" may let a person rest easy at night after a day of butchery, but it doesn't make it right.

  16. Yeah. I mean she pissed me off that she left MF with Brera, whom Alto hates, and she asks him to come with her while Brera has a knife on him. Ranka to me is a mixed bag. Theres times where she seems mature, then she does something to flub it up. <_<

The world does not revolve around Alto for her anymore. She is moving on to more important things. By the time Brera kicked Alto to the curb, she already realized there was no point in asking Alto to go with her. She merely said she *had wanted* to ask him to go with her. Her attitude seemed totally fatalistic, suggesting that she believes this will be a one way trip. "I wanted to be with you forever" seemed like shinju-speak to me. If you want to criticize her for that, I'd buy it, but my take is that she wasn't really expecting him to go anyway since she thinks he is in love with Sheryl.

  17. So we were right all along... she is a miyazaki reject!

although Nausicaa doesn't have a "mysterious" way of communicating with insects if i recall correctly. she just uses a whistle to calm them. and she just happened to sacrifice herself for the little ohmu. but in any case, i guess the analogy still works.

but i still maintain that nausicaa is way way WAY cooler! :D

In the manga, Nausicaa does communicate with the Ohmu, and I believe in one instance she is able to calm a ushiabu in a well without the whistle. I agree with you that Ranka is certainly nowhere near Nausicaa as far as being heroic goes, but can Nausicaa pull off the kira pose?
