  1. One thing I don't understand is why some campaign missions are locked with a password? I've S/SS'ed every mission but I'm only at 99% mission completion!

Era and Stat unlimiter should be the two most expensive items in the shop. I think they were over 30k when I got them. One of them also requires at least level 17 shop as well. Can't remember exactly.

  2. I've looking around for some good wallpapers for a while and for some reason, the people who make them tend to take gorgeous artwork and then add lens flares, logos, special filters and watermarks up the ass which ruins the original concept. So when high res scans of the Sheryl artbook came out, I just made my own. Only one needed a bit of editing other than some cropping and centering which had another picture in the corner which I cut out and then smoothed the edges that intersected with the pink "aura". Originals can be found http://moe.imouto.org/pool/show/1057

  3. My game showed up in my mailbox. So here goes a newb question. What is the age all about on the char screen. I notice if you go to 1 or up to 70 your stats go down ofcourse since you are very old or way too young. Does your char age through the game? For the min maxers is their an optimal age if it never changes?

Age only affects your starting stats i think and you call still level them up to the max. My character has 99 for every stat except for the 4th one which I don't know what it is or why its stuck at 36. I have 100% items and 97% missions from getting S or SS on everything except a few of the chronicle missions.

  5. No, in all the books, it actually, flatly states that she's 15. Kamujin is 23, Britai is 34, and everyone else is "unknown."

I was always confused about this. Books say she is 15 but in the series, Millia herself states that she is was the veteran of THOUSANDS of battles and never lost.

  6. ......ok this is ridiculous. I just beat chronicle final frontier with full health to get the max hp bonus score AND my best time yet with a 29100/30000 time bonus AND melee'd everything to death in part one for max "excellent" bonus and STILL only got an A grade with 150700 points. There's literally no where else to squeeze more points from! S seems pretty impossible at this point

  7. So how would one go about doing that? I've tried but had no success. Are there steps posted online somewhere?

    Short version: Firmware Hack

Long version: The exact method varies depending on the model of PSP you have. I don't know about the original fat PSP but the slim 2000 model requires a special 3rd party battery while the 3000 has a purely software hack.

    http://www.psp-hacks.com/ to get started.

  8. Where and how would be a good way to upload?

It's not like ripping an ISO is that hard. You still need to have a UMD in the drive and I'm not sure how the whole region locked aspect will work out.

getting around region lock is easy. as for where to upload, megaupload seems to be the most convenient. either that or a torrent site.

  9. Here are some fuzzy reflecty pictures of the UMD-V content.

There are also lots of interviews with Kawamori, the highlight of which is probably his transformation of the Lego VF-25, which is even better than the Bandai version in many ways.

fart, i would sooooooo buy a lego vf-25. Some should rip the iso of the bonus disc and put in online.

  10. Nope, on the second part, go directly for Bodolza. The S/SS rank (I believe) comes in from (aside from taking no damage) taking out the Zentradi ships before Bodolza goes all alley killer. When the countdown starts, try as hard as you can to take out both ships in the center (no new ones will respawn until after the cannon blast), so you don't lose those points to Bodolza. Should raise your grade if you can do it and gtfo of there before getting hit.

    \

A big chunk of your points will be from killing boldoza in about 15 seconds and taking no damage to get huge points from health and time bonus. the trick is to use the vf1 with the strike pack in B mode so you get the much better special. Don't go into the room where youll more than likely lost big chunks of health when he gets low on health and pops his special. Just stay outside in the hall and pop your special then pump him full of lead.

  11. I have to cop out and say all 3. It wasn't a specific mode that hooked me, it was how all 3 modes could so smoothly transform from one to the other and look like that mode was how it was meant to be. For alot of transforming mecha, especially when they are in robot mode, they tend to have lots of parts sticking out for no reason other than because that part is needed for one of the other modes (something the Transformers fandom call kibble). Or when they are in flight mode, it doesn't look like something that should be able to fly, let alone perform dogfights. The fact that the VF-1 looked perfectly natural in all 3 modes was what made it tiers above all other mecha in terms of design.

  12. For people who have trouble beating AFOs with the Vf-0A this should help immensely. Remember that while you are using your special, you are invulnerable. So if you see that you will be unable to avoid the super beam, just use your special and take no damage! You can't use the VF-0A's special to much effect anyway since its a melee special so might as well use it for something. While this isn't really needed for the normal version of the mission, it will definitely come in handy during the chronicle version where you dont get a pack and the AFOs has alot more health.

Right now, I am stuck trying to get a S on the chronicle version of the the final frontier mission. The queen has ludicrous amounts of health, and the only way to beat it in time is to not get hit at all since you will need the special of the armor pack you start with. Getting hit by anything will more than once will more than likely cause enough damage to cause to the armor to fall off leaving you with the VF-25F's melee special which is crap against the queen. The worst part is that it takes about 7 minutes on the first part to get to that point and if you mess up you gotta start all over.

  13. Couple of things:

The unit list on the previous page is complete, as I finally unlocked the last one.

I've got S or SS ranks on most of the missions now (excluding Chronicle... I gotta beef up some units first). Tips for the last few would be appreciated! They are:

SDF Macross Campaign: Let's Play Game (Battroid Attack), A Sad Doll (Satan Doll)

    Macross Frontier: Aimo (Mother's Lullaby)

Extra: Ishtar, The Super Dimension Fortress Famitsu

    Enemy: Aimo (Koi no Uta)

To elaborate on Graham's question and what Keith and I were saying, none of the units have an overwhelmingly effective-against-everything special like the YF-21 did in MAF. This means that beating a lot of bosses and star units really comes down to spamming Missile RS or whatever special you do have. Units with melee specials are great against star units, but useless against big bosses, so that drops them down a notch. Units with Missile RS tend to be slightly more useful than units with Missle MS or Missile C, and units that have both Missile RS and either Missile MS or Missile C tend to be even better. Units with some kind of FAST packs tend to be the most useful because of elevated stats and an extra layer of health.

The VF-0, SV-51, VF-1, VF-11, and VF-2SS don't have the base stats to really hang with the VF-25, even though they have FAST packs. The YF-19, VF-19A, YF-21, and VF-22 are close, but only three particular units offer any real incentive to go with them over a VF-25: The VF-22S(MFJ), the VF-22S(MJ), and the YF-21, because they have Pin-Point Barriers (the VF-22S(GK) and VF-22S(WG) don't). The YF-21 and VF-22(MJ) lack multi-lock missiles, and the VF-22S(MFJ) lacks Missile RS, but their FAST packs make up for it (and the fact that the YF-21 and VF-22S(MJ)'s specials are useless against big bosses), plus they still allow fighter mode to be use in atmosphere. Especially after you unlock the stat de-limiter and max the PPB's stats, careful use of it can get you through a lot of levels with zero actual damage.

To answer Murphy's question, it's hard to say for sure, because new stuff keeps appearing based on your shop level (so buying tune points for the Type-14 wasn't a total waste, because it'll contribute to your shop level). Here's what I can tell you, though. From top to bottom the shop categories are:

Character: you can buy more pilots and support characters here.

Unit: Unlock units and FAST packs, or buy tune points for unlocked units.

Mode: buy game modes and modifiers

    BGM: unlock more music

Movie: unlocks the prologue and closing movies for the different eras. Don't waste your money.

Wallpaper: Not 100% sure, but I think you can buy more loading screens.

Title: When you play online, you can buy titles for your player card.

Icon: When you play online, you can buy portraits for your player card.

Since I was focusing on the characters you make at the beginning, I'd say just worry about Unit and Mode. Unit's pretty easy to follow. If it's grey, you can't buy it because you already unlocked it. If it's blue, you're buying tune points for a unit you have. If it's black, you're actually unlocking the unit. I think you should be able to unlock most units through regular play, but it can be useful to buy a better one sooner.

As for Mode, that's a little trickier, unless you can at least read katakana. I'll try to highlight a few anyway. Depending on your shop level, you may see one or two options where the third character is a dash. The first and cheaper option will let you tune a unit below it's base stats. The second and more expensive will remove the tune point limit for all units.

One option, beginning with the good ol' Latin letters EX will allow for EX mode. Basically, after you buy it, you'll see a picture of a unit for every mission description. Use that unit for triple tune points.

Lastly (and this is for everyone who can't read Japanese), learn this character. It's usually read as "ji" or "toki", and it means time. One of the more expensive mode options starts with this character. Buying this option will allow you to use units from any era on any mission (for example, the VF-25G in Macross Zero missions, or the YF-21 on Frontier missions).

wait wait, you can play online!?? please teach me how, i never knew.

  14. Well, regarding controls, I prefer Real. I went for it from the very start. I liked Normal in Ace Frontier, but when I knew Ultimate Frontier would have the option to use the new real mode for Fighter, I started drooling. I can even handle speed and quick changes just fine. I'm used to VF-X2 and the PS2 Macross.

Beating the AFOS can be easier than that. Just stay in Gerwalk and keep a considerable distance. Keep firing with the gunpod and when you run out, use the head turret's laser, just change to Battroid and keep running in a perpendicular direction to its line of sight. If you stay behind it, it works better.

When she starts teleporting and looking at you, change to fighter and get the hell away from that place because she'll likely unleash a beam attack. I used the VF-0A.

I've unlocked many things already. Any idea on how to get Klan with her fast pack?

On some good news, I got another PS3. I'm still using my account in case anyone wants to try adhoc party!!

I think I unlocked Klan during the Extra missions. Not sure if S rank was required.
