  1. That's what it started out as, but the last 2/3rds were pretty much constant shooting and violence. That was "shoot em up" formula.

This movie went south for me as soon as

the good guys went and got a bunch of huge guns and embarked on a suicide mission to get back the canister of fluid from the secret underground heavily fortified government testing facility. <(Cliche) That's very standard action/adventure fare and has nothing to do with apartheid or social awareness.

Can you imagine if in Children of Men, the terrorists succeed in capturing the last baby on earth and they bring it to their ultra secret terrorist compound? And then Clive Owen decides that the only thing to do is go get a bunch of guns and take part in a suicide mission to extract the baby from captivity in a huge bloody action-packed blaze of glory? How lame would that be?

A well stated point, but I strongly disagree. I saw the last 2/3 as a warning of the possible consequences of oppression.

Push a person (or group) hard enough, and they might decide that they have nothing to loose. Once that line is crossed, desperate, suicidal violence might be seen as the best option in a no-win situation.

  2. Sorry if this has already been posted; I couldn't find them in any other thread.

I was scrolling thru HLJ & came across these-

    Shiningblade1_11cm_dec2008_atolierS.jpg

    Shiningblade2_11cm_dec2008_atolierS.jpg

The 11cm figures are made by Atelier-Sai, and feature ball-jointed articulation.

    Shiningblade3_11cm_dec2008_atolierS.jpg

    Shiningblade7_11cm_dec2008_atolierS.jpg

I like the look & size of the figures, but I can't find any reviews of them anywhere. Has anyone here purchased them yet? Are they made of ABS or are they PVC? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

  3. You can't say much about the soundtrack when several of Kanno's musics are rip-off from other musicians.

 Holy crap; you aren't kidding! I clicked on the link expecting something similar to a Bebop song, but it's almost the exact same music!!! Point made.

I still stand by my claim that the soundtrack is incredible; ripped off or not. And for me, it is an integral part of Cowboy Bebop. Changing the music for something more 'audience friendly' would drive the nail into the coffin of an already bad idea.

"Reeves explained, "We're taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series.""

Seems it won't be just 1 movie...

That would be a sensible approach, but for a franchise to be viable, the first film has to be a hit with audiences. The first episode of Bebop is one of my least favorite; it wasn't until I watched the episode introducing Ein (which ironically features the Imperial Drag/Seatbelts song) that I was hooked by the series. I guess if the producers made a first film based on the first 3 or 4 episodes of Bebop, it might have a chance of hooking some viewers...

  4. As much as I enjoyed the first Matrix film, the sad fact is that K.R. doesn't have the range to play Spike. Stoner-esque cluelesness isn't the same thing as having an existential attitude.

Besides, one of the things that made Bebop work so well is that it was a series. It took its time introducing us to the characters at a pace that let us become attached to them. Trying to cram a series' worth of character development into a 2 hour movie can't work.

And I get the feeling that the soundtrack would be composed of a bunch of widely accessible, lowest common denominator, top-40 crap. Not that I have anything against crap music; I just don't want it in my Bebop.

  5. Hello folks. I've been thinking about picking up one of the sets of Tachikoma trading figures produced by Organic, but first, I was hoping that someone could give me some information about them. This is the set I'm talking about- http://www.hlj.com/product/ORG02060

I was wondering if these are made of ABS or styrene, or are they PVC/soft plastic? Are they articulated at all? And finally, how tall is the "bonus" Arm-Suit figure that comes with the case?

If you have these figures, please help! Any information at all would be much appreciated!

  6. Hello, macrossworld admins. For some reason, when I try to access the site, I get a page load error-

    "Network Timeout

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.

But if I go through a proxy server, I can pull up the forum with no problem. What causes this?

  7. Just watched up until ep 7. Hope it gets even better.

    It does. ^_^

GGR's episode 9 is out; pretty good episode. Light on action, but lots of character development.

w00ts! Raigyo is back!! How awesome is that??

He probably will get shaved into some Roy Focker-ish character next episode. The preview of the captain getting close to him (without glasses) was hilarious. Makes me think she's gonna kick him in the nuts or something.

Interesting/ironic choice of words! Yeah; his character makes the group dynamic a lot more interesting.

It looks like he's going to loose a lot of Nakiami's attention, however. The missing Xam'd shipmate that was hinted at at the beginning of the series is back for episode 9. A former lover of hers?

Looks like I was right. ^_^
