  1. Scooter: "taking companion experience to the next level"

    3:08

Scooter: You can ROMANCE or BETRAY your companions

Screw the NPCS! or... Screw the NPCs the choice is yours!

Honestly from a RP standpoint this game is probably going to be weird... cause you'll already be rping with the NPCs.

  2. I am reading that blog now... they're being kind of evasive

Scooter: anything about classes or races?

    2:47

Scooter: "unique ones on each faction, and what are cool things you've seen in the movies, and we'll make classes out of that"

    2:47

Scooter: capture the experience of the movies

    2:47

Scooter: if it was in the movie, you should be able to do it in the game

hmm I hope races arn't unique... like All of this race is evil, all of this race is good... I hope they meant classes there. And even then I hope there is some direct crossover... (again so you could fall to the darkside)

  3. You'll be able to choose between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, each with multiple sub-classes. Each sub-class will have its own story. Ohlen likens these stories to those of Han, Luke, etc. -- everyone will have a personal story, but be able to adventure together (just like the movies!).

This worries me slightly... that each class will have a cookie cutter story that will hamper roleplaying unless ignored. I mean true that's no different then CoH with each character getting the chance to run the same story arcs (and the Epic Archetypes having their own special story arcs)... but it could make gameplay a tad repetitive if done wrong for people who want to do multiple characters. I guess it depends on the implementation.

Edit... typed pvp when I meant to type rolepaying... was thinking of my last post

  4. The Old Republic is being developed by BioWare Austin, and is what he calls a "story-driven MMO." So, why haven't they made KOTOR 3? Internally, they team jokes that The Old Republic is KOTOR 3/4/5 and beyond!

That's good one of the things that keeps bringing me back to City of Heroes is the story and characters... and the story to the first KOTOR game rocked.

  5. I never saw Robotech on TV before this year... or if I did it was when I was only a year or two old so I don't really remember it. I got into it when we rented the Macross saga from the local video store they didn't have the rest of Robotech so I thought that the 36 episodes were the complete series... Eventually we found the Robotech comics and other items... it wasn't until Jr. High that I ended up getting exposed to Macross in it's pure form... (the internet was around then but still not super big and I hadn't encountered it yet) I found the perfect collection tapes with original english and Japanese for the different shows (by this time I found the other sagas at othe rental places), Macross Plus aired on TV, and I rented II as well... then I went to anime club started copying tapes of Macross 7, and ordering more with limited exposure to the internet SASE method (no high speed downloads yet...)

My first exposure to bit comet, was also with Macross... from Macross Zero, I remember telling my friends how awesome fast it was, not knowing about peer ratio and when they tried it on files that didn't have seeds they laughed at me.

  6. LOL, you guys kill me. You can make the stretch that Sheryl is some sort of Ranshe/Mao clone with little to not evidence outside of a screen shot and the last name of someone who've we've come to find out had a totally fabricated life, but you can't see the likelyhood of Sherly being one in a line of test subjects based on the scene where she is referred to by Grace and her cohorts as the 9th Fairy?

Again, all I said was that they say Fairy Nine and not 9th Fairy... and I pointed out another case where the exact same wording was used (Mistress Nine in Sailor Moon) where it wasn't the 9th anything.

Oh and finally got around to watching ep 24 (I was busy with school)

So, I'm wondering do you still think it was bad story telling fo her to be an actual Nome and Sheryl's grand-daughter? cause I don't think it was that bad.

  7. Couple of weeks ago I saw "coming soon" posters in the cinema for this movie, right next to the Iron Man ones (which STILL isn't out here until the end of next month, argh!!).... Isn't it too late to cancel no matter what happens?

No... there were teaser posters for the 90s Fantastic Four movie, which the producers stated they had no intention of releasing (at least that's what I heard).

  8. didnt marvel already published "manganized" marvel heroes..?

LOL at the spidey vid with a robot...

There was the "Marvel Manga Verse" which was done by Vietnamese(I think) American Ben Dunn of Antarctic Press and Ninja High School fame... and there true manga of Spider-man and X-men in the 90s and again recently... but this would be the first time there was an actual Anime produced for the Japanese market that I'm aware of.

Yes there was an 80s Toku (linked above) of Spider-man but that's different.

  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dQyJr1o44E

Even if it was animated by a japanese studio it doesn't feel like...

I get the impression that the japanese don't do their best when it is for western companies.

I don't know about that, though usually it's the case that with outsource animation it does feel a bit different because they have to meet the demands of the western company. However I'd say that was noticibly anime-esc, it actually reminded me of Armitage III.

  10. For the Japanese market I'd say Wolverine is a must, because like Batman he's very much a Ronin, a Samurai without a a master who is looking to find honor and fulfillment, but I'd saddle him along with either Shadowcat or Jubilee to give a moe aspect to appeal to the Otaku. (preferably Shadowcat, but that's just my preference).

Spider-man, I'd say could work because you have this kid who's trying to not be as the Japanese would say "the nail that stands out", but can't help but be different... I think a lot of Japanese especially the Otaku crowd can understand the metaphor there.

Iron Man... well his main enemy is Chinese and there's always Japanese concern over Chinese criminal activities within there borders... so it'd be interesting to see if there were any reactions on that. Honestly, while I think they'd have to keep Wolverine a Gaijin, to make him work, Iron Man would probably have to be Japanese, I could see him at the head of an influential Keiritsu, or old style Zaibatsu that works in robotics and feel's dishonored because his technology is being used for evil. It'd be funny to see him as a Japanese buisnesman though, getting sloshed at Karaoke parlors!

    hmmm... what about a fourth?

Captain America despite having fans worldwide can't be really specialized directly for the Japanese market for obvious reasons.

I think an anime of the fantastic four would be interesting, but I don't have any commentary on why it would work... it'd just be cool to see a real anime take on Doom.

  11. Marketing/advertising was nowhere near as good/broad as it should have been. Sure we got ads for the comic packs later on in Toyfare and whatnot, but gvc was a big push at retail, with very little media push. It didn't help that no cartoon was even made til Sigma 6, and the Spystroops/VVV movies were forgettable.

Next year we get a movie, comics, cartoon, and toys for basically everything, Next year will make the joe relaunch in 2002 look bare minimum.

umm... sorry to come back to this, but I was sorting through my comic collection, and I noticed a lot of Spy Troops and VvV adds and not just in the GI Joe title itself but in various marvel comics... so there was ads, and they were in the right place promoting the DVD release which would in turn promote the toys.

I'm pretty sure there were even some tv spots for the DVDs when they came out, (yeah they weren't great films... but still).

Honestly, I think they were using the right channels to get to the collectors.

  12. Yeah not sure about that either. But having skipped the whole book series, it's easy to not think too hard about it.

Sounded like they were heading towards the anti-hero bit at first. Now I'm not sure. Course, I haven't been buying these comics either so just going by what I read on the net.

Well he definitely changes and becomes a little less anti-hero-esc at times. But the interesting thing is after the first book, there will be whole story arcs that don't involve him... there's lots of snapshots of everything that's going on.

I've only read the first two graphic novels, but I like it.

  13. For a GI Joe or Dragon scale figure. (Kind of like Henshin Cyborg...) But that would probably be a discussion for another thread...

Nah, I meant a figure roughly 20" or so to tower over my 3 3/4" GI Joes.

But yeah discussion for another thread.

  14. That is an awesome lego creation.

News for SW Transformers fans, the pilots will no longer be included with the toys. This apparently cut costs for Hasbro. To me the pilots were one of the redeeming factors of the toys. Alas, I bought a few months back, to get my Transformers fix, but they don't feel like must-have toys(except Death Star Darth Vader), they are okay, at best, decent. There are so many things that stop them from being great toys. With that said, the Marvel crossovers versions seem to be designed much better.

Has anyone picked up the new V-19 Torrent Starfighter?

Eh to me I prefer to leave the pilots anyway... I think it would be cooler if it was the Autobots and Decpticons in the Transfromers Galaxy (hey they had an intergalactic battle already via Attatrix). But yeah, the only one that interests me too is the Death Star.
