Luckily for Ranka, she has a very good friend like Nanase helping and supporting her. I am beginning to like Nanase more and more.

There is a shot when one of the Vajra's eggs cracked, you see the three eyes of a vajra hatching glowing from the dark, the next shot you see the green alien squirrel/slug, that has been following Ranka, has 3 eyes ! My guess Ranka's "pet stalker" is a Vajra !

BTW, how come Klan's team mates from Pixie was not with her ?! She would not have so much trouble with Brera if the other 2 meltrans was flying with her ! Klan was the only one flying alone in that mission.

I recall hearing of this stuff a while back, and I think it was in english. Supposedely it came from the chronology of a Macross videogame - possibly one of the non-canon game that were released at the taime of Macross II to link Macross II with the original Movie/series (Macross 2036 or something like that)

I don't think there is any video game pertaining to Macross II, but someone did mention that the NUNS appeared after the events in the PS1 game, VF-X2.

The American Anime DVD industry is dying/shrinking, we should be supporting the industry by buying originals. Granted, the dubs in the Macross series is not fantastic, but it is not bad either. If we want to see titles like Macross Frontier or Macross Zero coming to the States, we should buy originals to encourage them to bring them here.

Yet another theory to throw out there regarding why the VF-27 shot Luca's gunpod - maybe he was after Luca's sensor data?

Bear with me...

And there's going to be a healthy dose of speculative guesses here...

The Vajra capital ship shows up specifically to kill Kaitos as it's about to reach the edge of the Fold Distortion. If Kaitos had crossed out of the distortion, then it would have been able to jump clear. For whatever reason, the Vajra really wanted to kill that ship, and presumeably its fellow Galaxy ship as well (i.e. the one that the Frontier forces saved). It would have been fairly easy for the capital ship to show up at the start of the fight and blow up both of the Galaxy ships, but for whatever reason the big Vajra ship didn't show up until Kaitos was nearly clear.

Further, some of the comments by the Frontier leadership when the big Vajra ship shows up suggests that they've never seen such a ship before (although they've no doubt speculated that these ships exist). So presumeably there's some special occasion for the ship to show up, and it appears to be to keep Kaitos from escaping the fold distortion.

Given that the Vajra were freely attacking the Kaitos but the big ship didn't show up until literally just as it was needed, it's possible that the big ships haven't been attacking Galaxy. Instead they've been held in reserve to deal with fleeing ships that get close to the edge of the fold distortion (I don't know why the Vajra wouldn't commit at least some of them to attacking Galaxy; but as I said this theory does wander a bit far into speculation).

If Galaxy for some reason wanted data on the big ships, then the easiest way to get that would be to do something that would cause the big ship to appear, and then have units on hand to scan for data. The two Galaxy ships are therefore ordered to make a run for it when the Vajra attack the fleet, presumeably with the stated goal of reaching Frontier. Unbeknownst to the Kaitos and its fellow ship, a flight of VF-27s is dispatched to secretly watch the result. If a Vajra capital ship appears, then the VF-27s are to scan the ship and collect as much data as they can before folding back to the Galaxy fleet (or other base that they're operating from). The VF-27s are to leave the two fleeing Galaxy ships to their fate, provided that the VF-27s can get the sensor data.

So the Galaxy ships make a run for it. And then they blunder into Frontier's forward recon team and Frontier dispatches a relief force to retrieve the two ships. The SMS Skull team deploys its VF-25 Catseye unit, which just happens to be in position when the Vajra ship comes out of fold and blows up Kaitos. With its better sensor suite, Luca's VF-25 would be able to get much more information on the Vajra ship. Further, the Vajra capture Luca, and place him directly in the center of the ship with his sensor suite still intact. (note the quick glance at Luca's sensor pod when Altoh locates him) It literally CANNOT get better than that as far as sensor scans are concerned. So Brera Sterne heads into the Vajra ship not to help Luca, but instead to recover his sensor data. Then Altoh shows up, and Brera hides to see what happens. Altoh loses his plane but it looks as if he'll be able to blast Luca's plane free with the gunpod, so Brera blasts the gunpod without damaging the fighter itself (which houses the all-important sensor data). Before Brera can do anything else, however, the Macross Quarter arrives and Brera is forced to give up on his plan.

There's enough guesswork in there that any number of facts introduced into the series in the next few episodes could easily overturn the whole thing. But it does make sense, after a fashion...

(aside from the question of why the Vajra wouldn't have committed their capital ships directly to the attack on the Galaxy Fleet, why Brera wouldn't just ask Frontier for the scan data, and why Galaxy would think it worth sacrificing multiple ships of its escort fleet in the hopes that Brera could get a scan of a Vajra capital ship).

Hi JR, I think there maybe some basis to your theory, I just rewatched the English sub. and capture these 2 images. It would appear that the VF-27 is indeed collecting/absorbing data, you can see that the visor of the VF-27 is swarming with data (the colored lines). And inside the VF-27's hatch, Brera appears to be analysing the data (the colored lines)

I was wary of this from the beginning, voice acting just isn't very good quailty, it seems like it always draws on the very small talent pool here in North America. Contrast with the 80s where there was an explosion of animation and cartoons and you had some seriously good actors with a lot of work available.

Funny thing is, I bought the first disc when it came out with the box for the set and never watched it for God knows what reason.

I had no idea whatsoever that is had an english dub on it and came across it on demonoid and was like "wtf, there's no english version of "Macross".

ha ha no worries, same thing happened to me, I bought the Animeigo ver but kept it aside for some time. But once I started to watch it I was hooked again and kept on going ! Ah sure brings back memories viva Macross !

Ironic...I was just watching SDF Macross Episode 4, the episode where Hikaru & Minmay was stranded in the SDF-1's hull. After 12 days, their situation was getting hopeless with food running out and no exits to be found. Minmay was extremely depressed as she was afraid that their bodies would be eaten by rats after they starved to death. So she asked Hikaru to die together with her by jumping into outer space. Hikaru refused and assured they would get out eventually. That's when the construction crew/rescuers found them

i agree. however, i don't think there will be answers in this coming episode. after such a fantastic mecha action festival, i'm pretty sure ep 8 will be your pre-requisite breather and standard character-interaction episode.

yeah, i also wish this show can go on. like graham, each completed episode brings with it a sadness of something good about to end. on the other hand, i also wouldn't like it to drag on into oblivion, just for the sake of continuing the series. breaking the series down into 24ep seasons could be a good idea.

Yeah definitely, as long as it is a good ending with an epic space battle. Since the producers know that Macross is such a cashcow, they should do another Macross TV series every two years after Macross F like the Gundam franchise !
