  1. Absolutely stunning coloring, brushwork (digital, yeah?).

The face is very cute and expressive. The pose could be more vivacious, though. Know what I mean? It's gorgeous art, but the body could be more alive. I can't quite articulate it, but it's the same problem an illustration professor saw in me, and now I've got a good eye for it.

  2. Woo. I'm now back fully online and can post stuff.

Here's a bit of a doodle after watching the last episode of Frontier ;)

This is my favorite of your works so far, S-Girl. The loose sketch captures a sense of fluidity that is sometimes missing in finished pieces. The paintjob is, as usual, pretty impressive.

  3. Rather than post alot of screens of the progress i took alot of the highlights and just put it into one image. I love that toy. but for the painting I took out the joint in the chest and cut the arm out of the image for a while, painting the whole nose section before putting the arm back in and covering up some pretty cool details. oh well. Like i said, I do love the pose.

Fantastic. Did you draw the original flats/line art, trace the original photo, or just apply some effect?

I'm starting to feel like I need to liberate the unused wacom from my office, and find myself a copy of Painter.

  4. I had some free time this weekend. (which is rare) and because I am really looking forward to the release of the Revoltech release of the YF-21. I took this pic and re-drew it for a wallpaper. And thought i would share.

The original is 30 inch by 20 and thought I might do a print on the work printer. I can email it if anyone is interested.

How did you do that? Which is not to say it's so awesome I can't fathom how it was possible, though it is about that awesome, but what I mean is, what technique did you use? What medium or media? That's one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time.

  5. Looking good! :)

Maybe this schematic can help you with the proportions:

Yes, yes it can. Awesome find man. I'm going to see if I can tweak my model now with making me tear my hair out. I've been having so many computer issues these past few days that I almost walked away from the chair forever.

  6. When you're posting turn on HTML and then embed the code.

Aw man. I just tried activating the little HTML button next to "Insert Special Item", copied my embed code, and then saved the html, then posted, and I got nothing. This after rendering that movie kept TURNING MY COMPUTER OFF. Not crashing it. Not freezing it. Turning it off. Stroke of bad luck over here.

  7. Awesome... you can actually post it here...

Huh, I can never get YouTube embed tags to work here... how'd you do that?

Meanwhile... since rendering more movies seems to be a crashfest, here's some stills. You'll note that the proportions are not exact on the model. This is because every picture I've found has totally different proportions. No real schematics to base it on, just sort of approximating all of the different references I used.

Color comes from this here model.

  8. This is a cel shaded work in progress DYRL VF-1 ejection seat. You'll note that there are a few missing pieces. This isn't going to be the highest poly model in the world, so I might ignore some of the bolts and fasteners. Obviously the underside of the seat is not yet done.

  9. Funny thing is that this series is seriously affecting my work projects LOL. My boss was wondering why my character designs are starting to look Sheryl and Alto.

What do you do, professionally? Can we see some of your paid work?

  10. Yes, I do appreciate the crit. It's something a few people have said with respect to some other pictures as well so you would definitely be on to an area that I need to find a way to address, whether it be starting with looser sketches...

Looser sketches may very well address that issue. One thing that I learned, actually very recently, by taking an art class (for the first time in years and years and years) is that the devil is in the details, but not in the way you might expect. When I focus on details, and outlines, I tend to lose the fluidity of a pose, so I've started really focusing on the gesture, with loose, rough lines, leaving out tons of detail, until the pose looks alive, then I go back in flesh out the picture. It's very counter to how I original learned, which was with outlines.

Again, I think that you've got a great handle on your coloring and shading and your faces are gorgeous. You also have a knack for portraying the clothing in a simple yet effective way. That's something I have yet to master. Just loosen those bodies up and you'll be posting art that will blow people away.

  11. What would that consist of? Alto? hehehe.

Here's the digital version I am rushing to get ready to take with me to Expo :D

I think your digital coloring is gorgeous. I also really liked your hand drawn color job. The face is very pretty and delicate, and you've got a great grasp on the shadows and highlights. I also really liked the Alto picture. My one critique of your Sheryl picture is that she feels a bit static -- like, perhaps a bit stiff. Know what I'm saying? That said, I think it's a really good picture, I just kinda wanted to put a little constructive criticism, because I think you've got great talent.

  12. Thanks ,I'm getting alot of good complements on some of these clip which is great...it helps the motivation for a 2 hour movie.

On to other matters, I am having trouble sinking the new HD video to my audio tracks......it will at first, then later on it just goes WAY out to left field and will move to fast for the video....I think I'm gonna have to work on this a lil more.

Out of curiosity, what software are you using? And what codec/format etc is the new video in?

  13. Just to get an idea of what I'm dealing with, here is a rather nice comparison of the old Footage I was using to the now HD which made me go "Oh yeah, no brainer there."

I also got the fp/s to match what I'm currently using, quality is still good and I'm excited to be using this for the project.

Whoa. That difference is incredible. The SD version is crawling with artifacts, and suddenly there's a whole other level detail available in the HD. It reminds me of when Akira first made the jump to DVD, remastered. Though I missed the old "Just when my coils were hitting the green line" dub, I was amazed at how much detail I had never seen before.

I'm even more excited for your dub now. By the way, I really dug the Minmay/Hikaru scene you posted recently.

  14. I am going to make improvements and complete them both as close as possible to how i drew them in my fanart

(found in the earlier pages of this VFGirls thread)

By the way, I also loved your fanart. Awesome job, with the pencil, the computer, and the foam!

(The hands on the 22 are genius)

  15. That's the coolest thing I've seen in a very long time. Congratulations. The arms on the 21 are incredible! And one of the best details is actually just the bodysuit that the YF-19 model is wearing. The coloring brings the whole piece together.

Question: Are you gonna add any headgear to the costumes?

  16. Okay, here's the first rigging/skinning test for your enjoyment. As you can maybe see (although that's a low-quality file... I cannot get youTube to play nicely with me), there's some tearing of the mesh on the left hand. I haven't finished weighting the vertices (spell check thinks that word is wrong, and would prefer I use the less technically correct "vertexes") on the actual head/neck area, so the skin is bursting out of the suit there, so that's a problem in hard vacuum.
