Im fairly sure the low poly versions could in some cases help the development work they could be used as building blocks etc.
Since no one here is trying to make money out of it mutual help is obviously good, up shoot of it I suppose is more Macross, which lets face it can't be bad
I whole-heartedly agree. We're getting the chance to participate in the creation of something we all love, as well as building our skills, and really engaging in community, it's great.
Below is a list of the main props we're employing in Aria. Many of these are well underway in medium- or high-poly glory. But I'm not sure we have any of these in a low-poly format.
The storyline takes place between 2014 and 2016, so any craft in service for either the Zentraedi or UN Spacy are fair game.
Stuff we're developing (or have already developed)
VF-1B Valkyrie
VF-1B damaged
VF-1B w/ Fast Pack
VF-4 Lightning III
ARMD-Class Space Carrier
Oberth Class Space Destroyer
Oberth Class Space Destroyer damaged
MBR-04 Destroid Tomahawk Mk VI
Nousjadeul-Ger
Nousjadeul-Ger w/ Missile Pods
Nousjadeul-Ger w/ Missile Pods
Reguld
Thurvel-Salan Class Battleship
Thurvel-Salan Class Battleship damaged
Medium-Scale Gunboat
Additional units I'd love to see in the background:
UNS
Lockhee SF-3A Lancer II Space Fighter
Northrom QF-3000E Ghost Fighter-Bomber
Zentraedi
Picket Patrol Ship
Quiltra Queleual Class Landing Ship Tank
Queadol-Magdomilla Class Fleet Command Battleship
Nupetiet-Vergnitzs-Class Fleet Command Battleship

yeah. I was on CGTalk a few years ago. I'm glad to hear these were inspirational for you. Seeing many of the old timers work made me want to do one initially too. They were also extremely helpful and forthcoming with advice.
I do have animations, but they are extremely brief. I'll see if I can't find a few. Nothing more than transformation tests though.
Still, I'm sure we can all agree we'd like to see said tests. I know I would.

Can I venture that these two threads may be of use. Both parties are doing similar things and some mutual work would be very beneficial to all involved.

and

I am going to post reference to this in both these threads as I do believe that this could be constructive.
Yeah, I've been checking up on the Mod project regularly. I don't play HW2 but I think modding is pretty darn awesome, and I used to dabble in code (still do in MaxScript) so I'm always impressed when somebody convinces some program to do stuff it was never really intended to do. We have need of low-poly units for our backgrounds, and it's plausible that we might be able to provide low-poly versions of some of the stuff we generate. That's not up to me, unless you want some low-poly characters.
And Rodavan's work is just plain hot.
I'm excited to see so much creative activity going on here right now. Frankly, modding is what made me believe that producing a fan-film in this manner would be possible.

I might be able to pull up some models not sure have too look. What level of model would you like to have. I can probably get anywhere from 1k to 3k model, depending on my current inventory. Lately I have been working on location stuff on a game I have been working on so I don't have much of that stuff. But one of the locations I am working on is a downed zent cruiser. One will be nose in and one will belly down.
Reeeallllyy...
Somebody will be getting in touch soon...

If there are any game modders with low poly ships who would like to help out, we are seeking some low poly models to populate the background during several sequences.
Specifically we're looking for UN Spacy and Zentraedi capital ships from the era between Space War One and Macross M3.
Other than that, not much to report. We're running tests and building models and sketching things. I can't wait to show y'all something, though.

That's cool anyway.

I think I can clear this up.
Nobody on the planet has the cajones to tell a young inner city youth that he is the man as of this moment... dog... in the same confident tone that he would tell a knight that he was, in fact, the last one, or that he might use to tell a chemical weapons specialist that only losers whine about their best. Nobody but Sean Connery, that is.
Too bad that mofo retired.

I own two copies of the game and the manual. Give me a day or so to scan the box and art from the manual, and i'll post it up. I will be working next day or 2, so when I have the next day off, you'll get them.
You da man now, dog.
That's right, I said it.
-
I've always wanted to see some decent shots of the flight suits from Macross M3, but I haven't been able to find any hi-rez, or even high-quality images from that game. If anybody owns the manual or box art, and could scan the character art for me, I'd be greatly appreciative.

But he said Macross.
Details for Ace Combat Frontier:
Macross Frontier is a small peaceful colonization vessel, that gets attacked by the Vajra. You play some unnamed pilot in Frontier whose squadron does a good job with the initial counterattack... and then OMG the Vajra uses its super h4x weapon (built by some Protoculture dude) to pwn all the planes of Frontier, so Frontier's military falls back. Then you fly some random missions, and devise a plan to take down the h4x weapon... yea wohooo! The Vajra's trump card is down... then Frontier's forces advances all the way to the Vajra's capital, and then: "CRAP OMG WTF" ... yep, another super weapon, which Frontier's elite squadron promptly destroys by flying inside it. Finally, you fly into the sunset and AWACS goes like, "War is bad... mmmkay?"
Oddly enough, that's the synopsis for the entire anime...
That's really funny, actually.

This was posted on the Starship Modeler website sometime ago, and may already be known, but it's still my favourite, an fits the VF-4 Lightning perfectly. The Japanese cranes in the background are also a great homage to the origins of Macross.
That is awesome. Straight awesome.

Tnx, but im a beginner to 3D modeller, this is my first model in 3D, and also i dont have much time for work on PC, but if you want some help for model a unit tell me, anyway: here my first texturing test and first wallpaper Galaxy!

You might be a beginner, but I think a lot of people are impressed none the less.

Cool.

I'm making a simple video from the Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation trailer. It's like someone's redux of an Ace Combat 5 trailer with Macross Zero footage. I'm making it with Macross Frontier filling in the gaps, however. I'll update this whenever I get through some more work.
Tell me what you think, so far!
I don't know much about the game Ace Combat, but I'm a fan of making trailer mashups.

I'm happy to say that VAs are recording lines now, and the modeling staff has expanded.

When S-47 Berkut is able to remove the japanese subtitles out of DYRL nicely, then the DRYL fan edits won't need blurring or cropping.
I'll have to ask S-47 Berkut what resolution he is using for his DYRL fan edit. In order to get the closest aspect ratio, I ended up using 864X480 to try to match to the original remastered DYRL video.
Once S-47 Berkut has done his magic, then a even better edition of the remastered DYRL can be put together plus fixed up versions of DYRL fan edits.
I did a little sound filtering soundsoap2 for the remastered DYRL stereo audio for pop/crackle removal. I couldn't hear any pops on the filetered audio, so I'll just save that .wav sound file for now.
864 is what I meant, not 856. Your 864x480 file is likely the perfect resolution and aspect ratio.

Yes and no.
I've created a new video for the dvd menu, and I still got 16 hours until Cypher receives the video cause it's a slow upload.
Then with what free time he has will be putting in the hard sub and trying to blur out the Japanese text.
I also got to figure out how to make a possible commentary track which could be a second disc or just non existent.
Chances are this wont see a holiday release.
Dammit. I rarely feel like this, but right now, I wish I had a Mac. I could hook your DVD up so lovely, then. It'd be insane.
Oh well.

After seeing that video, I suggested we skip the Aria project and do something where the next Macross Pop Idol was actually a hip-hop artist.
Update: Last day of the term. My robot does battle this afternoon. This one, sadly, does not transform...
You know, I used to think piloting a giant robot by rocking out with a guitar was somewhat of a stretch for my internal logic, but when I considered piloting a giant robot by rocking the mic...
Hmm... a Sound Force made up of an emcee, a dj, and a beatboxer... Macross Aria Dynamite?
Good luck in the robo challenge. Remember, even non-transforming robots can still contribute to an Itano Circus.
It does have micromissiles, right?

Yeah it's full screened, I don't really have an interest in widescreen at this late in the game seeing how I'm having someone else now take care of the sub work and encoding. I'll see if he can get it to wide screen, but I'm not holding my breath for it.
Just to be clear, Hikuro's version of DYRL is the full picture, but squished to be 4x3. If you're using a player like SMPlayer or VideoLAN, you can force it to view the image in 16x9, which shows it in the proper aspect ratio. WiMP is not terribly good at letting you make your own choices, so then it displays improperly. There are three ways to address this, depending on the final end user's hardware.
1) Create a file that is 16x9 with SQUARE 1:1 pixels. That would mean the file size would be 720x405 or 856x540. We often see things that are 856x480 which is 16x9 with an NTSC 0.9 ratio pixel (TV pixels are not squares, but actually rectangles -- you'll notice that 4x3 would actually equal 720x540, but with D1 video, due to the rectangle pixel, 4x3 is actually equal to 720x486, and with DV 720x480).
2) Make sure that the file is coded to be understood as a 16x9 image, so that whatever player can decode and display properly. I'm not sure that a regular playback format has this option, but when burning a DVD you can tell it whether or not your 720x480 file is meant to be 4x3 or 16x9. At least in DVD Studio Pro, which is the only DVD burning software I have any experience with.
3) Hardware. If you have a monitor or DVD player that allows you to force the aspect ratio, you can hit the 16x9 button, and you'll be set.
If it's confusing, it may help to think about feature films. When they shoot a movie, a widescreen movie, they're shooting (most likely) on 35mm film. This is the same stuff that you put into a 35mm still camera (if anybody still remembers those). So how do they fit a wide 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 image into a little 35mm frame? Via anamorphic lenses. These lenses SQUEEZE the image so that it fits into a smaller box. Then, when projecting the film, you have another set of lenses that expands the image back to its original size. This is what's happening with Hikuro's file. Basically, the image has been squeezed to fit into the smaller box (4x3) and we need to tell our players to stretch it back out.

Looking pretty sweet so far.

Shouldn't that be Family Matters version?

Just wondering if any of the modelers for this Mod would be interested in contributing their models or new work to Macross Aria, which has its own thread now: macross aria thread and website.
It's just such a shame for those models to never see the light of day. And I sure know I was impressed by them.

The exact release date is not official yet. But stay tuned, we do have a date for which we're aiming.
