    Question for the hive mind.

Although I've built a great many Gunpla over the years they have for the most part been MG, RG and a very small smattering of HG, as well as some older non-grade kits back in the early 90s.

However, I have never built a Perfect Grade kit. Now I'm thinking about it.

While I'm mostly a UC timeline fan there are unfortunately no UC-era PG kits that I really like (I'd love a PG V Gundam, V2 Gundam, RX-79G Ground Type, RX-93, XM1 Crossbone, but alas they don't exist). Existing PG UC-era kits such as the RX-79, MKII, Unicorn, GP-01/GP-01FB, Zeta are just not Mobile Suits designs that I'm attracted to.

So the only PG Mobile Suits that I like enough  to buy are non-UC era designs, with my favorites being the Exia or the Strike Gundam.

So for those that have built the Exia or Strike PG kits, which is the better choice in terms of  fun factor, frustration factor, details, gimmicks, long term durability, poseability, long term tightness of joints etc?

If you're a fan of the RX-78-2, I would wait for the Perfect Grade Unleashed /2.0 that's coming out.

  2. Definitely not what I was expecting to be announced but I did kind of wish there was a WZC 2.0 after building the RG so I guess I got my wish? lol Also the HiRM was all janky in the looks and quality from what I've heard.

I hope it is going to be an all new kit because the part separation of the head in the 1.0 (which is still in my backlog after 10+ years) is bad.

I’m not sure if I should get that or wait for a hg kit. The recent hg kits have been nice. I guess I’m torn between the detail as a compromise to the accuracy of the tv version. The Leo was fun and I think hg of the tallgeese would be good as well.

Why not just get the normal RG and paint it TV colors?

I really like Tamiya spray lacquer but I still use it through an airbrush. (or I did when I was still building models).

One down side to spray cans is it is less efficient than airbrushing so there's a lot of "wasted" paint especially with small parts. Tamiya just released a line of bottled lacquer in all the spray can colors.

Thanks guys! I think that I’ll pull the models apart into assemblies and paint them that way.

The one I’m really wanting to do is a Zeta Plus, which I want to do a Custom USAF low vis scheme on, with some nods to the original scheme.

I like to do my painting with Tamiya lacquer spray cans. It's fast drying and durable. Very convenient if you don't want to setup an airbrush and spray booth.

  6. Recently finished Iron Blooded Orphans and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't even look into it when it was announced / released and it wasn't until I saw pictures of the up coming MG and that sexy sexy frame that the design grew on me. I needed something to hold me over until its release and discovered the Full Mechanics line. With the full inner frame and pretty decent color separation, I would say it is on par with early master grades. More pictures in the link.

  7. I recently discovered the existence of "chip" LEDs that are pre wired from Evan's Design so I decided to give it a shot with the RG Tallgeese. The head design was simple and allowed for easy modding to fit the LED. I didn't take into account for the light bleeding through the plastic but it does give it a pretty cool "transcendence" effect that I'm alright with.
