  1. I would only add (and David and I have discussed this on a previous thread, I remember) that the Macross compendium lists Shin's F-14 as an F-14A+, which, AFAIK isn't a true variant (could be mistaken, I don't keep up with these things like some guys do COUGHCOUGHDAVIDCOUGHCOUGH) and states that it incorperates overtechnology.

....why they'd use the out of date cockpit is beyond me though... the side-by-side DDI setup of the D tomcats is far more streamlined and efficient.

  2. I just wanna say that Gundam Wing has the best background music in any anime I've heard in my entire life. Yes, edging out even Macross Plus.

This time I have to agree with Keith.... I think you're nutters... but ok.

Two-mix is good...but Yokko Kanno is WORLDS better.

  3. Bilbo and Frodo were both bearers of the ring. As such they were blessed with unusually long life (although, Bilbo must've been nearing his own end). As such they travelled west with the elves. It wasn't mentioned in the movie, but Arwen fashioned an amulet for Frodo that was supposed to serve as a ring-substitute and lessen the pain from his wound. Gandalf, as the bearer of the secret flame of arnor (one of the 3 elven rings) was also given long life and travelled with the elves. As Sam for a brief time also wore the ring, he would later be allowed to travel to the west, but that event was not chronicled.

LOL, Legolas and Gimli went on a little sightseeing tour of middle earth (the forests of fangorn and the caverns at Helm's Deep, to be exact) and then later travelled west together.

  4. It's probably not in there because it isn't part of the Canon macross world. I can't say for certain (I don't own the book myself). I didn't think it looked so hot... certainly not as cool as a standard VF-1. and the gunpod looks like someone hit it with a retard stick.

  5. Ahem...the 1/72 scale people.

True, there has to be some love there (they're the only ones!)... but since the Yamato 1/72 line consisted of only MacPlus valks, it's kinda in a different category. The 1/72 HCMs were really something else for their time, but the 1/60 line seriously outshined them. Those that bought into the 1/55 MPC lineup got to see just how bad a blown up version of the HCM is compared to the 1/60. In terms of detail and OVERALL posability, the Yamato ate the toynami for breakfast... at least, in my opinion.

  6. yeah, that's what I was thinking.... The VF-1S Hikaru is just Aesthetically WRONG without fastpacks... but alas, I can only spend so much at a time and I do have other things to pay for (this badboy set me back probably until mid january at the soonest!), Maybe soon though!

  7. My first 1/48 (Hikaru VF-1S) should be on it's way soon from Kevin (ship it out soon kev, I can't wait!!) and I'm excited to finally get to handle one for myself. With any luck, I'll start hunting down fastpacks for my birthday

  8. Here in Arkansas, my valk collection is pretty safe. Yes, we're in tornado alley but they're pretty rare actually and more rare is the case where there is extensive damage (not saying it doesn't happen... in fact, people who live in Van Buren get pounded incessantly by them and I watched one jump my house 2 years ago and destroy everything on the other side of the highway but that was the only one in 10 years I've had to deal with) but most of the state is pretty cool. The New Madrid does shake every once in a great while but usually only once every few years and then not more than a 2 on the R scale.

Move out to Arkansas! Your valkyries will be safe and so will your family! (that is... if the humidity doesn't get to you first)

-hurricanes: We only get nice showers and occasional thunderstorms from hurricanes out of Louisiana.

    -earthquakes: as I said... a 2.0 makes headline news...c'mon...

-tornadoes: Far western Arkansas gets them alot (out of Oklahoma), but the River Valley is really safe as is most of the rest of the state.

    -Forest Fires: Virtually non-exsistant.

-Gangs: Only if you live in Ghetto downtown Little Rock or Pine Bluff... anywhere else? Nadda.

    -Mudslides: never happen.

-Ice: maybe 2 days out of the whole year....

    -Blizzards: yeah right...

-Floods: They can happen, but again.. once every 5 years or so...

No safer place to display your collection!

  9. What's to say that they just didn't stick the cockpit section and head unit of a VF-1D on Max's VF-1A? We know from the beggining of the tv series that the cockpit section is removable. Seems it would be easier to just repaint these two components than an entire fighter.

Yes, me and another member got into this pretty heavilly. the TIAS books had schematics for it and everything. They clearly listed it as a VF-1D. The torsos are completely different on the two aircraft and cockpits could not be exchanged.

  10. And seriously, who has the supeirority complex. Someone who expects a product to be presented in its original form, or someone who expects a product to be changed to appeal to ignorant bias's (and not liking something because it's in its original language, or its original aspect ratio is an ignorant bias).

There are no bars on the freakin' top or bottom, and why such people believe that anyone would crop the top & bottom off of a picture boggles the mind (while it does happen in rare case's to "fake" a widescreen effect, that's a whole other conversation).

Who has the superiority complex? He who chastises the idiom of those who want something different (*coughcoughYOUcoughcough*)

You've made it clear how YOU choose to view your anime best... no need to belittle others for what they prefer. Honestly... as long as they aren't watching it with you what does it matter? Give it a rest man.

  11. It has been predominantly believed that M:SV was more in the Macross II timeline due to the nature of the Valkyrie designs. Remember, Kawamori and company had NOTHING to do with this game... so looking for links with Macross Zero or Macross Plus are foundless. Especially since the game was out long before the other two series were.

chances are it's either on it's own, or part of the MII universe... IT IS NOT CANON

  12. [Whiny Sarcasm mode]

Meh, why bother??? Everyone else on this site probably thinks this crew can't hack the parts.... Unless it's the original actors speaking in english, it just isn't good enough! (even THAT may be bad

    [/Whiny Sarcasm mode]

Can't wait to hear how they do, go dubs!

  13. [Rant mode]

You know, I don't know why anyone bothers putting up a list like this.... all anyone ever does is bitch about how they aren't good enough.... damn people, just listen to the damn Japanese track if you can't handle it seeing as how most of the whiners on this thread won't even give the english one a shot. Quit whining or buy out the damn company and do a better job yourselves.

......wow, forget being thankful that it's getting a release stateside or something... just for spite, I hope they voice-cast the same group that did Robotech for Macross Zero, just to piss the whiners off.

    [/Rant mode]

  14. here is something i can't understand

why would anybody buy those old macross valk toys! the other day on e-bay i saw one going for more than a yamato...which is obviously better!

I mean i know they are vintage and all but man do they look like crap!!!!

i mean really people just take a good look at them!!!!

    anybody have any thoughts?

You have SERIOUS damage-control issues, dude...

the old 1/55 line ROCKS. The newer Yamatos may be more aestheically pleasing, but the Bandai/Takatokus have stood the test of time. They are durable, reasonably accurate (they at least LOOK like a Valkyrie) and are a decent compromise of all three modes. The Macross toy collecting world would not be where it is today without these cornerstones of achievement.

  15. I took one year of Shorin-Ryu Karate when I was in the first grade,

In high school I picked up Tae Kwon Do (USTF/later ITF). We did a lot of Jujitsu, Judo, and Kendo as well. I made it to Green Belt Superior before I had to quit due to financial and time constraints (in our school, a "superior" designation was given to those in the class that had a particularly good grasp of the techniques and patterns for that belt and were usually assigned as classroom aides to help those who weren't getting it).... that was after 4 years of training, so my instructor wasn't exactly handing out belts, we earned 'em pretty hard. I didn't think so at first, but when a red belt from a rival school attended a ground fighting seminar and was easilly taken down by pretty much everyone in attendance (including an enthusiastic yellow belt), I began to realize how much more discipline and effort went into each of our belts. We learned patterns and techniques on our regular classes, and friday nights were established as "fight night", when the free-sparring clinics were held.

I do think belts are an excellent way to measure out success and divide up teachings to make it easier for the student to grasp a section, exhibit it for the instructor and then advance to the next level

I still know most of my techniques (although joint-locks and arm-bars are all I've ever had to do in a defense scenario), but I've completely forgotten all of my patterns

  16. Just because Yamato included a Zero-type atmospheric suit pilot with it's low-vis does NOT mean that it will be seen in Zero... I wish people would quit jumping to this conclusion. Possible? Yes, Guaranteed? NO.

I think, given the way time has progressed, in this case it would be logical to assume that a standard VF-1 would have most of those options Graham listed. With one or two exceptions, such as active stealth (which strikes me as pretty high tech) and maybe gunpod payload, I'd think everything else was probably there. SO, if we take the way things OUGHT to play out, the VF-1 (as may be seen in Macross Zero) will probably be up to snuff with what the Zero is packing.

If you take the stats of the VF-1 as established in the early 1980s and the stats of the VF-0, established after the new millenium, of course the VF-1 is gonna seem inferior. Technology on modern fighters has increased a great deal in 20 years

Having said all of that, I think virtually any of those options are possibilities for cameos in the final episodes.... Hikaru seems to be the only minute possibility... at this point he's still at home flying amateur competitions. While entirely possible to go without, it just really wouldn't make any sense for us to NOT see the UNS Macross (in it's near completed form) at some point. It's part of what this is all about. Going on a limb, if we DO see it, it will be interesting to see if they follow their original design, or use the DYRL design that has been used almost exclusively ever since. Even newer videogame portrayals of the UNS Macross in the TV storyline use it. I haven't played the new Sega game so I don't know about that.

  17. Nah, back in the '80s, from the Dark Phoenix Saga up to Muir Isle, that's when it rocked. Blue and Gold teams were OK, but they had lost Chris Claremont by then, and even though he's back doing Xtreme X-Men, I'm still not sure they've found him again. The rest of the X-books are unreadable these days, since they dropped the old formula and have tried to make it "hip" and "postmodern" and as boring as a French film.

    So endeth the rant. :)

Word. From the Secret Wars up until the end of the Muir Island Saga (somewhere around the beginning of the #280s I think) saw the X-men at their absolute best! (not to mention the return of Colossus). It also featured some of the cleanest artwork ever seen for the X-men. I think this is also when we see the most diversity in the team (membership was changing regularly, with people temporarily dropping out and others joining up). Granted: the original team was still called "X-factor", but they still figured largely into most stories (especially the muir island saga.. which crossed between UXM and XF). I definately think this is where the most depth and character comes out

after about UXM#330 or so, things really start going downhill. The Omega-Red Saga in the early "X-men" issues was the last good story they had... in my opinion. They put things in the hands of real hosers I think. Younger readers may better enjoy what's out there now, but not me. I guess I'm just getting old.

  18. Colossus died somewhere around the #390s in UXM (the ORIGINAL storyline.... not the offshoots)

After loosing his brother and sister to the legacy virus, it was discovered that a cure could be made, but it would require the sacrifice of one mutant. Going behind everyone's back, Colossus made that decision. This was shortly after he returned to the X-men from his brief stay with the alcolytes.

  19. I remember seeing that on Cartoon Network way back in the day (like... in CN's earliest days). Despite the differences in the animation from the comic (I'm a huge collector), I thought it kicked ass...

I hated the early '90s version, because they focused almost solely on blue team (with the exception of storm and Gambit), I mean... Colossus was my favorite one! Shadowcat (kitty) was also noticably absent from that series (Longshot and Dazzler also got no love in that series)

... and "Evolution"??? I'm sorry... Anime just isn't X-men's look. I stoped collection UXM around ish #400. It's just gone in a different direction.

  20. This ridiculous... I was watching movies like "Alien(s)", "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Full Metal Jacket", "Apocalypse Now" and "predator" in my youth.... I was a constant war-gamer when I was little (in fact, I had very few toys that didn't have a combat theme of some sort.) As of right now in my life (I am 24) I have yet to inflict serious bodily harm on ANYONE, much less kill them in cold blood.

These people are so seriously misguided it isn't even funny... These are likely parents who wish they could home-school their kids just to keep outside influences from harming their "babies", and as such... kids don't get to grow up.
