Yeah, I was surprised as well, but I guess this makes the box a little more durable? I really love the dark olive green for the armor parts. My current set up is a bit full though so I need to figure out what I want to switch out...

Well, I wanted one for the collection because I've learned if you don't get the DX releases when available, a majority of them tend to increase in price in the aftermarket. The only DXs that really don't seem to go up or be popular are a majority of the Delta releases, some Frontier, and now, apparently Macross 7. To be honest, the only thing that hurts is the fact that it's selling for 10,000 JPY less, but that's just how things are. I will hold off on pre-ordering the new VF-17 since the nightmares themselves don't seem to sell well, so most likely I'll be able to get it at a discount. (You can still find VF-171s on the shelf here even now).

Mine arrived last Thursday but I was out on business so finally got to crack it open this morning. Quick box shots. It's actually all in one box, unlike the VF-1 from a few years ago. I tell you what, something about that OG VF-1 that just does it for me. I already have my original on display so might be time to swap it for this one for display purposes for the next year or so.

I've actually still got mine in the box... Going through a bit of buyers remorse actually for the first time with a DX. I had mine reserved at Joshin here and was happy to be able to use a 5% off bday coupon, but looking at what you get with this (very bare bones) versus the Focker Armored that is the VF-1 plus armor parts for just a couple thousand yen more and I really feel like Bandai randomly price gouged with this release. Then I note that stock is overflowing and you can get it for 30% off from 3rd party resellers already on Amazon JP. While Delta releases tend to sit on the shelf longer than Plus or SDF versions, I am surprised that 7's DX wouldn't be popular... Then again seeing how much HM-R stock is sitting around, I should have known. Regardless, price gouging aside, Wotofa is calling it the best version, and I don't have any of the Yamaoto's, so at least I can say I have one for the collection. Now to wait for the inevitable PreBan release of the sound boosters....

I'm actually pretty excited by this release, can't wait to get it. I feel like there is much more value in this than all the Delta releases.... Thankfully I still had status on Tamashi Web so didn't have to deal with the lottery, but I expect this will be marked high on the after market here in Japan because VF-1s are always a hot commodity.
