  1. What Boeing and Northrop-Grumman are thinking for the USAFs next medium-range bomber. Guess who won't win that one? :)

CG of the Northrop design has been out for a while. I'm trying to figure out still if it's only a two engine design (if they're using 30,000+ lbs thrust turbofans) or if there's four in there somewhere. I can't remember if Boeing's design has been shown before or not.

Either way, it's quite clear how far ahead of its time the B-2 really was. It will probably continue to influence concepts and designs for decades to come.

  2. We got quite a few 360 owners here, but the 360 thread's been dead for a few weeks. Of course the big news a week or so ago was the price drops for all 360 models. One major store here in Omaha, Nebraska Furniture Mart, has the 20 GB Pro version for $250 or $260.

Game wise it's been mainly Geometry Wars 2, EDF 2017, and COD 4 for me. I see I've trounced most everyone I know here from Macross World on Geometry Wars 2... Valkyrie 2036, your score in Pacifism is crazy (89 million) though I did get to 25 million recently and should continue to improve. :) I have all the achievements now except for "Smile".

Once again I'm attending the premiere event for high power model rocketry. I'll be heading down to the Argonia, Kansas area on Wednesday and will be there until next Tuesday.

The big thing for me this time is that I will be attempting my Level 3 Certification flight. Over the last two months I've been converting my trusty old Mobile Rocket Gundam into taking a 75mm (3 inch) AeroTech M1297 motor. I originally did the CAD work for all of this 2 years ago and had actually started on building the new motor mount assembly last July, but I got sidelined by a few things and didn't get back to it until this summer. Unlike many people who do their Level 3 flights with a rocket that has never flown before, my Gundam rocket has the distinction of having eight flights over the last five years so I'm very confident that this will be a good flight. It was 10 years ago this past spring that I aced my Level 2 test and successfully did the qualifying flight so it's taken 10 years to get to this next big step.

I will also be brushing the dust off of my Macross Plus rocket and sending it up on a new L motor that Cesaroni recently put out. It's been two years since the last time I flew it. Below is the project page that Shawn setup for me on Macross World many years ago. All the pictures were taken back in 2000 and 2001 and they detail the first three flights done by one of the most successful rockets I ever built. 7 and 8 years ago... time flies!

A bunch of guys in my club here in southeast Nebraska have also been busy building a 60% scale model of the Pershing II IRBM. It will stand over 20 feet tall and will be powered by an O10,000. The rocket was completed over this weekend.

I will be taking a lot of pictures not only for myself but for one of the rocketry magazines. I will post any pictures and videoes when I can (I'll probably be away from any computers period for about a week).

  4. cool.... what sucks is st.louis county lost its airshow. do to politicals deciding to kill it. so nothing for me this year.... at least i went to af museum though :D

Envious that you got to go to Dayton! Regarding the air show you're talking about, was that an Air Force run event or something that was non military? I know there's an Air Force base south and east from St. Louis... that's where my sister and her family are at right now.

As for more Offutt air show pictures, I got about another 60+ to post online tonight then I'll be ready to do more sharing. :)

  5. Here's a few samples of some of the pictures I took over the weekend... 678 total! Unfortunately I don't think the Osprey showed up (unless it was on static display on Sunday), but they had TWO F-22's from Tyndall AFB there which was pretty cool.

Once I get all my pictures up, I'll share the links to each gallery.

  6. Offutt Air Show this weekend!

It's been 22 years since I attended my first one (the Blue Angels were still flying their A-4's). I have attended every single one since. (There was no show in 1994 and 2006 due to the runway being repaved).

Some of the things I am looking forward to include seeing an F-22 and a CV-22 Osprey in person for the first time. Once again our rocket club will have a display there and depeneding on how construction is going, some of the guys in our group may have their 60% scale Pershing II on display; it will be flying down at LDRS 27 in less then 3 weeks.

I recently posted a whole slew of pictures from the last 5 shows up on Facebook. I will share those soon. Also I am looking into getting on the base to see the arrival of the F-22 so we'll see what happens. :)

  7. Posting this here so as to not create another RT thread that gets closed:

Just got back from Mechacon (Louisiana) and a friend of mine attended the Robotech panel wherin it was announced that Harmony Gold/Toynami are finalizing getting the rights to DYRL merchandising. NOT the movie, but the merchandise rights are apparently going to be shared for US distribution.

How in the HELL did that happen? Is WB going on behalf of HG now? They seemed pretty darn sure of having the merchandising rights, so this looks to not be just a rumor...

Toynami has been doing stuff with the DYRL merchandising for about 4 years now, about 6-7 years with stuff representing the TV series. Maybe what your friend heard had to do with them doing the 1/100th Macross line (which includes Un Spacey and Zentradi mecha from both the TV series and DYRL) and releasing the 1/55th Bandai VF-1's under the Macross label. Probably reiteration of old news.

  8. Actually, I was told that Yamato has been trying to work with Toynami to get them to distribute the Yamato Valks stateside. After all, Yamato cannot officially distribute anything outside of Japan.

Also, I do not recall Toynami negotiating with Bandai back in 2001/2002...Could be wrong...

With the partnership with Tamashii, Toynami now has FULL access to everythng Tamashi produces or distributes. That is why Toynami offered the Aoshima Alphas and Megahouse cyclones.

It is only a matter of time that Toynami will bring in all the Macross goodies they can. Think about it... Toynami can bring in Valks and offer them whole stateside. No worries about R&D...Just moving stock...I'm betting the figures will retail for less than what one can get a Yamato Valkyrie from overseas.

It's been 6 or 7 years now so my memory might be a little fuzzy. :) I'm pretty sure you shared with me back then about Toynami trying to pursue a deal with Yamato. As for Bandai, maybe it was Harmony Gold that was trying to deal directly with them. Again it's been a while so my memory's not perfect and I've had a number of people that I've gotten "insider" Macross/Robotech info through out the years.

But regardless, it's pretty sweet that not only more a lot more is being done with the 1/55th reissues this time, but the US market gets to partake as well. Not to mention all the other possibilities...

  9. But I still love music, and a game like Rock Band gives people like me a way to interact and connect with music in a meaningful way.

I'm sure playing a real guitar is very rewarding; more so, in fact, than playing a video game. And if you've got the talent for it, then you've really got a gift. But for the rest of us, there's Rock Band/Guitar Hero.

Besides loving the music, these games are very great to have at parties and other gatherings. But it's on my list of things to do to eventually learn how to play an electric guitar.
