"I hate everything about them.  I'M BUYING TWO OF EACH!!!!!"  /s

Jokes aside, I like most everything about them and I am buying 2 of each.  I'm giddy that at 50 years old I'm still able to buy modern Macross Saga bots.  I'm a huge OG 1/55 collector and I can't believe as a community we've been able to keep the Macross Saga alive.  Retail prices aside, as a diehard mecha fan it feels like I'm living my best possible life.  Pinch me!

  2. I'm not familiar with Threezero or their other releases.  Are they known for right-shifting product releases?  These figures appear to have remained unchanged, as far as I can tell, for a LOOOOONG time.  If I'm correct, the delayed release is puzzling.  Someone mentioned way back when that there were rights issues that were holding up the release.  Anyone have any current insight on the matter?

The more I see these "on display"....the less I am impressed by them...

They seem a bit too stocky...

There's a lot that I like about them, honestly.  The panel lines have grown on me a bit which is surprising given that I'm usually not into that embellishment.  If I have a concern, it relates to the width of the chest: I recall seeing an image of the VF-1S in which the chest appeared disproportionately wide relative to the rest of the body.  Still, I'm keeping all of my preorders alive (of course, threezero's preorder terms appear designed to prevent me from getting any sort of refund even if I wanted one).

HLJ re-opens pre-ordering for the Arcadia 1/60 Roy and Hikaru Strike VF-1S (both non-PF), as of this posting:

Can anyone speak to the quality of these?  I swore off Bandai’s HMRs for a number of reasons and these look like those HMRs (or the early 2000’s Yamatos).

  5. And why are they highlighting only Myria on the splash screen?  Don't get me wrong, I love Myria, but there are plenty of other notable females in the series.  I hate having DEI shoved down my throat every where I turn so this isn't a rant about inclusion; this is just an observation that there are plenty of notable women in Robotech that are worthy of being highlighted.

  6. [I don't know where this post should live so I'm posting here.]

What is the story behind "robotech.com?"  Has it been abandoned?  Feels like the owners are holding onto it...just because...  Waaaaaaaaaay back in the day, I used to love swinging by it (and Macross World and Valkyrie Exchange) to get a dopamine hit before diving back into my thesis.  Fast forwarding to the present, it's just really sad to check on robotech.com and see what it's become.

:yahoo:yeah these things are too too small for the money.

Same.  Bought all of the Hi-Metals available at Mandarake for nearly a month.  Finally got around to opening them a couple months later, transformed two of them, and promptly noped out and sold the lot.  Just not my thing, unfortunately.

Any indication of when the VF-1J will be released?

Threezero's response in late December to my request for an update regarding the release of the VF-1J:

We are sorry that there is a delay with the release of ROBO-DOU VF-1J Veritech (Rick Hunter) and the estimated shipping date would be in the 1st quarter of 2024.

    Best Regards,
    Threezero CS”

They wouldn't provide an update until I gave them proof that I had ordered at least one VF-1J.  It was a polite exchange, but I'm not eager to ask them again.  Someone want to volunteer this time?

A while back an eBay seller had this new box on auction with BIN.

The listing stated OVERSIZED and I got a bit excited. So I reached out to the seller to confirm. Lo and behold it was just the regular 1/55 GS-11. Nothing special.

Bummer. I was really hoping it was oversized.

I’ve got half a mind to buy one just to figure out how close the dimensions are to the original.  But I haven’t pulled the trigger because of how disappointed I was back in ‘98 when I bought a Joon’s.

You know that us Canuckle Heads always gets screwed up in the arse @Paco Grande regardless of what we purchase or use (Lego, TFs, 1:12 or 1:6, etc).

I’m not totally going to stop buying Macross related items, or anything else in regards to my other hobbies, but being very selective in what I get. I’ve got too much stuff in storage right now and I’m going to thin out when I get a chance to.

Same here!  [I say that knowing full well that I've got some thinning of my own to do.]

People please be aware of LUNA PARK! Two and a half weeks ago I ordered seven DX Chogokin VF-1's, These where all marked as being in stock on there website! After several correspondence why my package wasn't being sent I was asked to use another store in the future... Yesterday the sent me a tracking number for my shipment, but only one of the seven items ordered is being delivered! I HIGLY SUGGEST NOT TO USE LUNA PARK! this seems to be another Nippon Yassin in the making! WARNING ABOUT USING LUNA PARK!

Yikes!  I ordered the DX Superostrich from them.  Not feeling so good now.  Please update us on final resolution, especially w/r to your refund.

Re: Legs in the nacelles.  Am I the only one envisioning something like having the knee joints, "Z-fold up and out on several right angles", sorta like how the Yamato V2 YF-19 elbows work to position the forearms in fighter mode?    The thighs would stay "in the belly" near the centerline, but with some hinges, you could get the calves "up and out" as needed to tuck away into the engine nacelles, at least somewhat.  (enough to slim down the back end of the plane while keeping the ankles large in battroid mode, I imagine).

You're in good company.  This is exactly what I was thinking when I mentioned "offsetting" the leg in an earlier post.  My concern was/remains how this bit of engineering would affect stability in gerwalk and fighter modes.  I have no doubt this would work at a larger scale.  But at this scale, I don't know.  Maybe it would be viable if we made the Z-joints out of metal and had a detent or pin to lock the knee in both configurations.

Love everything!  The LEGOs are a perfect addition.  I could not be more jealous.  We're in Nashville where home prices are ridiculous.  I can't wait for the market to correct (God willing!) and move into a place that allows for a 2nd home office.  TY for sharing!

I still maintain a small collection of 1/60 Yamato/Arcadia valks on my desk where I get to enjoy them every day. (VF-19S Emerald Force color; VF-17, VF-4 original release, Arcadia YF-19, original Sv-51, VF-11, original VF-0, and Max's VF-1A w/ Super & Strike Parts) Bandai's Worldwide Anniversary Ver. VF-25 is the outlier on my desk, but I love the VF-25, so there you go.

Alright, Imma need to see your desk collection.  I'm 75% travel for work and don't have a home office, unfortunately (house is 1000 sq. ft. and we're living on top of each other as it is).  I'd kill for space enough to display some fidget-fighters.  ...next house?

I read somewhere a long, long time ago that the sculptor of the 1/72 Yamato toys didn’t really care about the line art, or Macross in general. It was a job, not a passion project.

As for incorporating the nacelles into the leg transformation, I don’t think that would be acceptable because that wouldn’t follow the lineart at all. The only engine bits are in the intakes, for the “pre-compressor” fan, and in the nacelle bulges which house the actual engines, and those incorporate into the backpack, not the legs. If any part of them did go into the legs, you wouldn’t have a delimiter mode.

Perhaps the thing to do would be to have the wings fold flat, if they can, and make modifications to the backpack hinges to allow it to fit more closely to the actual battroid body. Or modify the wing hinges so any impediment they have to fold flat will be eliminated.

I appreciate your point: I'm an (amateur) engineering nerd and I *love* when my transforming bots make "structural sense" in both/all modes.  To use the nacelles as storage for the legs in fighter mode hurts the logical side of my brain that knows that that's just not possible.  Furthermore, if the nacelles' only function is to serve as a storage bay, surely the YF-21's designers would have made very different design choices - choices that introduced less turbulence and wind resistance.

If I'm correct this one is before the era of the computer designed toys.

I give those early designers *a lot* of credit for being able to actualize their designs and make things work at these small scales.  Sure, concessions were made here and there, but they were still able to produce some real gems.

No panels removed, it was just a hideous first attempt at the YF-21. But that aside, if you retain the idea of forward-oriented legs from the 1/72 1st edition and transfer it to the Bandai DX, but then allow the legs to bend into the larger nacelle cavity, I see that as a solution to the problem of the currently thicc fighter mode tor the Bandai DX...

Utilizing the space inside the nacelles is an interesting idea.  I'm really looking forward to having the 21 in hand and seeing how one could make that a reality.  This would be a radical redesign, but I can also envision how the nacelles could be part of the legs themselves (and actually fold into the legs to preserve the leg's current silhouette).  That could be a more elegant solution than trying to work around the current design constraints.

That's just how the toy is designed.

That's too bad.  I swore off Yamato when they burst onto the scene (or, burst onto my radar) with the VF-1s in the early 2000s because of their design and material choices.  I bought all of the Yamato Macross Plus valks as well but sold all of my Yamatos on eBay within a few months time.  Fast forward to the last couple of years...I thought I heard good things about the 1/72 YF-21.  I'm a little surprised and disappointed by how inelegant fighter mode looks.

[Funny story.  As I was prepping my VF-11 for shipping, the hip broke as I was transforming it back to battroid mode to repackage and ship in its original box.  The hip bar sheared off during its 2nd transformation!  Thankfully, the buyer said he didn't mind and still wanted it and didn't even ask for a discount.  If anyone here fits that description, I hope the VF-11 brought you a lot of joy.]

Here's a pic of the 1/72 1st edition (bottom). You can see the different leg orientation. Now just have the legs bend at the knee, upward into the nacelles

    anymoon.png

I don't own the Yamato 1/72s.  I'm confused by the image from Any Moon.  Has a panel been removed from the Yamatos allowing us to see the shoulder pad, arm, and internal sliding mechanism just anterior to the vertical stabilizer?  That hurts my eyes.  Burn that 5#!+ with fire.
