Yes! No need to pre-order the TV roy, wait for the DYRL version....:p^_^

My budget cant go that far either..i prefer TV versions so i passed on DYRL...

Lol yup, I still have a friend in Japan that can procure the VF-1S in Japan in November because the TV Version Roy Fokker comes with that special stand.  Given the release pattern of the later VF-1S Hikaru had no stand for the DYRL, it can be assumed the Roy Fokker DYRL wont come with the stand too. I recalled the crazy Preorder war for both the DX YF-19 and the VF-1J, but I was in Japan in Hiroshima and literally found stores flooded with those with no one buying them. Itll be the same in Japan for stores like Yellow Submarine (not the one in Akihabara) to have a good supply of these Valks.  But yeah I would rather get the DYRL version personally and the darker Strike parts on it would look better imo.

  2. Well I myself was one of the unfortunate ones who lost out on the PO war for the Roy Fokker VF-1S...but really we all should know the Movie Edition with the more angled head is coming out for sure. Once that releases too, I really have a feeling there be a lot of folks who will start selling off the TV version...

The issue with creating a lineart accurate YF-21 is one of materials.  The animation clearly shows the YF-21 using a morphing wing, which I always assumed extended to other parts of the Valkyrie as well, the legs and arms in particular.  Short of finding a way to make the legs, and to a lesser extent the arms, morphic, to lay flatter or shrink, any perfect transformation YF-21 will end up having fuselage proportions that do not match the lineart.

Yamato's solution to the foreward fuselage and chest length issue was great, but was a design concession.
Bandai's shortening of the nose and cockpit to give a longer fuselage, and therefore longer legs is another design concession.

I would be perfectly happy with a non-perfect transformation version, with arms and legs that swap in, if it means we get a YF-21 that looks correct in all modes.

Thats what I think too, I do think Bandai has room to extend the nose cone and correct cockpit shape even though it'll be slightly off-scale from the linearts/technical specifications. Its crazy this is a ver.4 so maybe by early next year they will have a ver 5 and 6 ready to display at the WonFest maybe or next Tamashii Nation/Shizuoka Hobby show event.

  4. I have transformed mines finally, but I was quite pleased I had no issues with the parts and movement. I was rather surprised it was put together really well including stiff joints for good posing. Really good attention to detail on the interior parts and interesting joint or moving part designs.

I cannot confirm on if the article author spoke to a Tamashii representative but the last sentence is interesting.

    It reads "YF-21は手足を排除し機動性を上げるハイ・マニューバ・モードもあり、ギミックの再現も期待されるところだ。"

Meaning the reproduction of the Hihg Maneuver mode and the arm/limb purge mode is to be replicated on the toy.

Also says they contain no thrusters or propellant. So yeah they're just missile pods, essentially.

(If they contain no fuel or propellant, shouldn't the F in FAST be dropped?)

Thank you so much both of you guys! I appreciate the info, it was something I really wondered for a while.

I always assumed Omega 1 launched the missiles from the Fast Packs on its arms. :unknw:

The non-FP set-up is loaded with guns.  But really no spots for missiles.

Ahh that does makes sense. Thats right in the OVA it only shot missiles with its fast packs.

  8. Thanks man

See page 31 (midway) and onwards. A video review has been done and posted on the boards (I think) with issues about the ankle/foot assemblies as you read further on.

40k yen is a chunk of change to fork out if you want this version, so do plan accordingly.

Thanks man, ironically I have one sitting next to me (in the box still) at work in my office (with both correct feet). I just wanted to see an in-depth review before I start transforming mines and see areas to watch out for during transformation and comparison reviews with the Yamato SV51 like Anymoon does in his reviews. I guess I'll be patient until other people get theirs fixed with the replacements.

Looks to me like de-limiter mode (assuming the legs/arms drop off) is less aerodynamic than "limiter" mode is.

Delimiter mode is definitely a high drag design, however in aerodynamic world, anything can fly if the engine output is really strong (or crazy high) and control surfaces do work for all axis. In the case of the YF-21, the dual engine with paddle thrust (poor man's thrust vector) is actually really impressive. You can read more about this here on the F18 that had those or the X-31 : https://www.airspacemag.com/flight-today/how-things-work-thrust-vectoring-45338677/

So.... I am in a bit of a pickle.

I found myself liking the Arcadia YF-19 more than the DX Chogokin version, due to the latter's small back heels and large "N.E.T.F.C." text written on the wing. So, I was kind of pondering selling off my DX Chogokin YF-19.

Though, if I do go for the DX Chogokin YF-21, then the obsessive-compulsive completionist in me will feel obligated to keep the DX Chogokin YF-19.

This would make you think I should just sell the DX Chogokin YF-19 and skip the DX Chogokin YF-21. Simple as that.

    BUT...

If it happens to be the case that the DX Chogokin YF-21 is a better-made toy than the Yamato YF-21, well.... then I probably would want to pre-order the DX Chogokin YF-21.... which also leaves me kind of stuck with the aforementioned DX Chogokin YF-19 that I am not completely satisfied with.  *sigh*

Yes, I know... I am pathetic on this regard.

    ARGH!!!!!   What do I do?!?!

Easy! Just have both and both Arcadia and Bandai.

I'd like to see the back of the battroid, maybe see why they moved the engines so close together in fighter mode, maybe it makes more sense in battroid.

Well the line art did show the engines are closer. The yamato one was spaced out more.

My guess is that joint slides in and out of a sleeve for transformation so I don't know that it will be dressed up much more than that.

Yeah thats my observation too, that elbow joint for sure is to slide into the rudder arm pods and pulls out. The limited space in the pods is likely why its designed simple, but if the pods were made slightly larger it can house a bulkier mechanical style joint instead of the basic joint. Well this is all tentative stuff we are looking at with no promises if its final or not.  Still its a good start to really make a rapid prototype with all the paint, tampo markings and all (and transforms too).

What's wrong with them? That looks like a double hinged elbow... would have great articulation.

Well even if the articulation is good, because its a simple design used on most Gundam plastic model kits too, its not aesthetically pleasing. Try compare that joint design with the Bandai DX YF-19's here as you can see if an elbow joint on a "would-be" real mecha should look rather mechanical in form or design. Bandai-DX-YF-19-44.jpg.e52747a083c581fe09d5378aa363f749.jpg

I really don’t like the shortened bellyplates in battroid.

I can understand making them shorter than the 1/60 Yamato’s, but not THAT short.

I looked at the pictures of the battroid skirt and the under fuselage section for those flaps/bellyplates, but noticed the rear section of the plates folds up as the cover for the underside of the jet engine backpack. unfortunately this makes the side skirts appear short unless the fastpack add on can make it look elongated. I hope it gets changed in the final too.

The other part I'm not too happy is the elbow/arm joint being an obvious 3 piece simple double hinge joint that doesnt look "mecha" like.

Indeed. Looking at the pictures closely now, it does look a little bit too fat in the rear for my liking.... The juxtaposition between the sleek fighter and chunky battroid is one of my favorite aspects of the YF-21 and Bandai looks to have sacrificed the fighter ala the V1 1/72 Yamato.

The Bandai DX model we are looking at is thankfully a prototype so things will definitely change. The fuselage cone, cockpit shape, the yellow tail band behind (looking round than tapered) is all things to change I hope.
