A bundle would cost like $350 and a lot of people would balk at such a price tag. It's always possible, but I think more likely Arad's 31 will be regular retail and the armor will be a web exclusive.

    Can't wait to preorder this!

I believe thats whats going to happen....  I just remember many ozmas sold,  and the armor parts in limited numbers sold out in minutes and resell prices skyrocketing.

Plus the arad custom is a "pass" for many,  unless hooked by the armored set. Anyway happy hunting to all

  2. Bandai!  Do it a bundle!  And dont make it a tamashi exclusive, lottery, or whatever great idea you can think of!

We want a bundle mass produced in enough quantities for preorder and general sale, so everyone of us can have his armored vf31 S!!!!!!!!

I actually looked at that VF-171 on Manda that's $340.00 CND upon conversion. Too rich for my blood.. :(  For that price, I could actually get the Draken and the add-ons together as a complete set (which I'm currently leaning towards)..

Just remember, that vf 171 also comes with the armor parts which for me is a better treat than a drakken w missile pods, ghosts and a sword.

Anyway, both are nice valks so any choice here is a good choice.

While my translator-y habits practically qualify me to swear in as an expert witness in the field of gift horse dentistry, I'm not gonna complain about them accidentally indulging in realism.

I will, however, gripe endlessly about the useless and thoroughly unloveable pack of designated heroes they foisted on us.

The crew of the SMS Macross Quarter wasn't... though technically Alto was unknowingly complicit in the whole conspiracy, having sided with the post-coup d'etat government and New UN Forces under its command.  SMS's administration was certainly complicit, and knowingly so.  Of course, they'd already been corruptly manipulating the Frontier fleet government for personal gain, but we're supposed to overlook that part.

No, that's an actual thing.  If you look at the YF-21 fighter mode vs. VF-22 fighter mode in line art, you'll notice the GV-17L gunpods are basically external mounts on the prototype, that become internal ones when the FAST packs are mounted.  The VF-22 sort of absorbed those FAST packs into the airframe, so the gunpods are fully internal like the VF-17's and fire through a special door in the airframe skin.

This debate about good idea / bad idea PMC put me thinking quite a bit.

In my honest opinion the idea of having elite contractors is always very merchandable. Its cool to be rogue, to be independent, to rebel, and shoot then ask questions. Also independent military contractors are not subject to military regulations, so it makes sense that every member had its own custom scheme.

The Frontier PMC main heroes were a nice twist from previous Macross entrances. I guess it allowed the characters to have a deeper identity on the field, vs being a soldier where obeyng commands is to be expected no matter what.

I also enjoyed that they made very clear that the SMS would stand only for the highest bidder... so they getting the big guns before the NUNS made sense.

That gets me into asking how PMC would be a hit in the Macross universe?

Mi only answer is that human colonies have a small population, and are very scarce on military resources. Its a civil colony focused on discovering new planets, not invading or subduing. With the last, military overpower is not a priority, so their numbers are short, and any extra "help" is welcome. Enter the PMC who can easily move from one system to another as they are required, and who are cheaper to hire, than maintain a whole fix war fleet. That would be my only quick explanation for the need and succes for space mercenaries.

For Delta I think you guys covered it pretty much... I would only point out the fact of six singers in PMC.

How about a story where an elite PMC squad must compete vs an elite NUNS squad? a battle of skill, egos, tons of valk action and a singer here and there...

Holy Cow! $510 from NY! So glad I picked mine up shortly after it released. After 2 years the only problem I've had is some cracking by the intake due to the stiffness of the hip joints. I actually just went back in and tightened the joint back up, because the legs got all floppy. Now it's back to being like it was out of the box and I'm happy. This is still my favorite of my collection, and I would definitely pick up additional paint schemes. Especially if they did a Low-Vis grey.

I'd also love to have that Nothung.

Oooh be careful with those cracks. Mine broke exactly at the right intake because of the stress at that particular point. It is strange bandai chose soft plastic for a piece that is that thin and is key to keep the leg attached. I was able to fix it but it was very tricky because in fighter the tolerances are zero. If not aligned properly leg, wing, lower and upper intake will never fit. Carefully Apply a thin  layer of super glue so carcks dont get bigger.

If you did not preorder a Kairos, can you still call yourself a true Macross toy collector?

Yes, ill wait for my supplier to have it physically in stock. Though he charges me a little fee, I prefer it this way because i hate dealing with the mail services, e-stores, etc.

Plus, even when the Kai is super sweet, there are other valks that are more treasured.

I only have the original Yamato 1/60 YF-19, and the Bandai VF-19Adv, and they are worlds apart. I missed the boat on the Arcadia, and will never have one, unless I can get a reasonable deal (i.e. not spending $1000 or more, so probably never).

From the reviews, the Bandai has a similar transformation, similar gimmicks, and is comparable in many respects. The Bandai does some things, though, that really impress me. Many of those things are the ones that people seem to gripe about for being fiddly. I actually appreciate that there are mechanisms that allow more line art accuracy from the toy. I also appreciate that there is more of a perfect transformation to the toy, in that there is almost no parts swapping required for it (save the gerwalk neck cover). It also incorporated something that no other transforming 19 toy has had, which is a waist swivel, granted it's limited, but it's there.

That Bandai could bring that level of detail to the toy at 1/60 makes me really hopeful of a toy with similar detail at the 1/85th scale or so that the HMR range is at. I'm really hoping for a YF-19 and YF-21 release in the HMR's, because that would get me collecting those...

Honestly, this whole thing is very subjective, since I'd put the VF-19Adv as the better overall, considering the detail, articulation, accuracy, and price point.

Detail- The painted on detail is much higher on the Bandai, and is more true to it's representation in its respective anime.

Articulation- The Arcadia lacks a bit in articulation, as I believe the range of motion on some joints is a scooch more in the bandai, and it has a waist. But, I don't know if that's enough to really call it, so I'd say it's a dead heat.

Accuracy- Both have more and less than the other in certain areas so we'll call that even.

Price Point- So I'll break this down into two parts. The original Purchase price for the VF-19Adv was lower than the Arcadia's was. That made the VF-19Adv more accessible, which is major point in its favor. By the time the bandai had released, the arcadia had almost doubled in price. The Arcadia is worth more now, commanding prices of ~$1000 while the bandai is only around ~$500. The Arcadia was definitely the better investment.

Both are very nice. I guess I will be at peace when i get both... or the three!!

I need that yamato for nostalgia purposes xD

  8. I only have the bandai, which is a great valk, lots of clever tweaks, great lines and everything is painted. About the advance pack... the boosters fall so easy that it frustrates me.

I prefer yamato / arcadia over bandai. The yf 19 has a gorgeous wingspan, and is bigger. About its defects i only display my valks in fighter so I dont really mind its defects.

To get a new Valk in the movie? Yeah long shot, however in the next series that is a more likely place. Would be neat to have it listed as a VF-35 (or YF-35) as a node to the series age and just keep it up for future runs.

It looks kind of rushed... but it feels bandai has been influencing macross to design as many new valks as possible  Yf 29, vf 19 advance, yf 30 just to sell, sell, sell.

Maybe we wont have a new valk but a modded vf 31...

Those guys hunger for our money and wallets that im sure they will release something... even a quick repaint.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have a detolf and other display cases but sometimes I like having things out on different shelves and feel like I should be able to enjoy that luxury in my own home. Plus, as mentioned, they've somehow lost parts of toys that were inside glass cases too. I don't know, I guess I'll just make sure certain items are well protected before they come from now on. I'm never home when they are here but I'll ask my wife to reiterate being careful but that doesn't seem to work very well. Yeah, firstworldproblems for sure but man!

Similar story: last year I got home to find that the tip that is right in front of the cockpit of my yf 30 was no longer pointy but flat... and that day my cleanning service were at home.

It was pretty obvious that accidentally they dropped it. I was able to put some epoxy and restore the pointy shape, but the heavy heart of a damaged valk never goes away.

Cleanning service will never be careful with collectibles. Thats a fact.

The only thing that has worked is telling them never clean this area and never get close to it, and then I clean it.

You can use some "fragile" or "do not clean" signs on cleanning days, and remove them after theyre gone.

If after that, they keep breaking stuff then you might consider changing personnel.

Sorry to hear this happened to you cause it sucks. Hope this was the last time you have to go through this.

Initially when the Kai was announced I was extremely hyped to get it, but after seeing how its being released I lost interests in it. Not sure if it just me accepting that I may not get one. If the opportunity presents itself where I can get a Kai, I will buy it.

I find myself more excited for the 31A. :D

That 31a is a sweet piece of lethal machinery.

Im not sure if previous regular variants were so much anticipated.

If you ask me, the A could have been a great squadron commander version.

What does a Blue and Black Valk with a cool logo have to do with a character in a show?  I don't have to attribute any sort of character trait to the design to enjoy it.

Its not related. In that I agree that there is not a right way to choose valks. We just get the ones  we like, whether its show related or just the looks.

My point is more oriented towards Bandai... why must Hayate be so idolized to justify a super exclusive custom??

Or is it that maybe they think demand wont be enough to release it for general sale??

Again, im not judging anyones likes. :)

  13. Idk guys.... besides the Kai being a highly collectable figure... do you really miss it for what hayate represents in macross history??

Most of the time I remember him falling victim of the circumstances, caught in himself, wondering about who knows.

I'll credit his above average skills... but imo he's got to thank Roid's treason for causing Keith's dead. Otherwise he would be Messer 2.0.

I wouldn't go quite that far...

    So, a few points here:

    • They do, in fact, have cities.  We see their capital city of Darwent several times in the series, and one of their main reasons for hating the New UN Government so passionately is that the New UN Spacy did a number on several Windermerean cities during the 2060 war where the Kingdom of the Wind seceded from the New UN Government.  The city of Sparrowhead took quite a beating in a bombing, and Hayate's dad wiped the city of Carlyle right off the planet with a dimensional warhead.

    • You forgot that Windermere IV's Kingdom of the Wind had the backing of the Epsilon Foundation, an interstellar mega-conglomerate that sold them ships, the Sv-262 Draken III fighters developed by its subsidiary Dian Cecht, various other weapons, and also provided the technological aid necessary to reconstruct the Sigur Valens and render their Protoculture ruins workable.

    • Windermere IV may be an economically underdeveloped world with a largely agrarian society, but it's noted as being especially rich in one invaluable rare commodity... fold quartz.  One of the root causes of Windermere's war of secession against the New UN Government was that the government's restrictions on trade in fold quartz (laws that were enacted to prevent the proliferation of dimensional warheads) left the mining of fold quartz in New UN Government control and prevented Windermere from using the immense wealth represented by those caches of fold quartz to get rich quick.  Being that fold quartz is an essential component of inertia store converters and in many other technologies can improve performance over synthetic alternatives (e.g. fold systems), it's a safe bet Windermere IV financed its war by paying Epsilon in fold quartz.  (More or less the equivalent of real-world conflict diamonds, but even more valuable.)

They want to free the Brisingr globular cluster from what they see as human tyranny... since they had serious issues with how humans rode roughshod over their government when they were a New UN Government member world.  They expected (somewhat wrongly, as it turned out) that the other worlds in the cluster would feel the same.  (Macross Delta Gaiden: The Black-Winged White Knight shows this in more detail, almost to the extent of "villain had a point", though it wasn't helped that rational/sane New UN Forces actions intended to prevent Var syndrome from becoming a thing were undertaken under the guise of MASSIVE dickishness on the part of the NUNS garrison, like "accidentally" torching the Eber-hardt family's orchards during exercises.)

Their most elite unit... not their entire army.  We see on numerous occasions that they have plenty of ships, several of which are carriers.  The Aerial Knights we see are basically their top ace's personal unit, like an equivalent of Baron Manfred von Richthofen's so-called "Flying Circus" (Jagdgeschwader 1).

Now THAT, I'll grant you, was monstrously lazy... for Roid's plot to be precisely the same plot as Grace O'Connor's in Macross Frontier was just bad writing.

Strictly speaking, there are actually five custom VFs in the series... the five VF-31 Siegfried units used by Delta Flight.

The Siegfried is an aftermarket modification of the Surya Aerospace VF-31A Kairos by the Xaos Valkyrie Works.  A summary of what modifications go into converting a Kairos into a Siegfried is available here.

Keith's Sv-262Hs Draken III is not a custom machine, but rather is a production command variant like the VF-1S.

Wow! I was much unaware of most about the windermereans. I'll have to rewatch and pay more attention about their background. Thanks for the additional info.

But still I find it difficult to sympathize with their cause and means.

Causing secretly innocents "to VAR" and plan civilian attacks... does not sound very "knightly" or rightgeous.

    Anyway, I'm open to reconsider.

It would be great the movie to deal the conflict fully from the windermere side.

  15. These Windermereans are the result of an extremely lazy effort desingning villains.

They all live in villages but can afford intergalactic war against a colonizing fleet (they get help from protoculture war machines, but still).

They want to free the galaxy from human tyranny by massive killing innocents.

Their army is always the 6 men squad, an old king, a guy with glasses... and a kid. Really!?

After 26 episodes they give us the same ending as frontier... OMG.

If that was not enough, from 6 valks we get just 1 custom and guess what... its pilot gets killed.

Its so sad how they quickly went from cool to "meh" to disappointing.

  16. I think it will be Delta season 2. Lot of things were left incomplete: Freiya was becoming sick, the protoculture ruins arch seems open, who is lady M, the origin of mikumo, what happened to windermere and their thirst of unjustified bloodshed, the suspicious merchant poking both sides, why the nuns bombed windermereans in the first place, why roid suddenly lost it.

Plus bandai has still to launch the vf 31s, vf 31 e, the rest of the aerial knights and the idols toys.

  17. Its a great series. The leap between last gen fighters to the first prototype valk.

Though the story is in many ways vague, it let us to have a little taste of how "old" valks originated, performed, with earth's "physics".

To me the point of zero wanst telling a story, but explaining the origin of the vf's.

Whatever the vf 31 is, it owes itself to the vf0.

  18. Got my 31C yesterday. I have not transformed it, but it feels very nice. Plastic feels HQ, paint apps are remarkable and it feels heavier than previous macross chogokins :). I am so glad I decided to get it. It will be my only Vf 31... I wanted one to keep updated my collection, and her being the grandaughter of Max, made it an easy choice (the rest of the Delta members were so MEEEEH).

    Great toy!!!!!

  19. Heeey! This is my first feed to mw. As a cannon fodder I will proudly get shot time and time again xD.

Regarding the Delta movie... its kinda hard to guess what to expect. If they continue with the story, I hope we get more development on the characters; (specially Mirage... she's  a Jenius!!!!!) And less Hayate Freija.

If its a retelling, I hope the Windermere get more depth than a "bomb exploding at home" they are so cool villains.

Finnally,  I dont want to see any apple-water related topics...
