  1. The AF Armament Museum. Spent plenty of time there also. I didn't realize until one of my last trips there that the P-47 they have on display is also a flyable Thunderbolt. They have to keep drip pans under it. People do not realize the actual size of the Thunderchief until you see one up close to one.

Most of the guys working there are old, I think you could have gotten away with it....LOL. I was stationed at Eglin back in 91-92. That was one of 2 F-111's there on station at the time, got to see her do a high speed flyby for the airshow practice in spring of 91. That bird was screaming when she went by. What was really impressive to see was the GBU-28 hung on an aircraft for testing. That damn thing made the F-111 lean to the side it was mounted on. Nice pics though David.

Go home Zepplin pilot your drunk.........

  2. David where did you take that pic at. The F3H I saw was at the Naval Air museum NAS Pensacola. They have one of the best collections of jet aircraft from the 50's and 60's next to the AF Museum at Wright Patterson. Definitely the Naval Air Museum. My home is 45 mins from there ( the family is there while I work over here). I was always thought the F7U was cool until i saw the one there. Then I saw how kinda awkward looking it was. Did you see the N1K2 they have on display. that one blew my mind especially when I saw the bullet hole patches on it.

My dad was stationed on the Intrepid when it came out of refit in 54-55. He had stacks of pictures form the flight deck of the F2H's and Skyraiders. He actually worked on the gunsights for the aircraft. I was surprised also at how big the F2H was I was also surprised at how small the A6M2 was. The one they have hanging now used to sit on the floor near the the hanging Blue Angels A-4's and you could actually touch it. That was back in 91 though.

  3. That doesn't help the story as we near the end of the series. If we didn't have patience, none of us would be here now. The issue we have is much of what has taken place over these recent episodes could have been spread out into the previous episodes. Instead of feeding this information from episode to episode, the info is dumped on us all at once. As we near the end, the focus should be the ending, not an info dump at the end.

Protoculture were a bunch of dicks. And the universe keeps spinning.

I can think of few other races in sci fi that were far bigger dicks. The PC were arrogant and prideful which was one of the reasons for their eventual demise. But they learned enough to attempt to propagate new species that they probably hoped would turn out better than them. Unfortunately the uncontrolled Zentraedi and SA forces fighting would tarnish that attempt along with the unmarked sealed sites and tech without even so much of a sign such as" don't open or use in the name of that is holy, if you do you will die, everyone around you will die and the galaxy will die".

Zinjo is right though at least they confirmed what most of us susp[ected about Roid. But Berger's and Epsilon's scheme is still unclear. Unfortunately the next episode looks like either another info dump or talk about your feelings episode. I definitely believe what was stated in earlier episode threads is going to happen. They are going to rush the ending due to these backstory episodes being thrown in.

  4. Well I can think of other sci fi races that were far bigger dicks. The PC biggest issue was their pride and arrogance. But they still found value in life and attempted to foster it. In the end they realized this but it was too late at that point. All they could do was propagate new species using their own own genes just to ensure some part of them lived on. Their irresponsibility in marking sealed tech and sites as "dangerous don't open this in the name of all that is holy" doesn't help them definitely. In my book the prize for the biggest dickhead species in sci fi would go to the Halo Forerunners, now they were dicks.

Roid though seems to be falling right in the footsteps of the PC. His idiotic pride and arrogance is going to lead to f'ing up the galaxy in a big way. So maybe they are the inheritors of the PC. Then he has lit the bulb in Bergers mind now. That weasel is plotting something.

The next episode looks like an info dump again or discuss your feelings episode. I definitely feel that the end is going to be rushed if we are looking at 27 episodes.

  5. I think the effective word for those surfaces would be rudderons since the whole surface moves. Those things have got to move that frame pretty quick in either direction considering how big they are,

Dobber, the last I read on them was that the engine development was still lagging, they were looking at 2017 for the first of the new engines being ready. The Indians were getting irritated since they were the primary partners in the endeavor to build it and had already placed an order for them. They are currently using AL-31's like the Sukhoi's are. That might explain why the Indian Air Force just ordered the Block 70 variant of the F-16 also.

  6. I know from interaction in the military with officers (pilots), they will have models like that on their desk. Usually of aircraft they have either flown or greatly admire. Navy officers are the same way but then they will also have ship models or pictures of both historical ships and ships they have served on. As Seto said he may have served for a stint in the Spacy and may have served on one of the SDFN's or holds an admiration for the SDF-1. Either way it is a nice desk ornament.

  7. VF-1

    VF-25

    VF-19

    YF-21/VF22

    VF-0

    SV-52

    VF-11

    YF-29

    VF-27

    VF-31

    VF-171

I like the curves in the newer 5th gen Valks. The VF-1 though is my favorite since it is just a straight forward fighter with a simple design.I never cared for the VF-17 design since it is based on the F-117 and I am not a big fan of its design shape (I know that is how it works as a Stealth aircraft but it is still ugly). They did improve it with the 171 though, which is why it made my list.

Here you go Aurance the VF-0C

  8. When they have hardpoints loaded, how the wings fold in Battroid mode ? As the natural folding direction is downward (= toward the hardpoints)

    (Pic courtesy od Dalong)

When any suspension pylon is loaded on a fighter or attack aircraft the SMS (Stores Management System) acknowledges this. Valkyries do have SMS as part of their delivery system, it is seen if you look at views of the up front control console in screenshots. Anyway along with the SMS system saying "hey there is something loaded there" the Valkyires AI also says "hey there is something on the wing because the SMS is all excited, when I reconfigure to Battroid I will have to limit the fold on the outer wing tip area". More than likely the wings won't fold or will fold very little in the situation where they are using pylons on the hardpoints as Seto pointed out. Modern fighters have systems like this to limit speed brakes from opening too wide on landing and for takeoff flight control positions. They are far simpler and use a combination of weight on wheels indication registering with the flight control computer and/or limit switches.

  9. So what exactly is this then? A book with pretty pictures, info, or both?

It has both the box art and regular paintings from Tenjin Hidetaka, who did most of the mechanical drawings for both Frontier and Delta. I have the Second Sortie book. The pictures are amazing in it.

It doesn't look like anyone else has it yet for pre-order Spanner. I live in Abu Dhabi and I was able to order form Amazon Japan and have the items shipped to my US address. Eventually though regular Amazon will have it available, hopefully for pre-order. They may be just behind the power curve on this one.

  10. No problem, your more than welcome. I think the idea of hitting a target that far out has kind of moved to the back burner in missile development world also. The AIM-120 has exceeded the range of the AIM-7 by over 30 miles now. The operational range for the 120C is over 50 miles and the D is supposed to be at 97, damn near the range of a long range missile.
