  1. Hi, I am long time lurker on these forums, but rarely interject anything to any topic. Thanks for taking the time here.

I haven't paid much attention to the Macross model game since the original Hasegawa kits in the late 90s/early 2000s that I missed the news that they made a 1/48 VF-1 strike kit a couple years back. Anyways, I ordered that kit, the option PE parts, and the weapon pack.

I am also debating on finally picking up a Club M 1/48 VF-1 kit, but am curious as to the amount of work that this kit would present compared to the Hasegawa kit. By amount of work, I realize the level of detail this kit has, which is why I want to build it - that's the point. My question really is around the resin, as in the amount of effort in pinning, etc. this kit would require to hold together. My work with resin kits has been mainly with gunpla-wish kits, so I am use to this kind of stuff, I just want to know what I am getting myself into with this bad boy, to gauge time commitment, parts, etc.

Also I am sure there are many folks that feel that the Club M became irrelevant, to a certain extent, upon the release of the Hasegawa kit. I wanted to get the thoughts of some of you that have experience with both kits and weigh the pros/cons of owning both, owning one, or kit bashing each of them. One of the goofy things too that I love about the Club M is the pilot figure too...like the cherry on top.

Sorry for the meandering topic, but help is appreciated. Regardless of what route I go with, I promise to share pics too! Thanks!

  2. The color is really why I keep going back to the old Yamato releases. I just don't like the blinding white so much.

I'd love to grab a DYRL Max 1S, but only if it matched all my other old Yamato releases, because I don't think I'm going to keep the Arcadia Hikaru and Roy that I already got at the original release.

Yep, this is the main issue I have. I would like to have a full DYRL squad - I am missing the VF-1A Kakizaki Strike to round out the group. If Arcadia did release the full squad, the color difference would necessitate a full re-up on each valk. Not going to do that, especially since I love having both versions of the Hikaru DYRL S/A. I keep the majority in fighter mode when I display them. I guess I'd rather bust out four 1/48 Haesgawa kits then do this all over, but man...that's a lot of work.

  3. Is Arcadia's VF-1 really that much better than Yamato's?

This is my question as well. I just do not see the value proposition in picking up Arcadia's VF-1 vs. the Yammie V2s that I have already. I mean, I guess if you play with your valks more than you keep them posed, or boxed up, I totally get it if Arcadia's is better constructed and holds up to abuse. I don't actually mess with the valks that I have unboxed, so I wouldn't know. Unless Arcadia released something that had near model-like detailing on one of the VF-1's I am in the boat that I don't need it. Honestly, with Arcadia's currently known licenses the only thing that has my attention is the VF-0 reactive armor set, whenever that comes to light.

  4. 10 years ago, maybe even 5 years ago I would have been super excited for an EX-S gundam, but now I'm just not excited by the design anymore.

I don't know....I still have the MG kit to build on this one. I might think about grabbing this b/c you know it will be a beast. Like someone else mentioned, it depends on how much tampo details they throw on there. The Penelope, extra mark ver. came out very nice I thought for an RS. I will be keeping my eyes on this one. Though I am kinda "Sentinel'd out" too, especially considering I have that old Gundam FF Deep Striker from like 10 years back....

  5. Good point on the GFFMC RX-78, I have one and it is a great piece. I couldn't get into the Unicorns because I have more fun painting and building the PG Unicorn (and soon the Banshee), as well as the limited articulation you mentioned. It seems counterintuitive to me that Bandai doesn't go ahead and MB all of the iconic mobile suits. Would love a GP-01, a Zeta (not the variants the original), and of course the RX-93. I mean, make them in any of the series besides Robot Spirits!

  6. I picked up the Barbatos High Res. It s a cool kit for sure. The inner frame is very much Metal Build-ish, though the plastic pieces of the inner frame just don't do it for me. I wish it was painted a different color than this beige-y brown. Also the 'kit' portion of the outer armor is just begging to get repainted. I think that's the struggle I have for this item: I don't know whether to customize it as gunpla or just treat it like a Metal Build. I honestly think I will break down the entire thing and airbrush it the way I want it.

Agree about a Barbatos MB being a good release. I love the Metal Build line, but it's getting a bit stale with all of the Seed releases, which is why I am happy that Exia is re-releasing. With so many other designs from the non-UC gundams I can't help but to think they could be brining more to the table here.

I can't remember exactly when the MB line came out if Bandai sort of announced it only to include Seed and 00 releases. Though that doesn't explain the random Full Metal Panic release does it...?

  7. I picked up my red frame and flight unit from Hobby Search. Love it. They did a great job. The weird thing is at the same time I am planning my PG Red Frame Build. Sort of makes me sad that the flight pack isn't available for the PG Red Frame :(

Did any of you pick up the Robot Spirits Xi Gundam release to complete the Hathaway's Flash double dip with Penelope?

  8. Whoa! haven't posted in a long while, but I use the info here to help snag all of the sweet Gundam figure releases.

Anyways, Metal Build Exia Reissue popped open at Gundamplanet:

    http://www.gundamplanet.com/metal-build-gundam-exia-repair-iii.html

It's a little more than BBTS, but I missed every other opportunity to get this guy. Very frustrating. Quiet release with what appears to be a pretty limited allocation thus far.

Hoping this is an indicator that we may get the Seven Sword 00 re-release.

  9. Pre-ordered...

I get very nostalgic about this valk, just reminds of 1995, the year where we had Mac7 and Gundam Wing...when you put it in that context and the bizarre mecha/big robot scene in that time period, the Fire Valk sort of falls right in the mix.

I bought the original Bandai Fire Valk back in the day and dumped it shortly after release. Didn't even bother with Yamato's releases, but this one just looks like the definitive version of one of the most polarizing designs from SK. Probably not one to pose next to your VF-1 or your YF-19, but maybe if they actually pushed out the entire FB crew...

Ankles aside...I am very happy with the Arcadia YF-19, so I see no reason why this would disappoint, blinged out paint job and all.

  10. I guess this just serves as a bump if anything...I think you get the gist - my copy isn't for "play," so that's what I mean by "sealed," as it might as well be... Thanks for adding this irrelevant comment though, when I thought somebody actually had something to reply to the want! Next time I will be sure to have the complete, on point, textbook definition to appease the OCD peanut gallery!

So maybe for added clarification, "loose" can be described as, previously out on display, or you had it out for transformation, etc, et al....Thanks again everyone.

  11. Hi all,

Looking for a Yammie VF-4G so that I can nerd out FB 2012 style on it. Loose toy is preferable with the sticker/decal sheet. I do not need collector grade MIB here. I have one, but I am keeping it sealed, so this is "for play" only!

    Thanks everyone!

  12. On our podcast this week I asked my buddy who live sin Japan to translate these. He says it is just an interview with a guy who made the custom armor. So not coming out anytime soon.

Yes, wife translated the entire article. Custom build, where the builder is basically taking you through step-by-step on how he created the kit. Nothing official, other than he used an existing super armor pack, which he paint matched for the YF-25.

Merchandizing Merchandizing Merchandizing,The Power of The Schwartz!

Oh yeah totally, Yogurt is milking this one, but I kind of think it is cool if they did an armor add-on for the YF-25 in some shape or form. Its an obscure valk to sort of begin with in the Mac:F series, so its existence, while not necessary from a toy build standpoint, is still pretty freakin' cool.

  13. For reasons unknown, circa 2007, I had a perfectly fine MIB Yamato 1/48 Folker VF-1S and the matching VF-1 separate strike/super part set. I had been out of the collecting for a bit and didn't think it was worth anything, put it in a box marked "Goodwill" while moving to my new house. Needless to say, but somebody got that for like a $20 spot.

Another would be as a young man of 10 (circa 1990), taking all of my gen 1 Transformers and VF-1S chunky, and playing soft toss with them in my back yard with my brand new aluminum Louisville Slugger bat. Needless to say that my Dad was pissed when the lawn mower ground up a Flintlock arm or a VF booster pack. Got grounded as a result too...damn Louisville Slugger...

  14. I don't know, agreed that the blue looks 'nice,' and understand that manufacturers take some liberty in how they will render the toy, and agree 100% that the pilot is pretty much a lame ass...I guess it is so off from the source that can your really call it the de facto base model, and not a separate color variant? Maybe that's the part that sticks out so much. Will say that my YF-19 from Arcadia did not disappoint, and I do not expect this release to either. Overall the build looks like it is shaping up to be really decent. Maybe a bit less BRIGHT ASS BLUE would be nice is all..to each their own I guess.

  15. I may be off here, but isn't Macross the Ride sponsored by Hasegawa, and wouldn't that make it essentially improbable for the pally part set to come out for the DX YF-25? I hope I am wrong on this and this actually comes to light. Well, guess Bandai also sponsors the series and Shoji provides editorial supervision....hmmm
