    Another Macross Rewatch

    I finished my rewatach a few weeks ago. I loved the series, especially episode 27. The movie I thought had some great moments but as a whole I definitely liked it less than the series.

    And then for some reason Flashback 2012 was my favorite. I don't know why. I can't even explain it. It's so incredibly sad/bittersweet. It seems so hopeful but so depressing at the same time. Not cause "they get lost and never heard from again"....I'd have never known that without wikipedia. It's just so sad cause it's OVER. They are flying off into the sunset and we don't get any more stories, and it's maddening cause they're on the Megaroad! Hikaru has a badass new Valkyrie! Misa is a Captain! I want MORE!! But then...it's just over. I can't help but feel that same longing/sadness/nostalgia that Minmay is feeling.

    I did find it confusing though...which scenes with Minmay were real, daydreams, memories? I had no idea. And also, isn't 2012 when the series ends? Why do they all look like 10 or more years older? When did the concert take place...and how long after is she walking through the empty stadium? First time I saw it I felt like she was re-visiting the stadium years later...but it's the next day? I don't know.

    Despite the confusion, and the fact that there's only a few minutes of new footage...I love Flashback 2012. No Macross viewing is complete without it.

    And after having been to his lectures and spent a bunch of time recently getting a personal tour of his exhibit with the man himself, after which we discussed stealth in Valkyrie design, I think I have as much of a grasp on his design philosophy as anyone else.

    And I give the man the respect he is due by sticking the the facts and what he says without resorting to 'fan-wank.'

    I take the time and effort I do to report these facts so that fan-wank isn't necessary.

    At least ask the man before resorting to such.

    As I said, there was absolutely NOTHING in his language, nuance or context that would lead one to speculate like that.

    If you insist on doing so regarding news I translate and report then what's the use in me doing it at all?

    I might as well just stop providing information for the fans here altogether.

    Hey Tochiro, is it confirmed the 05 BD release got english translations?

    So, to recap (since some people obviously havent been listening to SpeakerPODcast :-p)

    -First round of auditions is over. Shortlisted applicants have been notified.

    -Second round of auditions is (from memory) April 26.

    -I said about two months back (and I forget whether it was in a forum or on the facebook group) that the earliest I expected any news come out would be APRIL 4.

    This is because theres a Macross talkshow on that date.

    Having said that, I'm not expecting much in the way of news because industry scuttlebut is that the show is still VERY EARLY in development.

    We shall see this weekend I guess, but Im not holding my breath.

    For me it was in the mid 90´s...I was in my early 20´s and being a former Robotech fan it caught my attention a movie (OVAS) called Macross Plus.

    The same concept (transformable fighters) made me investigate a little more about Macross and realize what it was and its relationship with Robotech.

    The guy that owned the Macross Plus video tapes (VHS) told us about having a couple of additional movies and invited us to watch so that was the first time I watched DYRL? and FB2012. I was really impressed by both especially by DYRL?.

    So far I´m a big DYRL? fan and I just purchased the BD Hybrid set for the 30th anniversary. Altough a little late in the party and having paid more than US$300 I dont regret it. Honestly I dont think the BD quality is the best and I knew everything was in japanese; still I have a VHS and DVD versión (both fansubed) but wanted the printed material and the extras that otherwise it could be difficult (or imposible) to get.

    If a new factory subed versión is released it is strongly possible I´ll be buying it again.

    The question is about the manufacter, the expected product´s quality, etc.

    As a huge fan of DYRL? I just decided to buy a valk related to it and this VF-1S w/strike pack looks awesome. By the moment I am not planning to start a valk collection and I dont care if it´s 1/48, 1/60 or 1/100 just want something that has good quality and that will look cool on my desk.

    Yes...of course. The parallel world explanation is merely a device to shrug off inconsistencies between the shows. It's Macross's Grand Unified Theory!

    However, the three main concepts of Macross will never change and can be expected to be played out in each animated series, including the next one. Thanks for posting the vid.
