In the PS2 game, you have to fly the VE-1 around a couple of way points while you are intermittently attacked by Zentradi. The VE-1 in the game is armed with a sawed off Gunpod (that's basically what it looks like) and the best way to defend yourself is in Battroid mode. Even though a VE-1 is not normally armed I imagine it would be better to caught with a Battroid form for close combat than to just be an airplane. Also, the VE-1 could be used to gather data from within derelict spaceships (you get to explore a Zentradi ship in the PS2 game). The VE-1 appears to be a superior choice over the VEFR-1 which has sensor in place of hands and could no conceivably defend itself if forced to do so. Oddly enough the VEFR-1 is based on the VF-1D, much like the VE-1 and VT-1 share the same body type.

Right. Limited resources. Was this before or after they they started building transforming robot jets? The VT-1 original purpose was to recreate Hikaru and Minmei's flight in the VF-1D but with an added sense of danger because no Hikaru couldn't fight back. Canon wise, the VT-1 may be a new design created after Space War One or whatever. There are civilian customized VT-1Cs in Macross Dynamite 7 so they are still be built in the time of 2040. Honestly, if you really want answers to some of your questions maybe you need to learn Japanese in order to read some of the accompanying notes in the Design Works book and possibly the DYRL Gold Book. I'm sure there is some information in there. Right now, I have no answers for your questions and speculation isn't going to help the situation.

Yes because the idea of a dedicated Valkyrie trainer is totally out of line.

" NP-AU-T1 arm units with no micro-missiles." - Why carry the arm units at all?
Give the pilot a feel of how the machine handles with the arm units attached?
-
Well, the Compendium only states that the VT-1 is the two-seat trainer version of a VF-1. The head is said to contain "Head-mounted radar attenna which folds for atmospheric flights and wingtip detection system (VT-1)."

See the section on avionics.

The only thing I can come up with is that they're fatter and thus need to be angle-mounted for clearance. They'd rub on the dorsal of the Valk if they were flat I think...
They are a lot larger than most model depict and could not be mounted in a normal fashion. See Here.

The compendium lists that when the VT-1 carries the Arm packs they have no micro-missiles equipped. The VT-1 seen in DYRL did not have the arm packs. A VT-1 could most likely be armed. Oddly enough the PS2 game gives the VT-1 micro-missile packs but no Gunpod. The VF-1D is also used as the Tutorial machine in the PS2 game. A VT-1 is probably capable of carrying a Gunpod as it does have hands.

They go all the way to the tip when they scissor down and don't change size.
So it's a more realistic design, but not a more ACCURATE design.
I misspoke. The model in the Macross game has the wing descend to the same area near the nose cone, but the model is made without the burly features of the old lineart.
One thing they use in the game is to use the GERWALK joint to allow it to bend a little better. Also the model seems to have a Hasegawa Battroid style chest joint.
This resin kit also uses the GERWALK joints for greater mobility although the leg intakes are too blocky and lack joints of their own. I imagine that if all the joints were put into a 3D model then many of these problems may be eliminated.

Actually, the wings do not change size in the Macross PS2 game. In fact, they go all the way down to the tip of the nose much like the animation model.

It appears to be a Zentradi ship as drawn with the wings from Harlock's Arcadia.

Roadbots look totally sweet. Who cares if some are 1:18 scale?

Hey, looks like Western Design values have screwed up Transformers! What do the fans think?
"Oh great Matrix...
We need your help, My dream movie is being destroyed by the Powers That Be. They have given us Flames, Gorilla-Bots, Robot's with no face or mouth. Robots with Spindly Chicken Legs, Long Arms. There is a Blackout and Barricade?? Toy companies are trying to throw there new toys in our face. We have been LIED to. We were promised a G1 movie which was a farce.
This is our Darkest Hour....help..."

These are awesome. They're actually making them look like aliens! The Decepticons are friggen monsters! Sweet.

Two seaters with heatshields can't be impossible. This tiny VF-1D kit can do it.

Thanks guys. You really helped call a bullshitter on his bullshit.

No numbers = no proof = SHOVE IT! I don't want your speculation poo. There are no numbers - this is judged from what japanese people say, and the fact Takara seem to flog more stuff from the US creation and US fiction than they do of their own japanese creations. That is correct - all of the 1984-1985 bots were from various japanese toylines, and the sheer majority of the non-Takara toys were never released in Japan. I believe only Shockwave was released out of the Bandai (or whomever) toys. And it was Toyco who created Shockwave, Omega Supreme, and Skylynx. Only the Takatoku toys were not released in Japan. Not that it matters since they were never in the show.
Like I said, while the concept of sentient living robots aren't foriegn to Japanese fiction, Transformers were different from the norm because of their western values and their western personalities. And of course the western presentation of the series.Exactly what are these western values you keep talking about? Are you talking about the stupid Saturday Morning cartoon model of TV shows? They dubbed out all the western dialogue and changed the characters to reflect a more Japanese style show. The only thing they couldn't dub out would be the crappy animation and poor plots. Rattrap and Bumblebee became the cute characters, Convoy is more intense than Optimus, etc. All of Scramble City is pretty indicative of what Japan did to Transformers.
Go look at Headmasters, or Masterforce. Generic japanese kids series where woman are put in their place (NO, Arcee! You cannot come with me! You must stay behind and be the Cybertron Office Lady!!), a largely increased human participation (to the point of being critical to the good guys sucess) and bad asian humour. You mean like how Arcee was a useless token female who took care of Daniel all the time? Or wait, that was in season 3! Doh!
Even predominantly japanese series like Armada, Energon and Cybertron are completely different to camp comedy series like BW 2, Neo and Car Robots. This has nothing to do with the popular shows of the time being Zoids, Hikarian, Nadesco, Golden Brave Goldran, the Eldoran shows, Kabutack... THE 90's WERE A CAMPY DECADE FOR JAPANESE ROBOTS! Dubbed Beast Wars is campy. The Japanese Ninja Turtles show was campy. Do I have to go on?
Man, you are totally insensitive.

I can't believe I had to ask you for souces. Why didn't you do this in the first place? Can I see some numbers on the first bit? I'd like to judge for myself.

Well, the VT-1 airframe and FAST packs do have additional fuel and verniers. The VT-1 could an advanced space training vehicle designed to give the instructor more control over the craft in case of emergencies.
