  1. I'm surprised to see my Resourcer unit lasting this long.

Even more surprised to see this mod still alive. I thought it was long dead!

Man, seeing my old concepts on Moddb makes me appreciate how much I've grown as an artist over the past few years. Not sure how I'd have handled those same ships today (the resourcer fleet for the Melts and Zjents) like I did before.

As to race limits... I didn't think Homeworld 2 had any. It was my impression that there wasn't, since we have modders over on Relic who are stuffing in the original races (Even the P races- one-shot forces you fight in the Homeworld 1 campaign) into the game with full fleet lineups.

Keep us posted over on the Relic fourms. I'd like to know when this is finished.

  2. But Alex Seropian said in an interview that the Master Chief and the protagonist from Marathon are the same person.

Yeah, the player of the game.

Because when it comes down to it, we don't see the faces of either the Master Chief or the cyborg. Barring the description in the books, the Cyborg/MC could be anybody, including you.

Which is why they are the same person.

  3. OMFG

The first of the four Evangelion movie remakes, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone, opened Saturday, and it featured a "next episode preview" for the 2008 sequel with more redesigned EVA units and a previously unanimated female character. Specifically, the first EVA units will have a new backpack attachment for an aerial drop sequence (analogous to the scene in episode 9 of the series), the EVA-04 unit is hinted to appear for the first time in animation, a new mono-eyed EVA-05 design will appear, and the EVA-06 will feature a completely new design as well. The new character is an eyeglasses-wearing, brunette girl. The preview's narrator, Kotono Mitsuishi as the character Misato Katsuragi, promised more fan "service-service" in the second movie. (Evangelion: 1.0 had partial nudity.)

The Evangelion: 1.0 movie played to standing-room-only audiences in Tokyo-area theaters from morning to evening. The movie's pamphlet included a notice that Studio Khara (director Hideaki Anno's new company whose first work is this movie) is "accepting applications for staffers" to work on the second movie. A full review of Evangelion: 1.0 will be posted.

WTF..... some new mono-eyed gundams ala EVA00 and what nots....omg...is Gainax going to shove more merchandise down our throats?

And the new girl....previously unanimated....what does that mean? Can it be Mana from Girlfriend of Steel? Hmmmm.

Mana does have red hair, but not glasses.

And seeing Trident would rock. Much better than the JetAlone prototype (then again, seeing JA' animated would also be cool.)

Hearing about the "new" Evas 4-6 makes me think that in this continuity of events, the MP series was not put into production and units 6, 7, and 8 became actual eva units instead of being scrapped for spare parts to send to the primary 3.

So, without the MP evas, this means SEELE's plan for the third impact won't rely on them, and might be orchistrated in another way. That, or Asuka won't have very serious opposition when the world ends.

  4. Didn't a certain american company attempt this when porting it over to the states?

Besides, Macross is the only show that I know of that treats music the way it does (As a psychological weapon, and as a source of spiritual energy). They go sorta overboard in M7 (Musical weapons!), but the concept was novel in the original Macross.

Remove that, and you take out 1/3rd of Macross. Transformers and love triangles are found elsewhere (Orguss, Mospedia..)

  5. So other than the new logo designs and re-takes on the Evangelions, how do you think the Rebuild will differ from V1.0?

They say they'll be adding a new character... I wonder just how much 'new' they'll be installing between the angel battles. There's already one difference- Shamshel (the fourth), disappears rather than 'dies'. So the whole scene of examining the angel is probably out (and Shinji observing his father's burned hands will be re-located/rehashed).

  6. It's interesting to see 3D animation applied when the animators deliberately attempt to make it a cartoon.

The city transformations were brilliant- but I thought the diamond fortress' flight over the lake was the most impressive display of 3D action.

Also seems that they're reviewing the entire series up to the sniper attack. I wonder if what most of what we saw was a flashback sequence at the beginning of the movie... or if they really are starting all over.

  7. Does the comic explain why the cube created beings that were inherently evil? (i.e.:the experiment room, Hummer, etc.) because that to me seemed like the only real plot hole. They discuss how life is born from the cube, yet the objects brought to life by the cube in the film were all inherently evil as opposed to being neutral, kind of doesn't make sense how good (autobots, cybertron, etc.) can be born from the object.

They weren't inherently evil, they were feral. What the cube did essentially is create wild beasts out of human technology.

How Megatron could have used the cube to make an army, then, is an interesting proposition. An entire force of berserkers unleashed upon unsuspecting enemies?

  8. I take back my saying it would suck, I went and watched it since a lot of people said it actually turned out good, and I had a good time.

I can rip the hell out of a lot of stuff in the movie, but it was mostly fun. Although some of the "humorous" scenes had me cringing in my seat.

Same here, actually. I thought the antics around the house could have been replaced with more transformer action... but they did make me laugh :)

I was thinking to myself as I saw that particular sequence, "Well, they brought over the goof from G1, too..."

  9. My girlfriend and I saw it the other day.

It was a cute movie... wouldn't say it was the best I've seen over the summer or the best Pixar movie I've seen (Shrek 3 for this summer, Transformers for overall).

Good for laughs, but I didn't see it (personally) entertaining enough to buy someday.

  10. His plans? "A very cool idea on how to intro the Dinobots and Constructicons. How cool would that movie be?"

With a premise like this, am I foolish in thinking that we'll see a lot more robot action than in the first?

Big change from "a boy and his car".

  11. I didn't feel like my childhood was raped.... If anything I felt this was a new take on the popular franchise, much like Armada was a take on G1. In the end it's just one movie with it's own toyline, standing beside many series and many toy lines.

As for the design well... one of my best friends said it was an interesting take considering the Cybertronians were alien robots. I think they conveyed Alien pretty clearly in the movie.

And once again, I think the next installment will really be treating the TFs as major characters, rather than secondary characters to Sam and the other humans. The franchise has taken off, everyone's introduced, and there are many questions to be answered.

  12. Yeah, I wonder what happened to the F-16s we see scramble... and then disappear.

I think it's safe to say that the next transformers movie will have a bigger focus on the transformers, rather than a transformer event through human eyes. This was just establishing the birth of a new TF line and essentially went through the introductions of who everyone was and what they were doing on earth, and the connection with humanity. 2 will probably have megatron come back, more formers come to earth, and probably discuss more about this universe of TF. After all, outside the comics, we don't know what cybertron is like. Will destruction of the allspark sign the death of cybernetic life? Who made the allspark? These are just questions that'll be raised in TF2- and questions that are best answered with significant TF involvement.

  13. Saw it twice, will probably want to see it again. Best movie of the movies I've seen this summer.

Loved the action, but wish Starscream had more of a role in the plot. Seems that most of the 'cons took backseat to the plot while everything happened around them. The only one who did anything was frenzy, really.

Then again with two more movies on the way, I suppose we can expect more perspective from the TF's POV in future installments.

  14. If you look at it, both American Evangelions suffered problems. 03 turned out to be the host for an evil monster and 04 disappeared in a massive explosion. Meanwhile, Germany and Japan produced "superior quality" evangelions that save the day.

Then again, maybe it's good for once that our country doesn't hog the spotlight in saving the world *Shrugs*.

In the series you just hear a gunshot as he got cornered by SEELE agents. People assume he was dead since Misato found out and started binge drinking in depression.

IIRC, some also believe that it was Misato who killed Kaji. I'm not sure what evidence was presented exactly, but I've heard it existing in several places.

    Mary-suing? Please explain. :D

In as short of a statement as I can make it, a 'Mary-Sue' is a character (often fan created) that is made out to be better than everyone else. Basically they come out of nowhere with a tragic past and everyone instantly likes them without any chance for character development. They also defeat the bad guys with little or no effort, just for the sake of cool-ness. There's an entire wikipedia article on it.

And just because Kaji is an established character doesn't make him impervious to mary-suing. For a Fanfic to be enjoyable, I've found, it's best to stay as close to character as possible (unless you present a very good explanation as to why your Kaji behaves differently than the in-series Kaji.)

For example, there was no evidence in the series that proved Kaji was an exceptional martial artist, or that he knew how to use a super spear of alien origin designed to stop angels (the Lance of Longitus). To have him suddenly belt out mad 1337 skills with no training on an Eva without significant explanation just makes the fic reek of screaming fans with little concern for story.

Man i have to be honest with ya i haven't seen the series in AGES

*shrugs* it might help to review the series once or twice to get a feel for events that happened, or just to hear what the characters were saying. When I've written eva fics in the past, I've always had the DVDs on hand to go back and check sequences of the series that my fiction takes place in and around. Even re-watching the series and listening to what the characters are saying gives a better feel for who they are, and makes them more real in your fic.

But then, it's your fic. I'm just offering what wisdom I have to make your fic appeal to a larger audience.

    lol@EVA-R

I once thought they were "the stuff" since they received an official letter from Gainax and even had some of the American dubbers assist in the audio production. But after reading some criticism and agreeing with it, I've come to think that they have the attention they do because they made an entire website to host their one idea of an Eva continuity.

  15. A very quick teaser was released a few days ago.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=lajKBTO5z-w

Wait, wasn't that the same trailer I saw way back when?

If it isn't, then it must be almost the exact same: text on a black background with the orchistra booting up. Seems to me like everyone's marketing on the hype the (Kanji) name EVANGELION has alone.

As in, "Hey, it has EVANGELION! in the title! It MUST be good!"

Not going to win over new fans this way, unless said fans were also fans of mysterious, ambiguous, advertisements. *Shrugs*

  16. Well, yeah, it wasn't established that Kaji died. We never see a body, and for all we know he could have gone into hiding for a super-secret project. *Shrugs*

Either way, i see "Kaji died, let's clone him" as a rather...rash solution to the problem. The reason why there were three reis was because (presumably) all the clones were kept in the tank and were all created (and aged) at the same time.

So unless they cloned Kaji from the beginning and his soul was somehow artificial (or if one were to somehow download Kaji's spirit into another body), this technically isn't possible without an explaination.

However, this didn't stop the Eva:R people from implying Kaji's soul returned into one of their new characters... that compliment fella.

And please, for the love of all fanfiction, avoid mary-suing. Most people don't like to read those (and I speak from experience, especially in the world of Evangelion).

  17. Well, one can argue weather or not the DYRL? movie produced in Macross 7 is one and the same as the movie produced in 1984.

Then again, having never seen Mac7, I shouldn't be one to talk :D

I see it as a re-take of the same events with subtle differences. There will be a 4th angel attack against Tokyo-3, countered by a sniper-and-shield tactic, just as there will eventually be Asuka, Kaworu, and the other 'major' events in Evangelion (at least until things started getting psychedelic).

But barring these, there are other details that could be different. What if Shinji starts a relationship with Asuka? With Rei? What if Gendo opens up to his son and behaves differently? What if Eva04 doesn't disappear and SEELE's enemies are a little more successful?

Changes lead to more changes and even more changes. All we know that's similar between Eva and Rebuild is that there are Evangelions, Shinji and Rei are there, and so are some of the supporting cast. I think Asuka is waaay to popular to leave out of the rebuild, but other than these things there's still a great latitude for things to act differently. All we need to start at is the attack on the 4th angel, and already the Evas are different.
