  1. If the VF-31A had a scheme with a bit more color, that would be my favorite too.

It would be nice if they have a VF-31 in some camouflage paint scheme, which is both realistic and more colorful.

  2. Has someone already investigated if the gun-pod tonfas of the VF-31 are actually able to hit anything. From my limited knowledge of guns inside fighter jets I always assumed that they are not shooting perfectly straight but rather their line of fire meets somewhere in front of the aircraft to maximize the effect and the pilot is actually able to aim at something. From episode 3 of Macross Delta I assume that:

Messer shot Hayate during his final test with some paint-gun rounds form the gun tonfas since the main weapon of the VF-31 seems to be a beam rifle.

Taken this into account can the VF-31 actually shoot something effectively with the way the gun tonfas are placed alongside the turbines? I assume the gun tonfas need to be canted at an angle to work effectively so that their line of fire meets somewhere in front of the aircraft.

What would be the effective shooting distance of the VF-31 and would that be practicable in real life?

Feel free to correct me on my assumptions.

Maybe the fire control computer onboard the VF-31 automatically adjusts the positioning of the guns based on the distance to the target.

  3. Thinking that the Sv-262's battroid mode could turn out to be reminiscent of the nousjadeul-ger similarly to how the YF-21 (another antagonist valkyrie) was reminiscent of the queadluun-rau. The shape of the Sv-262's legs and feet as well as the mounted cannon point in this direction. Hope we find out soon.

I don't think the YF-21 is exactly an antagonist design as it is a UN Spacy design as well, and also developed into the VF-22. You do have a point on the similarity to the Nousjadeul-Ger, and I myself can't wait to see it in battroid.

  4. I was just looking closely at the pic Nazareno posted. It looks like they placed Rafale's on the stern portion of the deck. I think that is a model of the Charles De Gaulle. It only has 1 cat on the bow.

Actually, it is apparently a stretched, conventionally-powered version of the Charles De Gaulle as it is around 170 m long while the CDG is around 160 m long.

  5. This is true, but if you put silly vs serious on a scale - the scale is tipping way to far on the silly/wtf side.

If suddenly the anime was turned into a live action movie, would it be watchable? I could see SDFM holding its own, same with Plus, but Delta so far? I feel like Delta so far would feel similar to a Michael Bay Transformers movie.

You are right about that regarding the balance between silly and serious. As for where I come from, I watch Macross for the more serious bits (such as the battles) while (mostly) ignoring the silly parts. That is why I have no problem with Delta even though other people who like Macross for the seriousness aspect have a hard time suspending their disbelief.

  6. Renato, to this I would reply everyone needs to go back and rewatch the first four or five episodes. For every instance of Roy being a lecher and "no smoking on the bridge," there are ten instances of deadly seriousness. And yes, I understand that relative to animes x,y, and z from that period it might be more lighthearted, but to pass it off as some idol show with mecha (not you) is grossly inaccurate. They tackle serious issues in Macross, and deal with the high cost of war on a regular basis.

My impression of Macross (in general) is that they mix serious stuff with lighthearted stuff. It is just how the viewer perceives it.

  7. Nazareno2012, I'm not sure what you mean. The info on that site is not canon to Robotech.

Oops, I am mostly ignorant on Robotech, as I got introduced to Macross through Frontier. What I meant in the first sentence is that the VF-X-4 (and presumably the YF-4) use VF-1 parts, then it would have a similar transformation to the VF-1.

  8. Just because you guys keep repeating this isn't going to make it true. The holographic costume changes we've seen before in Macross were natural and realistic. What we see in Delta is straight up magical girl transformation. They are definitely NOT the same.

This is the problem with the first episode of Delta: so much in it is not plausible. It's outside of my ability to suspend my disbelief. It's not grounded at all. Frontier largely avoided this problem (with a few notable exceptions).

The technology used is the same holographic costume change tech used in Frontier, but of course the ones in Delta are simply designed to look like a magical girl transformation. it is just that how it looks does not sit well with some viewers even though in-universe it is possible given the technology.

  9. Well, when you consider that one of the primary concerns for designing a valkyrie, is that they must be able to operate in atmo, and on earth like planets, the jet fighter design aesthetic does actually make sense. As for having a bathroom, well, that's why you relieve yourself before a sortie.

AFAIK if fighter pilots have to relieve themselves in flight, they have relief tubes for that.

  10. Updated version of the Uraga, with hull-mounted beam gun turrets (similar to those on the ARMD carrier), airlock hatches and vernier thrusters:

I am also working on the NUNS stealth cruiser seen in Frontier and Delta.
