I have seen some with Gundams (like the blue "King Joel" plying the Antipolo-Cubao route some time ago), but so far I haven't seen ones with VF's. Maybe it is just a (stylized) F-14 Tomcat?

Actually, even if they have common features (such as transformation) the parts used would be different. For example, in real life while aircraft with similar capability (let's say F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Hornet) have similar technologies used, the subsystems in them would be different due to different requirements by their end users.

Upon closer inspection, Grumman's Concept 10 ATF proposal that I previously wrote looks like a single-tailed VF-11 actually looks more like the YF-10 variable fighter from Astro Plan (a Chinese show that ripped off Macross Frontier):

This is the closest thing in the Macross universe to your idea of a variable ground mecha.

FD Scale is another scale used by Shipbucket artists, and is usually used for drawing vehicles and aircraft at a scale of 22.093px/1m in a similar style as Shipbucket Scale. It originated from an Italian military forum (Forum Defensia), hence the name FD. The micro missiles seen in Macross appear to be inspired by the real-life AGM-124 Wasp, which was also supposed to be fired against targets in swarms and is smaller than contemporary missiles like the AGM-65:

Shipbucket is a style of pixel lineart that is used to represent ships, aircraft, vehicles, etc. at a scale of 2px:1ft (or 1px:0.15m). Some of the drawings are incomplete, such as the variable fighters lacking gunpods and the RVF-25 lacking the ELINT antenna.

Another note is the planet the action takes place on is called Al Shahal, which is Arabic, I think. And from the crowd shots it seems to be a Muslim settled planet. ^^ VERY COOL!

Well as I saw it is more "Arab" than "Muslim" as the surroundings and architecture have a "West Asia" feel compared to other Muslim places.
