1. Yeah, it was a Toonami block show. IIRC, they pulled the series just before the last few episodes aired due to the 9/11 attacks (apparently, CN went ultra-sensitive and pulled anything that could at all touch a raw nerve). They later did re-broadcast the entire series on Adult Swim, but with little success.

Anyway, AS has had some success with their showings of Lupin III (i.e. they haven't cancelled it yet) so there may be some hope for other old-school shows like Macross.

Well, Rupan is on at like... 3:30AM on saturday/sunday night, isnt it? I honestly doubt the show pulls in any kind of numbers at that hour, its porbably just used as filler.

I think Macross/Robotech is FAR more viable an option, however, because a LOT of people who fit AS' demographic used to watch it when they were a kid/teen, or still watch it now.

Zeta would probably do much better than One Year War on AS, but not by much...

2. MO SU PI DA

Mo Supida (Mow spee-da)

Mo Speeder

Mo(tor) Speeder

Cyclones.

It's Mospeeder.

And I really really really really doubt it will be sold as a sequel to MOSPEEDER in Japan.. between all the Rick Hunter/SDF-3 references, as well as the masters and Protoculture.. it'll be a big "WTF" for the Japanese.

Unless they hack the crap out of it...

3. There's actually been a lot of new developments, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it.

http://www.theshadowchronicles.com/info.php?id=un

UN PSA for the 20th Anniversary. Not actual voices, they were placeholders. (I think Scott Bernard = Solid Snake in this? lol, fart him, Greg Snegoff > Solid Snake)

Trailer shown @ Robocon. Notice the glaring error in the trailer that elicited laughter from the audience (and myself).

So far, the show looks VERY promising.. at least more so than Macross Zero did. :/

Perhaps if its sucessful, it'll prod Big West to produce a good Macross sequel... and not utter shite like 7 and Zero.

EDIT: Went back a few pages, so adding comments to previous posts.

- This is NOT being sold as a sequel to Mospeeder in Japan. No way, no how. End of story.

- Shadow Force probably refers to the Shadow Fighters which were introduced at the end of Mospeeder/The New Generation. They were steath variable fighters.

4. How well does a twenty year old show sell to the Adult Swim crowd?

310344

I recall them trying with Mobile Suit Gundam... didn't last more than a few months, IIRC.

310351

IIRC, The original MSG wasn't on Adult Swim, just regular CN blocks of programming, presumably Toonami. I don't know for sure what time/day it was on cause at the time, I didn't have CN. But it was NOT on Adult Swim.

Old shows simply aren't marketable on Adult Swim because of the demographic it caters to. Robotech/Macross is an exception, IMHO.

But One Year War Gundam? Forget it...

5. Gonna toss in my few cents.

- The new animation looks great IMHO, retains a classic look despite the fact that its obviously done on computers (sniff), but its seriously jarring when it cuts from old animation to new. I don't mind the old style animation, since I grew up with it (in fact, I prefer it), but you must admit its very noticeable.

- I hate gackt.

- My recommended viewing order for UC Gundam:

: One Year War Movies I, II, and III (aka the original series.. dont watch the tv series. Its crap)

: 0083 - Stardust Memory (my second favourite series. I dont understand why people dont like it)

: Zeta (my first favourite series :))

: Char's Counterattack (wow)

You can skip Double Zeta, its absolutely worthless, just read a synopsis on the internet. Yes, it improves in the second half, but thats like saying "the stench from that pile of dead bodies over there isnt too bad once you get used to it."

Optional UC viewing:

: 08th MS Team (happens during One Year War)

: 0080 - War in the Pocket (happens right at the end of the One Year War.

- As far as 0083 goes.. wow. I don't get how you guys don't like it. Just doesn't make sense to me. Its easily the best animated next to CCA, great great GREAT storyline (so much backdoor dealings and crap going on on both sides), and it really possesses what I feel to be the true elements of Gundam -- not big robots, but people, their relationships, and POLITICS.

I personally believe that Zeta is MUCH better if you watch 0083 first, cause then you're not saying "WTF" when you are introduced to the Titans -- you know how they came to be, and what their purpose is. (Not gonna give spoilers, but if you were paying attention AT ALL in 0083, it makes perfect sense)

done.

6. Woohoo !

Gundam = 0

Macross = 1

Yay !;)

Too bad that UC Gundam is far and away superior to "Official" Macross now, due to the horror that is M7 and M0.

Even the new Robotech series shows more promise than the last two Macross followups.

AC Gundam still is, and will always be crap, however, especially when compared to Macross.

Now, if only Macross could have someone new tossed into the mix to move away from this "it's the music, stupid!" nonsese...

7. R2 Macross Plus Movie disc has Dolby Pro Logic Japanese audio only. No subtitles of any kind.

I own the disc.

I'm willing to bet from the video, while superior to the Mangle version, is nothing more than a LD rip.

The OVA boxset has Japanese 2.0 and English 5.1. No subtitles.

You can still get the Movie from other sites, just look around...

8. Hey, thanks for the hard work, buddy.

Gonna start ripping the disc tonight and authoring tomorrow morning.

I'll let you know how it comes out. ;)

Sadly I have to do it on DVD5 cus thats all I got.. :(

EDIT: Just finished compiling the image and there's no subtitle stream on the disc. Followed your directions to the letter. Only strange thing I noticed was when I opened the project file in dvdlab, it couldnt find the demuxed audio/video and asked me to locate them, which I did. Then everything else went fine.

But, as I said, no subtitle stream is on the disc.

EDIT #2: I see the problem, it HAS to be on the C:\ drive for whatever stupid reason.

Sucks for me cus my C:\ partition is 20gb and I have no way to fit 7gb of data onto it if I tried. (I have several larger paritions thathave plentyof room)

:/

Any way around this?

EDIT #3: I figured it out while I was in the shower. :p Really simple solution: put the demuxed files anywhere you want, and when dvdlab asks where they are, tell it. Only the files in the .zip archive need to be in the root directory.

Yay!

9. Ok,

So uhh, does anyone want to make me a copy of the DVD and mail it to me? Not the FX version (dont want bootleg crap) and not the R2 (cus I own it), but the re-done disc with the good subtitles.

Or put up the ISO on a server so I can DL it?

I'll make a .torrent of it and seed it as soon as I get my hands on it.

10. Just wanted to add some things.

- I own the R2 Macross Movie disc. DVDDecrypter says the disc clocks in at around 7GB, which would mean its Dual-Layer. I don't much much about the BOOTLEG FX version or whatever you guys are talking about, but if that version is Dual Layer, then in theory it has identical video quality to the R2 disc, provided it was ripped from the R2 and didnt have any extra junk added onto the disc that would take up space.

- Provided this script or whatever syncs up during the actual film and not during other screens (like a Dolby Digital short before the movie, for instance), then it should work fine with the R2 Video.

- I don't see any reason why someone shouldn't make a torrent of a completed ISO of this. There is no difference in paying Valkyrie Exchange (or anyone else) money for what is basically a bootleg copy. The buyer (and the seller) are stealing from Big West/whatever just as much as you would be if you just downloaded it for free and burned it, or paid someone money for the blank media + postage.

Just my two cents.

11. So by this you mean:
Say whatever you want; just remember in the end that your opinion is worthless and I am God.

Yeah, so much for your "expertly veiled" insult.

Me? I was okay with the ending; it just needed more closure.

Wrong.

What I am saying is, don't praise it is just because it's a new Macross series.

I know a lot of people, Macross fans in particular, who went on and on about how great Zero was and how great it was going to be before it even came out... wow, such high praise coming after seeing a 1 minute preview clip with like very little footage of the show.

Then it comes out and its anything BUT great.

I believe much of the hoopla was simply based on the fact that the "Macross" name was attached to it.

Such a poorly done show, but really really awesome aerial combat sequences.

Too bad the story is laughable and an insult to the TV series. (tori no hito? ughh)

Kawamori seems to be doing his best impression of George Lucas when it comes to sequels...

Maybe it's time to let Tomino take a crack at it? lol

12. Wow, so much intelligent debate on what is essentially a lame-ass series with a equally lame-ass ending.

Sorry kids, I just finished watching the last episode of Zero, and man, does it ever suck the big one...

I hate a lot of things about Zero.

- the animation

- the music

- the characters

- the storyline (please, PLEASE stop ruining the story with idiocy like this and M7)

- all of the stupid fantasy/downright ridiculous elements

- introducing characters who are left as loose threads (because its a prequel.. and if they DONT die.. its like wtf. same thing that annoyed me about Gundam 08th Ms Team)

I'll sum up my thoughts with what my friend felt was the most amusing part of my "Macross Zero sucks" chat rant with him:

[19:03] kazuo: oh my gawd

[19:03] kazuo: its getting worse

[19:03] kazuo: now the native peoples have like telekinetic powers or some poo

[19:03] kazuo: and they can pull a great gazoo and float next to you in spirit form and talk to you

[19:03] kazuo: this is queer

[19:03] kazuo: this isnt Macross

[19:03] kazuo: wtf

When, oh when will there be a Macross series worth watching? This is worse than Gundam sequels!!

And, finally:

[19:10] kazuo: oh wait

[19:10] kazuo: WAIT

[19:10] kazuo: possible saving grace

[19:10] kazuo: its a MONSTER

[19:10] kazuo: !!!!11oneone! And I think it has... hannou heiki!!! :D

[19:14] kazuo: yaaay! REACTION WEAPON ASSAULT! +1,000,000,000 pts!!!!

[19:14] kazuo: But that still leaves zero with -84357974305435839709374 points, which means it licks balls.

Say whatever you want. Don't let your fanboy-ish tendencies blind you to the fact that this show is terrible.

I love Macross just as much as the other guy, but this show should be relegated to the trash hea--er, alternate universe that Macross II resides in (and M7 SHOULD reside in)

peace out

13. I also love the SV-51. Super hot design, best Valkyrie next to the YF-19. :D

It just looks SUPER DOPE, and the custom paint is hot... although the head does look like the "Space Pope," lol.

It's a cool fartin' Valkyrie.

Too bad Zero sucked.

14. I would also have to steer you towards Central Anime.

Back in the VHS days, they were the poo.. assuming you could get their tapes.

I believe they are just using Dana Weaver's scripts (and using his subtitle format as well; I could be wrong, I haven't downloaded any of their digisubs to look).

Also, to the poster who said M7 was worth it just for Gamlin & Milia.. well, Gamlin is a putz, and Milia's portrayal in 7 is one of the reasons I dislike the show so much.

Milia the Mayor... ppsh

PS - Why waste money on the bootleg DVDs? The subtitles are very poor, and you can get great quality digisubs from Central off the net.. FOR FREE. If you want DVDs that bad, burn the Central digisubs to DVD. FOR FREE. :)

PPS - The "poo"? LOL nice censor filters.. why not just put [censored]? :p

15. I like Mac7. It's not the greatest show ever, but it's hardly as sucky as some poeple make it out to be.

No, it really does suck that bad.

Really.

Just download it if you truly wish to experience the horror.

The bootleg subtitles are probably atrocious and will make the show even worse...

PS. - The shot is from the episode where they are making a Minmay movie (for TV I think) and they get Mylene to play Minmei, and they're re-enacting some of the stuff from Space War I.

16. Guys,

I TiVo Conan every night. It should be on my TiVo. I'll find it and capture it! Post it up sometime tomorrow. I feel kinda sick right now.

Also someone needs to host it cus my provider will kick my ass if I try and host it..

Pierre = the crap

And to the guy that said Conan isn't any good now.. well, you suck. Sorry.

17. Ugh.

NCS does not sell pirated toys. All of their stuff is imported from Japan.

NCS is selling the 19's for so cheap since they have way too many, and there is no way they will move the stock at full price. They are trying to free up warehouse space for more profitable product that will actually sell (eg. games & related hardware)

The YAMATO Max type Valk they sold was sold so cheaply cus the rudders or whatever broke off. I'm guessing they took it out and messed around with it when they first got it but it broke cus YAMATO stuff is crap. :p:D

Anyway NCS is totally legit, so please stop making assumptions. Thanks.

18. Yea uhh.. put me in the category of "one of the two guys that doesn't like Macross Zero."

The whole series just does nothing for me. Bad character design, poor artwork, bad music (what were they thinking? Where's Yoko Kanno? I'm spoiled), insipid storyline (And what was that about the Alien thingy having the same "DNA" as the ASS-1? ASS-1 = Macross = INORGANIC. I'm guessing bad translation on that one, or I'm just dumb and I misread it).

There's simply nothing compelling or interesting about this story. It just seems like another average animation series released to make money off Macross.

If they had just stuck to making a simple story about the Anti-Unification Wars, it would have been 1,000,000 times better.

The only positive points are the CG battles and the awesome cameo appearance of Chikyuu Shoujyo ARJUNA on the TV (its the program the people on the island were watching)

And you know when thats all you have going for you that something is amiss.

Throw it in the pile with Macross II and 7... sigh.

(oh, and for what its worth, its probably a PROTODEVILN! HAAHAHAHA :p How lame.)
