  1. What do you collect and why?

Yamato Macross DYRL 1/60, Macross books, CDs and games, old A Bathing Ape clothes, old Stussy clothes, old w)taps clothes, old Supreme clothes, old deadstock Air Jordans, vintage Levi`s, Rolex watches, glasses frames, sunglasses, `90s Sony electronics (discmans, walkmans, headphones, amps, video decks), old video game consoles and original games only (screw emulators, PS2, Sega Saturn, PC Engine/Super CD Rom, SNES, Neo Geo AES, PC-FX, Virtual Boy, PSP, PS3), American comic books (Marvel GI Joe, old Punisher, The `Nam - still filling in the gaps since high school) old Japanese streetwear magazines, old Jpop CDs, Soul and Hip Hop CDs, rare Minidiscs, DVDs, Blu-rays, Herman Miller furniture.

Why? I love too much stuff.

Will you stop collecting at some point and why?

No way, I`m a born collector, its part of who I am.

Have your interests in collecting one line over another waned?

Once I decide to collect something I never waver.

Whats the maximum you will spend on one toy?

A toy? Eventually I`d like to get into `80s Bandai Macross and I guess my limit would be around $1K for a single valkyrie.

Whats the maximum you will spend in a year?

Everything I make, plus credit cards

Whats your spouse, partner think about your collection?

    Dont have a partner

How do you like to display your collection?

I hang a lot of my clothes on my walls, display some jordans on my desk sometimes, have my macross collection on a couple of shelves with glass doors to protect from dust.

Do you get more excited about finding your white elephant and then get meloncholy once in your possession?

I have so many grails that I`m never satisfied but each grail that comes into my possession is usually even more beautiful than I had expected and I love it more than life.

  2. Thanks Keith, that`s interesting. I still think this might be useful for hunting down the older HK box sets used on ebay or something though.

Does anyone own a HK bootleg ZZ or V Gundam boxset? I know they were released pre-SARS so how were they?

Fansubs might be an option for me (although finding all the episodes to a show, mastering them to DVD/getting .mkv/.ogm to play back smoothly on my crappy computer does my head in.)

  3. There`s a street called "Macrossan Street" near where I used to live. I spray painted over the "an" on the street sign about 15 years ago. I considered moving into that street but I probably need a job before I can get a house.

  4. As I try to put together a decent and watchable DVD library of my favorite SF/Mecha anime I`m finding it hard to find basic information online regarding the quality of various HK bootleg releases.

I`m primarily interested in the accuracy and grammar of the included English subtitles. I find it impossible to watch some HK bootlegs due to the horrible English subs however some titles just aren`t available English subtitled on DVD otherwise.

Secondarily I`m interested in the picture and sound quality.

If you have a HK bootleg release of any anime show, preferably SF/`80s Robot shows then please briefly rate the readability of the English subs and the picture and sound quality.

I`ll get the thread started with the few bootlegs I already have:

Title: The Legend of the Galactic Heroes 1-76 (3 Boxsets)

    Label: Manga International Inc

Subtitles: Excellent, probably stolen from the fansub

Picture and Sound: perfectly acceptable, very clear in fact.

    Title: Genesis Climber Mospeada TV

Label: Unknown? "2001videostore" in the fine print

Subtitles: Horrible, barely watchable with name changes between episodes, bad grammar and syntax that gave me a headache, drastically reduced my enjoyment of the show.

Picture and Sound: Okay, no big problems

Title: Macross: Do You Remember Love?

    Label: FX

    Subtitles: Very good, fansub source?

Picture and Sound: Incredibly good, like it better than my remastered Japan DVD.

    ...

  5. Hmmm this thread has inspired me to finally start putting together a solid UC Gundam archive on my shelf instead of the random VHS fansubs and downloads I have now.

I was just about to pull the trigger on the US Bandai Entertainment Z Gundam boxes when I read the original opening and ending arrangements have been altered because of rights issues  .

Not sure what to do now, can anyone comment on how bad or good the subtitles and picture quality are on the HK bootleg sets of Z Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Victory Gundam and Turn A Gundam?

  6. Hmmm, thanks very much Keith, some guy on Amazon reviews was bitching that the US release was much more `washed out` than the Japanese one. If it`s not the subtitles, then does anyone know what the BD Live content for the release is?

Also does anyone know if the old US Bandai Entertainment release of Mobile Suit Gundam (TV series) had a subtitled version?

  7. Can anyone comment on the Japanese version of the Gundam Unicorn I Blu-ray? Are the English subtitles on the disc or do I have to connect to BD live every time to see them?

I`d prefer to have the Japanese release as I heard the mastering is better (as usual with jp releases) but I dont like the idea of having to always be connected to the internet to watch my purchase with subs, or for bandai to always have them on their servers or something. I just want a complete product ya know?

  8. LOL my Sony multi standard bought the farm and has been gutted to allow me to fit my new media center pc into it. Old skool looks but with a modern heart. God I love my dremel.

Blu-ray drive exits out of the converted Video slot VFD display is connected into the Motherboard switches work stuff like drives and fans, and the play buttons etc will be working the as they would have done on the original video just as soon as I can get time to do it. :)

    haha, thats f`n cool! B))

  9. Here`s my humble collection I`ve built up very slowly over the last 15 years. To feel generally satisfied ( besides an SDF-1, Super Ostrich, Max-1S and GBP-1S!) I just really need the Gold Book to complete my collection to a `good enough for now, for a poor guy` status). Anyone know how much the Gold Book generally goes for these days? Are prices going up, down or stable?

  10. nice deck! I dreamed of one of those back in the day. A testament to how well those things were built that it still produces great results 22 years later! In fact I still dream of one or similar, I just dragged a box of old VHS out of storage and want to transfer a lot of irreplaceable stuff to hard disk.

  11. I know its not 2D but imho I think the best of that Genre was actually Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Deka for arcade/Saturn, its probably my all time favorite Saturn game. I played a sequal at some arcade in Tokyo a few years ago, it was bizarre, with weird enemies made of transforming lego??
