  1. I originally didn't think I would have room in my collection for more than one YF-29(the Isamu custom) but this Ozma custom sure is tempting. I like the head sculpt and I really like the darker colours in fighter mode combined with the yellow highlights.

I don't care for the blue as shown in the photo but it's not necessarily what the production model will have. I'd like to see a darker and more subdued blue or purple for the canopy. From the screenshots of the fighter mode I've seen, the canopy and crystals seem to have a purple tint that is revealed when light sources hit the surfaces.

    Edit:

skullmilitia and Gakken85 make strong arguments. I must buy the YF-29 Ozma custom now!

  2. As someone who is crossing their fingers for Arcadia to announce that they will be producing the VF-0D in toy form, I've been looking at Macross Zero line art lately with a closer eye. Here are some animated GIFs to show the structural differences between the 0D and 0A. There would be some significant retooling required but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that if Arcadia produces the 0D, the 0A and 0S would be close behind.

  3. Firefox and Newtype78 hold your horses on buying VF-0's! This may be the one you're looking for!

But sadly IF it is the 0D we still need to wait 1 more year (to think that the new year just started T_T )!

I'm in cloud heaven, on 2015 we may be able to see a remake of 0S and 0A  all this holding out from buying the initial ones paid off.

    Consider the horses held!

If Arcadia revisits the Macross Zero designs, I will be putting aside money for the toys without a doubt.

  4. So... first post in six years.

I have gotten on a Macross hitch again and finally watched the orginal series and am rewatching Seven (love the characters, hate Chie Kajiura's singing and the directing)...

I always wanted a toy Valkyrie, but I have to wonder, is this newest incarnation of the VF-1 the Best Valkyrie Toy Ever?

I live in Japan but even I can't seem to find a discount, so is it really worth $170 dollars?

My perspective is that of a person who has just started collecting Macross toys a few months ago so take my view with a grain of salt.

That being said, as an owner of a Yamato version 2 VF-1 toy(specifically the movie version CF VF-1A), I think that the Arcadia VF-1S Hikaru and Roy DYRL colours(and VF-1J in anniversary colours) are nothing short of fantastic works of engineering and art.

I don't own a version 1 1/60 VF toy nor do I own a 1/48 VF toy but from all accounts, the version 2 1/60 scale VF toys are the best representation of the VF-1 design to date.

Are the Arcadia re-issues of Yamato's version 2 VF-1 toys worth roughly $170? There is more than one answer to this question.

A straight up answer is that, I don't think it's worth $170 but if you look around, especially via online retailers or auction sites, you can find discounted pricing.

For a person who has been a collector of Yamato Macross toys and has seen these same toy designs at a MSRP of roughly $100, I don't think that the price tag of $170 is justifiable. The Arcadia VF-1 toys bring a display stand to the package but I don't think it's worth a price hike of nearly double the original MSRP. However, I'm sure there are other factors involved with the higher pricing so it's not just a matter of a $70 display stand.

For a person who has never owned a version 2 Yamato VF-1 toy, I think that the price tag of $170 isn't so bad. Definitely look for a lower price but when I look at the current market of high end action figures, considering the complexity of engineering and design of the version 2 VF-1 toys, $170 for a transforming robot toy of the caliber of a version 2 VF-1 isn't unreasonable.

I think it comes down to what you're willing to do for a toy like this. Yes, you could find cheaper pricing if you hunt around but even if you find a cheaper price online, how much will shipping cost you? Also, how much is your time worth to you? If you can buy an Arcadia VF-1S toy right now locally, that means you can spend your time doing something aside from doing legwork for finding a better deal on a toy purchase.

  5. I have a question for VF-0 toy owners: How does the feel of the toy in hand compare to that of the SV-51?

I ask this because I've read about the floppiness of the SV-51 toy that arises after being handled after a while but I don't find my Nora type, which was purchased already owned, to be that bad at all. Aside from loose ball joints at the hips, which were easily remedied by tightening the screws of the housings around the hip joints, I don't find the toy floppy. It's by no means a rock solid figure but it can hold poses with no problems.

  6. I may be mistaken but I've read on Jenius' review of the Yammie VF-0 toys that there are three "safe" VF-0 production runs.

    1) The CF, ie "Unknown Soldier" version of the VF-0A, which has a no-name pilot figure instead of Shin. The box looks like this:

    r7bq.jpg

    2) The VF-0S Ghost Bundle, which was "the first release officially declared safe".

    3) The VF-0S stand alone re-issue that comes in the same box as the first production run, making it difficult to find out if you've gotten a first or second production run toy.

I am also debating whether or not to buy a VF-0 toy. I've wanted one for quite some time. After acquiring a SV-51 a little while ago, I feel like I need a VF-0 to pair up with it.

I know that even with the "safe" production run units, the toys are reported to be generally sloppy at the joints but at the same time, I don't know if Arcadia will touch the Macross Zero toy designs, either for a re-issue of the Yammie toy designs or take a stab at coming up with new toy designs of their own. So I'm feeling the itch to burn some money and buy a "safe" VF-0 toy.

  7. Since it is my first YF-29, out of curiosity, are the wings only supposed to be collapsed during Battroid mode? Is there a in-universe explanation for the collapse of wings in Fighter/Gewalk modes?

According to the online data for the YF-29, the wings retract/collapse in fighter mode for high speed flight capability.

  8. Ouch!

A collecting guideline I have is to go for cannon fodder/mass production variants primarily. When they're available, I'll buy them over "hero" units. However, with the issues that seem to be reported by CF VF-171 owners(mainly the NUNS triangles crumbling), this is a case where I will probably opt for the Alto EX version instead.

  9. If anyone here has the know how, I'd love to see the top down line art of the YF-19 transposed over the Yamato toy and the Arcadia toy, just to see exactly how much the toys differ from the animation model's dimensions.

As already noted by Vi-RS, the YF-19's animation model doesn't translate exactly into real life, aka three dimensional space. There's "anime magic" at work that creates visual cheating in the animation. There is going to be a necessary compromise in the toy somewhere as far as likeness to the animation model goes.

  10. As someone who has recently started seriously collecting Macross toys, I have a lot of catching up to do. However, the primary focus I have at this time for what I collect is cannon fodder/mass production units. I go into hero units for certain Valks such as Isamu's YF-19.
