  1. Sure, starting with Macross Frontier may not be the best way to introduce someone to the franchise, but continuing it with Robotech is way way WAY worse. spare your son from the suffering! :p

Well, he's finished the series and he was OK with it for the most part. He's thinking of watching M7 now and I can only tell him, 'It's different. You'll see'.

  2. Thanks, MM.

Skimming through the indexes, I was wondering if the term 'Macross' itself should have an entry. As I understand it from watching what I have come across of the franchise, 'Macross' can refer to the island the the ASS-1 originally crashed on and to forms of capital ships or the fleet they are part of. Is that correct? Is there one source definition for 'Macross' as a word?

  3. I was showing my son 'Robotech' on you tube after he just finished watching Macross Frontier (not an advisable way to introduce someone to the franchise).

The first episode had Exedor and Britai assessing the lifeforms on the planet that Zur's ship crashed on and made the remark that they poses '....reflex weaponry and that makes them very dangerous'.

  4. Over at the Starship Modeler forum, someone stated that because of the death of the original voice actor for Hikaru and friend to the creator of Macross, a story line involving his character would not be done.

I can understand that reasoning of the producer.

So maybe a story about the SDF-3?

Also, from that forum, here's a link to PetarB's VF-4 build. Gorgeous!

  5. The engine pods are making me nervous. I spent some time trying to figure out the alignment between the upper and lower parts. I know some of the lower part has to project a bit beyond the upper at the aft end in order for a horseshoe shaped endcap to fit while the lower part of the endcap itself hast to project out a bit to fit with two of the four exhaust duct panels.

 I MISS ALIGNMENT PINS!!

  6. hay , im planing to start the same exact kit, al be watching this post for sure. Maybe we can work together.

I'll be here. I hope to post more tonight.

Mech, I think I'll go with my original idea since cutting it off looks risky (to me). I don't want to worry about getting the two sides sanded flush enough to handle a spacer between them while keeping the correct alignment.

  7. I built the vinyl version a long time ago.  I'd reccomend splitting the cockpit and fuselage parts and inserting a 2 to 3 mm thickness of styrene in there (smaller diameter) and then filling it in.  Minimal sanding and loss of detail.  The slightly longer nose would probably go un-noticed.  That's what I which I had done.  I had the same problem. - MT

Hmmm, good idea. Of course I've already super glued it ( :( ) but it would still probably be worth cutting it apart. I'll post again with those results.

  8. Just starting out. I've glued the nose cone section to the aft fuselage section. I've got to figure out how to deal with a slight difference in height between the two sections. The aft fuselage is a bit below the nose cone section. I'm thinking of trying a thin band styrence wrapped around the upper portion of the aft fuselage and try blending it in with putty and sanding.

  9. Especially pictures of model kits. Tried to find without success...

Edit: Yes I know it's different only in color, but that is exactly what I'd want to know, how to paint it correctly...

I have the DVD of DYL. They do have some subtle differences, most notable is the mono-eye lens.

If someone can tell me how to capture DVD images on the PC I'll send or post the images. Do I need special software to capture images from a DVD?

  10. .........and watching an old clip of Frank Zappa on Crossfire in the eighties. ;-)

I just saw that this past Monday. He was great on that. God, I miss him.
