Well there ya go... classic example number one that a literally translated idiom doesn't work -- you don't know what a bonito is. No, sorry but your inference here is wrong. This means "to talk a good show" or "be all talk". Again, you are incorrect. This is referring to a past you are hiding, not something that "just" happened. There's no way around that one. Has nothing to do with the language? What? As I've show you with the literal translations of idioms, you have no idea how they are used, as I pointed out above. Just goes to prove that they aren't meant to be translated literally. A falsification of reality? Can I get the number of your pot dealer? Words cover up things only if you are lying, the fact that I'm explaining things doesn't mean I'm covering something up. If I say "Hi, my name is Deacon. Nice to meet you." exactly what am I falsifying by saying that? Seriously, I don't know how old you are or anything, but if you can take a even a years worth of the Japanese language, it'll help just a smidgen. And just out of curiosity's sake, since "hajimemashite" is translated as "How do you do?" the literal translation would be: "This is the first time." You think that sounds natural in everyday conversation?

Fine, I'll pose for you another idiom, one that will make no sense whatsoever when translated into English. 「そんな小さな子にコンピュータを買い与えるなんて、猫に小判だ。」 Buying a computer for a small child like that is simply a waste. Literal translation: Buying a computer for a small child like that is like gold coins to a cat. Does that make sense in English? No! Do you understand that the idiom means "like casting pearls before swine"? Hell no! I could give you a whole slew of other idioms (entrusting a cat with a dried bonito, a meowing cat catches no rats, have an injury on one's shin-- which is an idiom for having a shady past), and you can try and figure out what they mean, but you can't. It's just that simple. If you want things translated literally, this is how they would read: 僕は行くつもりだ。 Literal: I TOP NOM go intend COP. (I go intend.) Actual: I intend to go. TOP = topic marker NOM = nominalizer COP = copula The same can be said for contextual situations. If I were to say 僕はうなぎだ。I'm saying (literally) "I am an eel." That's your literal translation. But, given the context of the situation it's more of "I've decided on eel" or "I want to order eel." The translation range is vast an infinite when the sentence is stand alone, but in your situation you want literal, so you'll get "I am an eel." which does not fit into a NORMAL conversation if you are watching something subbed. I suggest rereading what I said earlier since you seemed to have glossed over it. But then if translation is a lie then if I said to you 「お前は相変わらずアホだし」, then it wouldn't mean "And you're just as retarded as always" then would it? So basically if I were to translate something from English into Japanese, the Japanese would be a falsification of the original? This, sir, just blows every argument you have out of the water. All of your points are hereby moot. Quit arguing for something that you clearly have no basis or background in yet claim is correct.

See this is quite interesting... there is no such thing as what you just said. Literal translation is just wrong, plain and simple. I'll give you a perfect example: idioms. In your world of literal translations, Japanese idioms simply would not make sense whatsoever in English when translated literally. I'll cite an example: 「晴れているのに雨が・・・まるで狐の嫁入りだね。」 Raining even though the sun is out... just like a sun shower. 狐の嫁入り literally means "a fox becomes a bride". So your version of a "beautiful literal translation" would be something like... "Raining even though the sun is out... just like a fox becoming a bride." Hah, I think not. I suppose quite a few people are "confused" by the act of translation, so I'll clarify some things based on a recent presentation I did: I highly recommend the book "Mouse or Rat? Translation as Negotiation" by Umberto Eco. That will clear up a lot of your misconceptions.

I agree that music is a major portion of the show, however it isn't the end all. If you are a true fan of the series, then you shouldn't have any problem overlooking this "flaw" knowing what is true. Otherwise, it just goes to show how shallow you are. It's all about what YOU want. Well, you don't always GET what YOU want. Welcome to the real world. Still, it's a cartoon. You all make it sound like something apocalyptic will come about if it isn't changed. You spent a piddly $20 on it. It's hardly worth the fanfare and torches. You do realize that while consumers dictate a corporations direction, they don't have to bend into the will of their demands. People are still going to buy it even if people "try" a boycott. As for DBZ, well, that is FUNI. We won't go there =D! Okay, wait... what? Bandai is "covering" things up now? What are they, the Bush administration? Things change from a con announcement to when something is released. Anime is never perfect. If the song had been in place, someone would have complained about the subbing style, or not having a certain extra, or how something was said in the dub. Seriously, Bandai won't care what you say. It's a quick series that they are releasing. If it were longer, perhaps, but otherwise, your fates are sealed. Bandai won't think twice, it's wishful thinking. And you said it yourself... it's a nuance, which means they won't care about it. Watch, Episode 6 will change on the American release and Japan will be in an uproar. Oh I can see it all happening now...

Judging by what you've said, you should ignore yourself then =). Seriously, you are one of the fans that clearly complains and moans about every little thing with an anime release. They could very well not release the series here at all, then you'd have to resort to the wonderful world of innacurate fansubs and the like. It's a song. It isn't the end of the world. It has no bearing on the actual storyline, so what gives? I saw EVA a while back, but I really couldn't stand the show, so I never bought it. Then again, this was back in the day, so... yeah with ADV still being "young", I'd say they didn't want to cave early on. I doubt they'd do that again now. In addition, one thing that people may have overlooked is that this change was more than likely DICTATED from Japan. It's happened with Gundam, and it sure as heck has happened with other anime. They make changes to the American release thinking that they will do better, when sometimes they don't. Sure, Bandai rereleased Zeta Gundam with corrected subs, but the 10ep DVD pack was planned anyways. They make changes they think are applicable. There is no written rule that says we have to have everything carry over here into America.

Do you SERIOUSLY think they are going to care? The changes are in place and nothing will rectify it. Suck it up as a fan and deal with it. You should be glad that this is even being released. Writing a letter isn't going to make a difference because I can tell you that they will laugh at it and put it in the circular file...

Actually, there are probably very FEW, if any at all, that are released here perfectly. Perfection is impossible. Granted, I don't see the who hubbub about what is going on here, but people need to seriously lay off. You can't have an EXACT copy of something that once was anyways. Times change, ideas change, stories change and people just need to live up to it. Should we all start preparing for the Apocalypse when the Transformers movie comes out? :-/ Zeta Gundam didn't live up to the quality that most people expected, yet according to video scan results (from what I recall having a rep tell me), they still managed to sell over 45,000 copies of the boxed set. I don't think that is too shabby of a number now is it? Please reread what he said. He said that it doesn't matter whether it is a high-quality release or the scum of all releases, there will always be something in it that fans will complain about. Anything released, regardless of what is included or excluded will always be met with criticism. If you people are really that concerned with what is in this and what isn't, then buy the original from Japan and watch in its "untainted" form.

I would appreciate it if you had the decency to credit the person and the team that has taken the time to translate the manga into English for the fans. I noticed that there was a thread on a certain chinese forum, and I decided to see what was in it... little did I know that there would be backstabbing individuals who would pass off other people's work as their own... That's just low, I don't care how you look at it. I've had work taken in the past and passed off, but this was just vile... the fact that you edited out the translation text file that contained notes on the release and missed translations was also very harsh. As a result, you have now forced me to watermark all of the pages when it comes to releasing more. However, if you simply make it clear in your thread post who translated it (the two individuals in the text file), the site that it was from (Zeonic-Corps.net) and a small apology, I will be willing to over look this. It's things like this that make me so angry and want to discontinue translations. If you do not do as I have asked, I will speak with the administration of those forums, and will make sure that the members of the forums there are aware of what you have done. Hiya Gundam fans!! Needless to say I have always been on a quest to obtain Gundam ACE and what not just so I could see what the hell was in it. I never had the chance to travel to some nearby store that sold it, so I found a website online this past week, and I ordered myself one of the last two installments that just came out on October 28th. So! I though I'd start something new each and every month. I'll post scanlations and comments on the plot relative to the story in Gundam ACE! Cool, huh? Well, I'll see how it goes. Gundam ACE December 2004 No. 28 FOLD OUT POSTERS GUNDAM SEED DESTINY THE EDGE GUNDAM SEED DESTINY ASTRAY SEED DESTINY CHASE The beginning of Gundam ACE offers us a nice little packaging of sorts for the newest Gundam show, SEED DESTINY. Following several pages with characters (the standard art that we see in the op), their voice actor listings, and a brief description, we are treated to a story guide (PHASE-01 to PHASE-07) and an interview with two stars of the show. The two actors are Kenichi Suzumura (Shinn Asuka) and Maaya Sakamoto (Lunamaria Hawke). Basically it comments on the series itself and opinions from the seiyuu's and what not. I'll scan it when I have the time. GUNDAM THE ORIGIN SECTION II Gundam the Origin START Gundam the Origin [Page 54] Gundam the Origin [Page 55] Gundam the Origin [Page 98] Gundam the Origin [Page 99] Gundam the Origin [Page 100] This installment takes place right after the death of Zeon Daikun, and throws us right into the mix with the assassination of Saslo Zabi. Dozle escapes the bombing, and as you can see, he's clearly peeved and wants to act. The story goes on, and the public is made to think that the Earth Federation is the main faction behind all of this (Daikun's death) and that Jimba Ral and his family assassinated Saslo. Ultimately, Degwin, Kishiria, and Ramba all make their own moves. The Munzo colony is in complete disarray as citizens riot and set fire to many things. The Daikun family is allowed to leave as per Degwin a la Gihren, Ramba Ral (who has been in hiding) asks Hamon to help his father escape (Hamon is like a BEAUTY in this manga), and as such, Kishiria goes to meet with young Casval. She then handcuffs him! KINKY! =D Although this is an alternative take on the UC era show, we get to see Jimba Ral, and how he's rather paranoid and what not about the recent turn of events. I hope I can backtrack to previous chapters! =D GUNDAM SEED DESTINY ASTRAY Destiny Astray START In this installment, we are introduced to Bernadette Leroux, a coordinator and journalist. Coincidentally, both her and Jess have the opportunity to interview legendary ace Alliance pilot EDWARD HARRELSON. Unfortunately, upon meeting the pilot, they are rather disappointed because he doesn't appear to be "ace pilot" material. As the interview begins to wind down, the base has received word that 3 Raider Gundams are on their way to attack Edward. So, he hops into the Sword Calamity and attacks. Jess, in the Gundam Astray Out Frame, takes some great shots of the action. As such, Bernadette airs her story, and Jess gets a little urked that it wasn't all what he had planned it to be. As the story concludes, we seen an Alliance commander briefing it's three remaining ace pilots, Morgan Chevalier (Moonlight Mad Dog), Jane Houston (White Whale) and Lena Imelia (Sakura Burst) to finish him off. ECOLE DU CIEL Ecole du Ciel START Installment 5 begins in this issue where some of the teamsters are held hostage aboard their ship. They manage to thwart that, and end up in a colony being chased by a Hizack. GUNDAM X UNDER THE MOONLIGHT GUNDAM X START The manga finally starts after first previewing in last months magazine. The Mirage and Rosa Rosa crew faces off in a salvage duel. And... out of some cosmic force at work, they find a Gundam under the ocean... along with another sleeping beauty names Kai who was "hibernating" in the cockpit. Ha! CRAZY! INU GANDAMU!! INU GANDAMU!! ROFLMFAO!! NO COMMENT. It's just wrong... just so very wrong... TURN A GUNDAM SIDESTORY!! WIND OF THE MOON: LORAN'S DAY TURN A GUNDAM START Here her have Loran in his Dianna Counter training days where they are fighing off a spirit or a ghost or something that inhibits people or something. I didn't read it too much, but... yeah... Overall, I am REALLY HAPPY with this magazine, and I hope that I can actually get to scanning and translating it all. The only reprint that they did in English was the Mobile Suit Gundam Trilogy... Edit:: The only reason why I was happy to have read these is because: (1). I don't have the series on VHS anymore (2). I'm not planning on purchasing them (3). It gives me an excuse to get off the computer I mean, the beginning of the 1st book provided a nicer intro to the ASS-1 crash and what not that the series didn't do...
